Marathon is a great stop before going to key west or if you want to fish or do activities. KW isn't a great destination for that. Marathon is much quieter but also closes early.
I'd much rather stay in Marathon for a longer part and do an overnight in KW.

Went to Bahia Honda State Park - beaches were ok.
Went to Bahia Honda State Park - beaches were ok. They offer paddle boarding and kayak rental there. went on several trails, which were nice. Went on the old 7 mile bridge (cloudy day), but didn't get to see sunrise. Drove out to see mini deers and got to see a glimpse of one (it was not near sunset or sunrise, which is the time they recommend you go to see them).

I am extremely picky and I can say that this resort is simply amazing. Spotless. Cleanest place I have ever visited with all the luxury you could expect. Best resort in the keys ! Don’t hesitate to book this. You will not find better
We wanted to visit different islands in the Florida Keys, so decided to stay in marathon because it was very central (1.5h from Key West, 1.5h from Islamorada, and 2h from Key Largo). The hotel is very nice. the room is like a tiny studio apartment where you have a small kitchen a table and a fridge. some rooms have also a small patio. the room was clean, the furniture new. there was also a nice pool. we stayed there only for 2 nights but there were people staying there for weeks.
The general atmosphere in this hotel is great, and so is the staff (shout out to Alex!).
Really nice pool area (for adults and also for kids) and bar. Live music in the evening was very enjoyable. You can rent canoes on site for a realistic rate.
Good food at the Blu bistro. Close to big supermarkets where you can buy all kinds of prepared meals.
In general I like the location of Marathon compared to other islands on the Keys.
Big rooms, 2 tvs, balcony, nice shower.
I don’t know where I begin !!!! AMAZING 🙌🏻 super clean , calm , quiet , relaxing place , I can’t explain you have to experience it , the staff beyond than helpful. The lady at the front desk were super attentive. I am in love with this place. I’m super picky when it comer to rent for vacations and I nailed it this time better than any other hotel I’ve stayed at the Fl Keys. Highly recommended!!!!!!
The location is right in the middle of Marathon Key. It is a Motel as you would imagine a motel on the Florida Keys! There is a beach about 10 minutes drive away, A great place to have breakfeast is the Stuffed Pig, just down the road. Key West is an easy 1.5 hour drive away. The Motel is privatly run, so it is not a chain-hotel, but has its own charm and warmth. I would deffinetely go back!
Our room was very spacious and clean. The location was great because we were not too far from everything that we wanted to do. The view was breathtaking and right on the water! The breakfast that was served was top notch. The resort also has a hot tub which helps with working out the aches and pains of the activity and travel. One of the oldest resorts in the Keys and well worth the money!
we had a beautiful view, and a great porch to hang out on. Also, we were right next to Marathon and close to Islamorada- lots of great choices for food and drink- like Islamorada Brewing Co. and Keys Fisheries! Not to mention- we had a lovely time at sombrero beach! And though our unit faced west, we got a gorgeous sunrise! I’m sure it would’ve been a great place for a sunset too!
A nice hotel which was comfortable and clean. Set just off the water, it was really relaxing. They provide bikes, as well as paddle boards and kayaks. They have a secluded area on the beach which you can access too. The very friendly receptionist had some great recommendations for us to do as it was raining. Would definitely recommend.
The staff was super helpful.. but it took like one hr to check in.. so we got a free breakfast. Pools nice. I did a yoga class on the beach offered on site. Great instructor! Beautiful back area to see sunset and I loved the Sunset ceremony "Eventide" with fire dish to torch your troubles away symbolically. Great nightly tradition!!🧡
Location was great! Beautiful grounds. Butterfly Cafe was Excellent but pricy. Nice deck and balcony on each unit. Marathon is good central point if you are traveling further to key west for day trip/sightseeing. Parking was free and in front of the unit. Good place to stay as We were celebrating our 35th wedding Anniversary 🥰
Excellent location for a trip to the keys. Driving to key west takes approx. 1 hour, other attractions are in the immediate vicinity. Probably the cleanest rooms I have ever seen in the US, plus very spacious. Overall a great hotel and we will definitely consider to stay here again when coming to the keys.
On the beach, no walks to sit in front of the ocean. Close restaurant with live music and very good food but the music does not disturb so you can sleep very well, no noises around. Very nice swimming pool. The coffee served at the reception has good options and can be eaten in front the beach.
We loved the convenience of the hotel to the restaurant next door and across the street. Very happy with everything The Fairfield offered. We found our spot in The Keys. Would definitely stay here next trip.
I enjoyed the number of activities provided by the hotel. Our room was on the water by the boat ramp. The breakfast was good! Perfect price for what was offered.
