Great place to stay if you want to unwind and take some time off the grid. Perfect place to disconnect from all the stress and pressure of life. Definitely need a 4x4 or an all wheel drive vehicle. No restaurants or any other facilities close-by. Closest town is Underberg and mostly travel by gravel road. Wouldn't change anything and will definitely be back.

The beds were too comfy wish i could just take the matresses home. We had a very peaceful stay surrounding areas were just too peaceful, besides the fact that we had cold showers on saturday night it was only fixed the morning.

Great location and very quick response from the host when any questions/requests were sent through. Overall we had a great stay and it was everything a rustic location should be. We’d definitely go back. A few recurring issues remain (from previous reviews) and a couple of comments from myself: - the sliding doors don’t lock and are very stiff on the slide - gas bottle ran out on our first night. It was replaced first thing next day, but meant no cooking on that morning due to load shedding - the games are missing key pieces and are not in great condition - there is a tv but you need to take all leads to connect it to any device you take. There is no dvd player or other media device connected to the tv.

Stunning landscape with open space and rolling green hills wherever you look. It was overcast and misty during our stay, which just made the views more striking. Lots of nice places to eat, museum and shops to visit.

A beautiful town looking into the Southern Drakensberg.

A beautiful town looking into the Southern Drakensberg. Beautiful scenery. Lovely hikes. Good clean air. Brilliant for those that enjoy the outdoors. Need to have own transport. Has a Spare, Pep and Ackerman's in the town. Petrol garages available. Little eateries available and KFC. Personally I like being on the hiking trails around. Sani Pass is near so is Drakensberg Gardens. Plenty of B&B's and Cottages for accommodation.

    Very friendly people.

Very friendly people. Grind cafe has the most delicious pizzas. A drink and view from Sani highest pub, is a must. Used Major adventures, to take me up, they are so professional and informative. Other family members walked the Sani Choc walk. So much to do in close proximity to where we were staying.

We loved everything about the Birches Cottage. It is nicely situated in Underberg. It is safe and secure and has great facilities. The cottage was absolutely clean and well kept and maintained. There is beautiful trails which lead down to the river. We enjoyed this because we went down and relaxed and it was safe. There is also nice viewing platforms with breathtaking views. The hosts ensured that we were well taken care off and ensured that it was a memorable stay. Highly recommended.

We got upgraded from a B&B reservation to Self Catering Accommodation with no price changes due to availability. The staff are friendly and helpful. The location is perfect if you want to tour Sani Pass which is +/-20 minutes away. The property has a huge garden for guests to stroll and soak up the sun. We stayed in winter when nights reached below zero temperatures, but felt so comfortable due to the electric bed warmers.

The location of the Drakensberg Gardens resort and particularly Fairways is absolutely fabulous, there is something for everyone; hiking, biking, golf, fishing, many kiddies fun areas, teenage places to escape and still be safe, with attentive staff all over. The unit 124 at Fairways has everything you need for a family / friend group stay. Having a washing machine and tumble drier makes longer stays very easy.

Beautiful views at sunset with large fire and complementary wood provided. The stay was comfy and perfect for cold weather with the heated blankets, indoor and outdoor fire places and well insulated. The owners Virginia and John were so lovely and went above and beyond to help with anything necessary including providing information and directions on the beautiful secret spots around Underberg.

I liked the location- close to the Country Club and close to shops. The only problem with Underberg is that it is quite far from Midlands and we were looking to spend some time there. The host is also friendly and accommodating. They were helpful when we needed assistance. The electric blanket is quite nice on cold days. The fireplace was disconnected during our visit due to renovations.

The breakfast was fantastic and the staff were great and very helpful. There is a restaurant called the Olde Duck right behind the accommodation and the food and cakes on offer are amazing. There is also a lovely gift shop and a number of cycling and walking trails. The accommodation is very close to Underberg town and other amenities. The rooms are very spacious and well equipped.

The pictures do not do justice to the beauty of this property. The gorgeous views and tranquil stillness make this the perfect getaway. A truly remarkable accommodation in an absolute gem of a location. Far enough from the busier Underberg central but not so far as to be inconvenient. Sonja has done an incredible job. We will definitely be back.

We absolutely loved the location of the property. It was tranquil and close to the nearby hotels. The surrounding greenery, flowers, trees, dam, rivers and waterfalls were a treat. The lady who cleaned the cottage was a lovely person and very good at her job. The finishes of the cottage were good, and it was beautifully decorated.

The cottage was comfortable and well-equipped, even having a hair dryer, a rarity in South Africa! The setting, with sweeping views of the mountains, is spectacular, and the location is very convenient, just a short drive from restaurants in Underberg. Barry, our host, was warm, friendly, and very helpful!

The place was very well stocked to provide for self catering. Loved the little doggies, especially Holly who joined us for our walk to the little dam. Barry and Jen were awesome host and was extremely accommodating and friendly. Definitely a return for us...

The location of the cottage was perfect, very close to Underberg yet it didn't feel like it. Cottage was lovely and quiet, sitting on the verandah was very relaxing. Facilities had everything needed for our stay. Hostess was friendly and very accomodating.

Great location just outside of Underberg. Rooms were spacious with comfortable beds, and the breakfast each morning was also great. Bonus is also the on site restaurant, so you don't have to travel far for an evening dinner.
