Set in the western part of Madeira, this brand new accommodation was built on the grounds of an old sugar cane factory. The Hotel Engenho Velho features scenic sea views, fruit orchards and an outdoor swimming pool.

Our stay here was exceptional! The room and all hotel was clean, well equipped, all staff was really helpful and kind. The pool (and also air conditioning in the room) was what we needed in such a hot weather. The breakfast was delicious.

Fantastic location over looking the sea in a very quiet, peaceful area. Rooms a very good size and the bed was very comfy. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. The restaurant being attached to the hotel was great if you didn’t fancy the trip out for dinner.Food very yummy and good portion sizes. Staff were superb, thoughtful and very helpful.

Our stay at Casa Lira will remain in our hearts for the rest of our lives. We felt like in paradise in this house. Fatima is a wonderful person, she took care of us with all her heart. To welcome her, she prepared a delicious dinner and gave us lovely and tasty gifts. The kids were happy, and so were we the adults. The villa was equipped with everything, we lacked nothing, it was very spacious, comfortable and wonderfully decorated. Billiards, heated swimming pool, pizza oven... We already want to go back there.

Location was central to the many villages and hiking trails we experienced. A 25 minute drive to Funchal to the east and a 25 minute drive to Porto Monitz to the north-west was ideal. In addition, the hotel was very easy to get to and parking facilities were excellent. The dinner at the restaurant was very nice as well as our daily breakfast. The view from our room as well as the restaurant patio is stunning throughout the day.

The property is charming - full of little loving touches and artistic choices that create warmth and welcome. It’s not a sleek posh hotel but rustic, homely and delightful. The views are amazing, the sun room tranquil and the pool, barbecue, garden unbeatable - inside is bijoux but cosy and workable

Quiet street with no traffic and noise, but still a good location for driving around the island. Lovely yard and garden with stone table and benches, perfect for calm mornings and evenings spent outside. The kitchen had a coffee machine, some coffee, and most utensils we needed for a quick dinner. The bed in the main bedroom was extremely comfortable – not too soft, no too hard, and the pillows were great too. Perfectly clean sheets.

Sunset House was the perfect place to stay for us on Madeira. The views in the evening are amazing, and waking up with the view to the ocean is equally impressive. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful throughout our stay and gave us great advice about what to see on the island. The rooms and common areas are very spacious, and cooking dinner and enjoying it on the balcony made us feel right at home. The shared bathrooms were no problem at any point, since there are 2 and only a few rooms. Thanks for this wonderful experience!

The view is great. The room is nice. The pool was nice. The restaurant (separate business) had great Espetada and paired wine. We loved dinner out on the terrace in the restaurant watching the beautiful sunset.
