If you visit this temple with pure devotion and faith one can experience peacefulness. It is one of the oldest Hindu temple. Lot of memorable history attached to its existence. Great opportunity for us visiting this temple at Madurai.

Make sure you are dressed modestly as there is a dress code.
Make sure you are dressed modestly as there is a dress code. Men can not wear shorts and women should have a shawl to cover their shoulders and head. Your shoes must be left outside the gates. You can check them in at the shoe locker and walk across the uncomfortable cobble stone street to the entry gate, else just wear cheap shoes or sandals that day and leave them outside the entry gate - they should probably be OK - thats what most of the locals do.GMUnited States - 8.0Scored 8.0

For me, going in in shorts is not allowed. You'll have to tie a dhoti/mundu over it at least. Pants are OK. You'll have to hand in your mobile phones and other electronics, including camera, at the entrance. Footwear and bags (handbags ok) are also not allowed and there is provision to store them at the same place as well.

A must visit temple.
A must visit temple. Please plan trip with minimum of 2.5 hours in hand at temple. If you opt to go in free queue then it would take minimum 3-4 hours to reach the center sanctum. But if buy a Rs. 100 special darshan ticket then it would take minimum1-1.5hours.

Please exit from same gate like if u enter from east gate cos ur phone & purse on same gate from where to enter in temple and if u try to move around in temple in day time floor as hot as u r walking on fire. Evening visit to temple would be good then.

The location was excellent, on a quiet street but only 10 mins across the river by tuk tuk to the Meenakshi temple and the crowds. The restaurant was great quality - buffet style breakfast and dinner with plenty of choice.
