The Spice lodge is the perfect spot in Ella for a couple seeking a little luxury at a very reasonable price. The decor and design of the room would rival any premium European accommodation with a slight Soho house feel to the rooms. The views from the accommodation are beautiful, even during the sporadic rain showers being able to sit out on the under cover terrace was amazing. Set in the jungle with the town or popular walking trails only being 10 mins away, The Spice lodge is a humble and peaceful get away from the madness of central Ella. Irosha and her family were great hosts and always around on site to help. Taking pride in the cleaning and upkeep of the accommodation was also notable and appreciated.

The view was so beautiful and peaceful from the balcony and breakfast was great! Location was perfect because it was in between town and little Adam’s peak/Nine Arch Bridge. The family were very sweet too.

Perfectly located away from the busy Main Street, just at beginning of path to Little Adam’s Peak, and not far from the walk to Nine Arch Bridge. Very relaxing in the tree tops. Beautiful small family-run lodge. Only two rooms. Breakfast delivered to balcony each morning. Comfortable, quiet and clean.

Very warm and lovely welcoming from the whole family including a welcoming drink and some cookies. Location has a great view and is great to walk to the little Adam’s peak and the nine arches bridge. Last 200 meters need to be walked (just tuktuks are able to enter the road) and last meters are several stairs, which was fine for us, but just to take it into account.

An absolutely fabulous little home stay on the edge of the tourist strip. Only 2 rooms but this adds to the ambience. Built into the side of the hill facing south west. You have to leave your transport down the hill and walk up about 40 stone steps but the small amount of exercise is worth it. The property was a small tea plantation and still has tea growing. The view is serene and relaxed and we spent a pleasant afternoon sitting reading and watching squirrels play in the trees. The hosts offered to prepare dinner for us and it was an authentic feast of curries. Absolutely so special. The bathroom has a very quirky shower head and is clean and all you need. The bed is comfortable and even though there is no AC you get more than enough air from the fan. Ten out of ten.

The Spice Lodge was one of our favourite places that we’ve stayed in in Sri Lanka. The staff was so so friendly, helpful and wanted to do everything to make it as comfortable as possible. The breakfast was delicious. The rooms were clean and very spacious. And the view… absolutely perfect and so relaxing!
