Makratela guesthouse is located on the south slope of the Caucasus range, high mountaineous region of Georgia, Tusheti. that's why it is open only three to four months-from June to October. the road is closed during 7 months. Makratela is situated in the Pirikita gorge bordering Chechnja and Dagestan. Dartlo is on the way to main horse track over Atsunta pass which many hikers choose to go through as a challenging and beautiful path from Tusheti to Khevsureti. there are also small several hour walking treks around the village.
