We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle.
We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle. From the view and facilities to the helpfulness of the farm mangeress, Tanya, everything was lovely. Tanya went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us all a very warm welcome (including the fur kids!). There are beautiful waterfalls and rockpools that you can hike to and there is also a river and a dam with kayaks.
There is a huge indoor fireplace for the winter getaways and a huge undercover outdoor braai with dinner table and chairs. We brought board games, cards and puzzles and had endless laughs around the table.
If I absolutely had to moan about something, it would be the pressure of the shower. It is very low and soft - but! ....honestly we were swimming so much it really wasn't a big thing. I just can't think of anything else that was a negative :-)
The wood fire hot tub outside is a super bonus!
We will definitely be back!

What a surprise awaited us.
What a surprise awaited us. This town has a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and we didn't plan long enough to stay and explore all that it has to offer. A one night stop over was not enough. Colonial and Dutch influences in the architecture and a lovely selection of shops and restaurants and places of historical interest, which we simply didn't have time to see, but will be back to explore.

The TV did not work.
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it.
My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests.
The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough.
In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.

In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
Our cottage was just perfect. It has everything you need. It's close enough that town is just 15 minutes away, but far away enough that you can be secluded in your own privacy. The view is amazing and the cottage is perfectly comfortable.
The owners took us around to see the rest of the campsight and show us their future plans. Plus, they let us have a look at a few of the animals on their farm.
I would fully recommend this cottage/camp sight and we will definitely be returning.
One of my favourite hotel stays. We had a lovely time at Schoone Oordt, the owners and staff were so kind and attentive, the house and room were gorgeous, and we had the most delicious breakfast. The bed was very comfortable, and it was such a treat to have a fire and hot water bottles in our beds on a cold night. Swellendam as a town was really lovely, and we had excellent meals at the cafe and restaurant recommended by our hosts. Would definitely return.
Really had a lovely stay, the place is very picturesque, and incredibly quiet. The bird life is abundant due to the pretty farm dam. there are a few minor things that could be improved, but these are really minor and definitely don't detract from the great time we had. The owners were also very accommodating with a later check out, which we really appreciated. The beds are comfortable, the linen clean and fresh. I would definitely come back!
Wonderful hotel in a 200 year old Dutch farm. Beautiful surroundings, very tasteful furnishings and a relaxing atmosphere. We had a fantastic room/suite all by ourselves, which was absolutely magnificent and extremely comfortable. Wonderful breakfast with a chef who prepares the most delicious food. This place will make you relax and lose all stress and thoughts of home… Absolute tóp hotel!
Beautiful and Amazing Farm Experience.
The house is well equipped, very Spacious, Exceptionally clean, Stunning views and location was perfect and safe.
Nice indoor barbecue with table tennis and pool table to relax after a tough day out on the Around the Pot MTB's...
The host has been fantastic. Thank you Sonja ! Absolutely recommendable !
The view from the room was incredible. Self catering accommodation, so we decided to take full advantage of the room and nip to the local supermarket for food. We ate on our balcony area and watched the sun set. Staff were also very welcoming and let us use the washing facilities for an extra charge. Room was very spacious and everything needed inside.
This property is well kitted out with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. It is very well thought out.
We we’re there on a very cold an rainy day in Swellendam and the fireplace was absolutely magical. We were very cosy.
Beds are big and comfortable.
Probably one of the best overnight stays we’ve had.
We were met by the owner Lizette who welcomed us warmly. It was lovely to spend the night in the oldest home in swellendam. The property is a bird haven. Birders that need to overnight would love it here. The room was great with a little kitchen. Coffee, milk and rusks was in the room as well
Nice cottage on a farm. The owner has been really kind to me. The weather was terrible and I didn't have a car, so he offered me to show me around the area. We ended up having a 2hours tour through Trudeau pass, Montagu. The landscapes were amazing and the conversation too! Thank you!
Beautiful little house, with an amazing view of the mountains, vineyards and farm.
Very friendly host, great communication and easy access.
They have an inverter installed, which was great during loadshedding.
Probably our favourite stay for our holiday in the Capetown area.
The animals just walking by is absolutely fantastic. Very chill farm, very nice experience. Beds are also fine. Safe fence.
All the bbq equipment is there already, very thoughtful.
For us it was a great warmup for our safari days
perfectly located in Swellendam. we had a beautiful room and bathroom, sparkling clean and well appointed. Cynthia is the manager on site and she was fabulous. Breakfast was very good. Highly recommended!!!
We loved the quietness and stillness of the area and the hotel. Very close to Swellendam town incase needed. The quality of food at Just Amy was amazing and the menu prices (food and drink) we really good.
Great hosting, fantastic breakfast, lovely room, quiet location, altogether a fabulous place to stay. Ronette's tips on the attractions in the area were so helpful. Will definitely return.
Lovely little, well equipped cottage on a farm in the mountains; very conveniently located near the start of the Double Century Cycle Race starting in Swellendam.
