Bear Crickhowell, hotel in Crickhowell

In Crickhowell, in the Brecon Beacons, The Bear dates back to 1432. Expect a welcoming atmosphere, old world charm and good food. Awarded Inn of the Year 2010 by the Good Pub Guide.

You can’t fault the quality of this family business- excellent food, immaculate kitchen, traditional, clean and comfortable rooms. I wasn’t sure to be honest and I was very pleasantly surprised how good The Bear is, in every respect.

Beautiful, well-appointed room, lovely lounge areas to chill out with a drink, very helpful and friendly staff. The grounds were beautiful , with stunning views overlooking the Usk valley. The pool and sauna area was readily available. Small but adequate. The food was very good, and reasonable.

8 Standard Street by The Bear Hotel Crickhowell, hotel in Crickhowell

Offering a garden and garden view, 8 Standard Street by The Bear Hotel Crickhowell is set in Crickhowell, 25 km from Longtown Castle and 35 km from Clifford Castle.

Lovely little property, very nicely decorated and spotlessly clean. Plenty of space. Loads of towels which is always a bonus. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering but there are numerous places to eat out in the town or local area (Red Indigo Indian restaurant highly recommended!) The town car park is right behind the property and is only £4 a day, free after 6 pm. We left our car there on two out of our three day stay, and set out for our walks from the town. The local information centre has books with recommended routes. Crickhowell itself is very attractive, small but quite busy with a range of cute and quirky shops. We loved Webbs the hardware/kitchenware store, CwCw which sells lovely jewellery and clothes, gifts etc and the independent bookshop which is also great!

it's one of my favourite places in the world! Lovely little town, good parking facilities, great food available wonderful views and plenty to see all around. Love the river Usk and its surrounding area. At least 2 great art galleries. Felin fach Griffin, near Brecon, has great food, so does the restaurant by the cathedral in brecon. manor Hotel in crickhowel has very good food but very slow service!

The room was clean, the whole building very tired & worn , needs a lot of money spent on it ! Naomi was a very helpful lady she offered us a lift to the local pub which was very kind of her , very friendly & helpful ! Unfortunately the lady on the reception desk when we arrived was not so pleasant, kept talking over me which is found very frustrating.

Lovely small, vibrant town with a good atmosphere, plenty of places to eat and drink and small independent shops. Nice local history too with the Crickhowell Bridge and the ruins of the castle in town as well as being surrounded by beautiful countryside.

I booked the Dragon Inn as it came up as the cheapest available property, as I was traveling on my own I was not too concerned about luxury or comfort. The Dragon Inn exceeded all expectations (I had assumed due to the low price it would not be such a lovely place) I was greeted with the warmest of welcomes (even help to park my car!), the room was very warm, comfortable and clean. The food was fantastic, I ate both my evening meals there and the breakfasts set me up perfectly for running in the mountains. Thank you for an excellent stay!

Kestrel Inn is well-sited and overlooks the scenic Cwmdu valley. The Inn and its rooms are clean, warm and comfortable, and the owners are welcoming with much-needed advice on places to visit and things to do. Breakfast was cooked by the owners, which we appreciated greatly, and dinners were found in the historic village of Crickhowell, which is only a 6 minute drive away. The Inn is well-placed to explore Brecon Beacons National Park by car or bicycle, with quiet country lanes starting literally over the road.

Crickhowell is a charming walkable Welsh town, where we needed to stay for one night before collecting our rental narrowboat nearby. As Mom & daughter travelling together, we needed 2 bedrooms. This small home fitted us perfectly, although people with difficulty walking might find the narrow steep stairs up to the bedrooms difficult. It was spotlessly clean and the host quickly and most helpfully answered my many questions both before our arrival and during our stay. Would return without hesitation.

Lovely big old traditional country hotel. We loved the location with gorgeous grounds for a morning stroll after breakfast, yet just outside the cute village of Crickhowell and easy to find with GPS. We loved the cozy yet roomy bar/lounge where we could get tea and drinks and play card games for a long rainy afternoon then move seamlessly to dinner. The rooms were spotless and comfortable if a bit small. Check in and out was seamless. There was a big, delicious traditional English breakfast.

Easy to find Hotel. Quiet location [and within walking distance of Crickhowell]. Ample parking space. Pleasant grounds to wander in. Very comfortable bed; warm room with plenty of storage for luggage etc. Really appreciated the addition of sachets of oat milk and not just plain milk on our tray of room refreshments.. Dinner was really very good with a small but good range of options for every course. All staff that we encountered were attentive, polite, friendly and helpful.

We booked a room with mountain view and we got a lovely view from our window. The bed was very comfortable. The room was clean and well decorated. Our host was very welcoming. Our delicious breakfast was cooked to order. There was also fruit and cereal available. There was a private covid-safe lounge available where we also had breakfast and our evening meal. The hotel was near to Crickhowell, Brecon and Abergavenny which were good places to visit.

The Barn is a very nice cottage, very quiet. There is a big kitchen , on the first floor two bedrooms and a bathroom. Behind the cottage is a small terrace for a nice breakfast in morning sun. In front of the cottage you can enjoy the evening sun. The Barn is located between Crickhowell and Abergavenney. From here it is easy to explore the Brecon Beacons, Wye valley or Usk valley

Location of the hotel is stunning, the views are unforgettable ans the panoramic windows in our room allowed us to enjoy this view any time of the day. And its surrounded by lovely nature, we even saw a baby deer at the car park so be careful when you return back late - you can meet deer near hotel and other wild life animals and birds.

Very helpful hosts. Brilliant location and house. Ideal for us and another family with 4 pre-school children. Lots of space inside (garden smaller than expected but lovely) and quite soundproof. One of the bedrooms had a little extra section that was perfect to fit our son's cot in so he couldn't see our bed!
