Oxford Street

Stretching out for a mile and a half, you can pretty much buy anything under the sun on Europe’s busiest shopping street. Big British shopping institutions like Primark, John Lewis and Selfridges stock most of it, while the smaller shops toward Tottenham Court Road can still turn up the odd gem if you keep your eyes peeled.

    The whole world is here.

The whole world is here. I love the busy nature of this street. If you are the type that travel with family, please make a budget first. After my first day with my family, many years when the children were young, I learnt through the hard way. Unlimited spending affected my budget. please don't carry the family to this street without budget.

Oxford Street doesn't have a great reputation among natives of London. However, in the 1980s I would go there to shop at Selfridges for clothes. That's a classy department store and worth a visit.

Don't bother! Over rated tourist trap full of brands you can find on your high street , tat shops and sweet emporia. A real drop in standards and choice from what the old shopping area used to be.

Some buildings are very nice in this buildings and are really good great historical value, some are hardly maintained or never maintained. The good thing is that there is variety of shops in this street for all budgets . They down side is it doesn’t feel safe, the road is relatively narrow ( British standard) and it’s over packed with tourists and obviously lots of mugging going on, I’ve heard of one when I was there for two hours only.

The location is perfect. A short walk to Regents Park and Camden and Kings Cross along the canal. Loads of very good restaurants in walking distance. Oxford Street also on the door step. The breakfast is fantastic with a varied choice to suit everyone, from the full English breakfast to omelets and porridge prepared however you like it. The hotel staff are particularly welcoming and friendly.

Location was excellent for my needs. Was attending a show at The Dominion, which was literally just round the corner. As was the tube station too. Oxford Street ideally located if you want some retail therapy. Easy walking distance to Soho and Covent Garden, the latter being one of my favourite places in London. Given they are undergoing a major refurbishment, there was no intrusive noise etc from those works.

The location was great; supermarkets (1 min walk to tesco express-closest), coffee shops and restaurants near by and less than 10 min walk to Oxford street for shopping. The apartment was perfect for family of 3 (2 adults and 1 child- 6 year old). Kitchen was good (reasonable size friedge/freezer) and washing machine was good to have. Heaters and internet work well.
