It’s quaint off the beaten track and you feel like you on a farm with beautiful views. The dirt road to access property is in good condition for a normal sedan. The owner is very hospitable and we appreciated the little extra touches like coffee, tea, milk, body wash etc.

We arrived for one night on Jan 3 2023 and basically De Rust was closed.
All restaurants had the night off save for one pub who managed to serve us their last 2 portions of bobotie thankfully. Could not even get fuel for the car or cash out of the ATM.

We loved this beautiful little town in a panoramic setting with various vintage deli's, coffee shops and antique shops. Meiringspoort is jaw-dropping beautiful.
The let-down was the begging children day and night in the street where tourists walk and eat. They were clearly on drugs. The one was extremely forceful and stood infront of our car, refusing to move unless we gave him money and the same child followed us all the way as we walked to our restaurant and back to our accommodation again later that night. It definitely did not feel safe and felt sad at the same time. Surely this should be a social responsibility issue for the town management to sort out?

Nice quaint little village.
We tested the hiking trail on the Meijers Rust farm, which were nice. Saw a large group of baboons and some buck.
Also the Meiringspoort waterfall is well worth a visit - short walk from the parking up to the waterfall and the scenery is just spectacular.

Small but charming, surrounded by lovely mountains, on the South side of the Meiringspoort Pass. A good trip would loop around Meiringspoort Pass (tarred, easy driving) to Prince Albert and return via Swartberg Pass (tougher driving). Both of these Passes take a while to drive, both are worth the effort, and are different enough to make both worthwhile.

Friendly and hospitable people.
Friendly and hospitable people. It is always a pleasure to stop when traveling through De Rust and our weekend stay was memorable and pleasant.
Many nice place and for an excellent meal, stop at the Spekboom Restaurant at the Rooi Donkie. You will love it
Everything was perfect.
The place was beautiful and clean.
The views are jaw dropping, and you can enjoy watching the sun set while relaxing by the bonfire.
Whatever utensils you need, are provided.
Debbie was very welcoming.
Extra blankets and electric blankets were provided for those cold Karoo nights.
A complimentary bottle of wine made from grapes grown on the farm made it extra special.
The surrounding area is magnificent. Cape Nature does an excellent job at making it accessible. De Rust has some excellent eateries for lunch.
Nice big family rooms in a good location. De Rust is a charming little village at the foot of the Swartberg Pass, with lots of little restaurants (next time we’ll try those).
Braai facilities and communal garden and pool are well maintained and create a nice place to chat to some of the other people staying there (although there is enough space to keep your distance if you prefer your privacy).
En voor de Nederlandse toerist altijd leuk om een landgenoot te ontmoeten als eigenaar van dit leuke plekje.
This place is a step back in time and is amazing. The owners are the some of the nicest people you can ever hope to meet. I arrived on a Sunday during a motorcycle trip through Cape and had managed to get a puncture. It didnt take long for the owner to have the bike in their own workshop wheel off and on it way to being repaired. The hotel is actively involved in the motorcycle scene in the area was soon introduced to other who came to chat Motorcycle travel. What an awesome evening and a great sleep.
The cottage is 8km from De Rust and easy to find. The self catering facilities are good, the water is hot and the braai area excellent. Wood is provided for 2 braai's. The view from the cottage is across the fields to the mountains. It is very quiet and the perfect place to stay for up to 4 people. The price is reasonable.
Great communication from hosts Deon and Karin. Rus in De Rust is a lovely cottage set in a beautiful garden - just what you need for an over night stop. The cottage is beautifully decorated and the bed was super comfy! Will definitely recommend a stay here for a night or three if you are looking for some peace and quiet.
Our friendly and interesting host added to the value of our stay. She is well balanced. If we ever should go to De Rust again and this accommodation is available, there is no doubt, we will go and stay there again.
Owners and staff were amazingly friendly and very helpful. It is a great venue to use when you are a group and overall we had a lovely weekend breakaway in De Rust.
Anmarie was an excellent hostess and ensured that we were well looked after. Beautiful and very neat cottage.
