Just a few minutes’ walk from Oxford city centre, the Head of the River is situated on the banks of the scenic River Thames. This traditional inn features a riverside terrace and a stylish restaurant.

The elegant bedrooms are individually decorated, and some have river views. All rooms feature a TV and a private modern bathroom with free toiletries. Guests will find bathrobes and slippers in some rooms.

We expected that the hotel would be quite noisy, especially as we had a room beside the beer garden and close to the road. However this was never an issue. We also thought the hotel may have been a bit far from the High street, but it was an easy walk to all the tourist attractions. And to stroll along the river was quite idyllic.

Attentive friendly staff, excellent Thai restaurant. We were made to feel more than welcome, thank you Jason and his team for a great weekend.

The name of the hotel has an unusual origin. Traditionally, the University of Oxford allowed their students to stable horses, but not the dogs. With nowhere else to house the animals, the proprietor of the local inn offered an invaluable dog-sitting service and the venue became known as the Dog House.

We live in ireland and travel over to the uk 4/5 times every year to visit family and tend to always stay in the big chains, but we came across the dog house online that had vacancies so we booked. So glad we did, the staff could not do enough for us, so friendly and welcoming especially simon. We will definitely book there again

This guest house is in a fantastic location to visit Oxford. The host was punctual and friendly. The rooms are simple and small, but very comfortable and warm even in the winter. The property was very clean. We would stay here again without hesitation.

What a great find, From the first moment we stepped into the pub until we left the staff looked after us impeccably. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was outstanding breakfast and dinner were one of the highlights of my daughters trip. The menu and variety available was of an exceptionally high standard. A perfect place to stay and relax just outside the busy city of Oxford. As an added bonus it was 10 to 15 minutes down the road from the mini factory tour.

The location is excellent offering parking with ample car charging which was great. The receptionist were super friendly and the private dining experience for my daughters 21st dinner was excellent. The next morning breakfast sadly was not included but we still stayed and again both staff and quality of food was excellent.

Guest house with multiple rooms. Bathroom was shared but lovely big bathtub. No shower but that was ok for me. My room was on the top floor up 3 flights of stairs. Though the place is unstaffed when I arrived the cleaner was there and was very helpful and helped me get my bag up the stairs. Breakfast was simple but does the trick. Room was comfortable, but not for tall people as this one was in the roof space.
