Ulaanbaatar is a great location (and one of the only options) to base your Mongolia starting point out of. Having a few nights in the city is all you need, but when traveling to Mongolia, your goal should be to get into the country and tour what makes Mongolia and it's nomadic culture and open landscape so unique. For example, in a 10 day trip to Mongolia, I would only spend 3 days in Ulaanbaatar and the rest with a guide out in the countryside.

It was noisy and very busy with traffic.
It was noisy and very busy with traffic. Footpaths are a walking hazard. Very few people spoke English and weren't very helpful.
I found a delightful vegan cafe that had modified traditional Mongolian food so I ate there a couple of times. The Gandan Monastery precinct was interesting.

Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia.
Ulaanbaatar s a great base for exploring Mongolia. It’s a modern capital but with the added extra that it’s the centre of a nomadic country. The 1930s purge means that there is not a lot of old culture. So if you like temples and castles, go somewhere else. Sukkbataar Square is great to wander around in teh evenings. Families and young people having fun and socialising. The Chinggis Khan museum is excellent.

A city in progress day by day with mixture of old building and modern buildings in harmonization to let you feel both history and development at once time. There are paintings on wall of building on street reflecting either traditional culture, modern art pr commercial advertisement, but all very nice. but traffic is little bit heavy at summit time. There are construction field on street in summer may block the way.
The temperature in summer (in June) is good for travel on day and at night for sleep.
Airport is new and highway is also new and convenient, People are friendly. The city is close to forest, grassland and some sand dunes, landscape are diverse, My only concern is the grassland under great pressure of overgrazing and risk to degradation.

During my recent visit to Ulaanbator, Mongolia, I had the pleasure of staying at Eagle Town Apartment - a unique and authentic accommodation that allowed me to immerse myself in the local culture and lifestyle.
Located on the western front of the city, the apartment offered a truly one-of-a-kind experience that allowed me to get a glimpse of the traditional Mongolian way of life. The apartment was spacious, clean, and well-equipped with all the necessary amenities for a comfortable stay.
What made my experience truly unforgettable, however, was the opportunity to explore the local culture and landscape. I rented a car from my hotel and was amazed by the beauty of the countryside and the warmth of the locals. Despite the language barrier, I felt welcomed and appreciated the helpfulness of the people.
Overall, my stay at Eagle Town Apartment in Ulaanbator was a truly unique and memorable experience. I highly recommend this accommodation to anyone looking to immerse themselves in Mongolian culture and lifestyle. Whether you're a traveler seeking adventure or a cultural enthusiast looking to explore a new way of life, this is the perfect place for you!
It’s hard to say what was the best thing about this property. First, it was perfect for our big family and we all could share the nice spacious dining room for family dinners which we could cook together. Second, the hosts were amazing! They both were super helpful and friendly. They took us to the markets, they drove us to the sights, airports, everywhere! Third, the property is at the city center and it’s a 10 minutes walk from Sukhäbaatar square, it has supermarkets, markets, spas and everything else that you might need around it.
This might be the best hostel in the world. It's not a luxurious accommodation to lazy around Ulan Bator, but it is perfect to meet other travelers and organize spontaneous tours in Mongolia. If you want to avoid paying expensive pre arranged tours, UB Guesthouse is the place to be. They keep updates information of all available tour groups departing the next days, all for very good prices. Bobby is the most helpful person you will ever meet, and she will make sure that your Mongolia trip happens in the best way possible.
Nomado Boutique Hotel caters to the discerning traveler, offering a harmonious blend of opulence and convenience. With its unwavering commitment to providing an exceptional experience, along with its breathtaking views, it stands as an unforgettable destination in Mongolia. Whether you're visiting for business or leisure, this hotel ensures your stay is nothing short of extraordinary <3
Very helpful and responsive staff. They have airport shuttle service and helped me to book a train ticket from UB to Ulan Ude. The location is great too. There’s a bust station in front of the guesthouse where you can take a bus to the train station and it’s 3’ walk to the famous monastery. Short walking distance to central, shopping malls. Good value.
The guesthouse is lovely and Bobby is a great host. Rooms and facilities were kept clean. I only stayed for the last days of my Mongolia trip so don't know about the quality of the tours, but the rates I saw advertised seemed a bit cheaper than what I've seen from other companies.
Hotel in city center, closest to central Sukhbaatar Square. I had a large and quiet, well equipped room with a comfortable bed, fridge, kettle etc. The Puma is well known in Ulaanbaatar, but the atmosphere in the hotel is a bit cold and the charme is a bit from yesterday.
The hotel room was large and clean. Not much noise around. The very friendly staff at the reception helped us getting a taxi and also with other questions. Walking distance to the main square about 20min. Small restaurants and supermarkets close by. Safe neighborhood.
A truly great experience at this hotel. The position was central and great, the staff kind and helpful and the services provided impeccable. The room was huge and full with amenities and great wifi. The buffet breakfast was rich and offered many options.
The staff was very polite and helpful. Besides, they pick up from the airport for free. I arrived at around 04:00 AM, and there were a driver and a kind assistant waiting for me and take to Eagle Town. Nice service!
Very spacious room, the bed n pillow is comfy, good varieties of breakfast, window can be opened with fresh air, and it's good value for money. I stayed the hotel again after travelling the western part of Mongolia.
Good location in the centre of Ulan Bator. Rooms are clean, staff is always helpful and friendly. I have stayed here in previous years. The taxi service from and to the airport is reliable and recomendable.
The hotel is very well located. The staff is very friendly and helpful, they do their really very best that you feel comfortable. The rooms are clean and big enough and the Wifi is okay (for Mongolia).
Generally we liked the kitchen which was available but not usable that time because there was no electricity in the hotel.
Room was tiny but quite okay. Bathrooms were shared but clean and comfy.
Very easy to arrive to the center, clean and friendly staff!! it's the 4th time I'm staying at this hotel and I feel that it's an autectic Mongolian experience! Not the normal turistic hotel :-)
I think this hotel offers a great value for it's price. The room was clean and they have Russian speaking staff that helped me with questions regarding navigation around the city.
