Hosts were very welcoming, and prepared us a delicious dinner and breakfast. The decor was phenomenal, like staying in a palace. Handy location for exploring the Taranaki countryside. Plenty of space to relax and enjoy the room. Loved it!

Experience the romance of the past with a stay in The Helena Suite at The Old Eltham Post Office built in 1905. The freshly renovated 100 sq metre apartment has a King bed, full central heating, a large flatscreen TV, a spa bath and seperate bathroom, ultra fast unlimited wifi and kitchenette with fridge, microwave, toaster and utensils. Being the "Cheese Capital" of NZ we can provide a cheese platter on arrival & breakfast of local Ciabatta bacon & fresh eggs from our backyard hens. NEW......Restaurant meals at The Helena Suite For a set fee we can also provide Restaurant Meals in The Helena Suite. BYO Wine. Contact us for menu. We also have the "Red Room" with a Queen bed quite seperate from the Helena suite which shares the same ensuite.
David & Maria moved from Byron Bay in Australia to Eltham after they discovered the Old Eltham Post Office. The building was in a fairly degraded state but after a year and 1/2 of renovations we feel she is in a better state than ever. We don't feel like owners but custodians of a grand old lady.
Eltham located 300km north of Wellington and just 5 hrs south of Auckland. So a perfect stop-over for the alternative Taranaki route. The historic town is 12km west of the Rotokare scenic reserve a stunning 230ha fully fenced hill country catchment that is home to Kiwi, Tui, Bellbird, Saddleback, Nth Island Robin and a host of other rare species. Just west of Eltham is the Cardiff reserve which has a beautiful short bush walk alongside the Waingongoro river headwaters.
