Colosseum
The gore! The glory! This iconic arena specialised in sticky ends. Built in the 1st century, it could hold up to 80,000 spectators, who would come along to witness gladiatorial combat and bloody re-enactments of naval battles. As you look up at the stands, it doesn’t take a huge leap of the imagination to hear the deafening roar of the crowds, or to picture the spectacular savagery on show.

Absolutely book a skip the line tour ahead of time.
Absolutely book a skip the line tour ahead of time. Be sure and book the guided tour that includes the Colosseum, the Underground, The Roman Forum and the Palatine Hill Tour. It will take about 4 hours but worth every minute!

HUGELY IMPRESSIVE...but be prepared to walk to access it.
HUGELY IMPRESSIVE...but be prepared to walk to access it. Bus stops are reasonably near but the main road is higher and access is only fair if you have walking difficulties.
The size of the Coliseum is impressive and obviously once at the foot of the foundations it is even more impressive. We did not go in so cannot comment of interior...we felt we had seen enough just by walking all the way round it.

Loved it.
Loved it. If you want to look down from the middle level of the "seating" area be prepared to climb a few flights of stairs. The stairs are also steep. That said, it was worth it. Bring water when you tour the forum and the colosseum. Hold onto your valuables when in outside the immediate monument/archaeology area.

Our Uber was late therefore we were a few mins late.
Our Uber was late therefore we were a few mins late. When we arrived, the contact folks shuffled us thru the gate with no connection to the group. We never were connected to the group. When we tried to speak to someone we could not get our tickets to pull up so we were asked to leave.
Waiting to see if we receive refund we were promised.

We nearly didn’t do a guided tour which would have been a huge mistake as he was amazing and so knowledgeable and entertaining, even though it was a really hot day our guide made the whole experience fan

Very organized with how many people are touring.
Very organized with how many people are touring. Download the Rick Steves audio tour of the Colosseum and save the money. Try to get the underground tour or at least the arena floor to get the full feeling of being a gladiator.

Location was great , 10 min walk to the main Rome train station and 15 mins to the coliseum. Staff were great , really friendly and helpful.
Room was impeccable cleaned and breakfast was well worth it.
Spa and pool were a great too, very clean and as you had to book a slot it wasn’t overly busy .
The area itself was great lots of good restaurants near by and interesting shops.
Would definitely use this hotel if visiting again
The property is well run, clean and the staff are lovely. it is an easy 10 min walk from Termini station and has a metro right outside the door going to the Vatican which is very handy. it is also approx 10-15 min walk to the coliseum so it's a good location for this side of town, although you are 30 mins from Trevi and that general area.
Hotel was very centrally located. It's an easy walk to Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps one direction. A few blocks from the Coliseum in the other direction. The room was well furnished and had a really nice balcony with big French doors that made it feel more spacious and luxurious.
Well located, short walk between the Coliseum and the Spanish Steps. 5 minute walk to Carvor Metro Station. Hotel sent us a list of restaurants close by which proved useful. Typical old world Italian hotel. Clean, comfortable and friendly staff.
The staff were very nice and friendly. The location of the B&B is good, close to a metro station and the Coliseum. The room was large enough and tidy and clean. The breakfast was good as well.
Wonderful location, right next to the coliseum, easy access by public transport to any part of the city, easy walking distance to attractions. The apartment is clean, the owner is caring, the kitchen is equipped with everything you need, there is a coffee machine and coffee capsules, AC/heating in all rooms. Bright, comfortable living room. Overall the apartment is spacious and comfortable.
Breakfast was fine
Room was big and clean
Location was fantastic 20 min walk to coliseum and Spanish steps , trevi fountain
Staff were really friendly and helpful
I liked the location. It was perfect! Very close to the Coliseum. It is literally 10/15 minutes away. Many famous sights are nearby.
Shops, souvenir shops and restaurants are also close to this apartment.
Domus Diana is located 10 minutes from Termini Station and 5 minutes from Victor Emmanuel Metro Station. Walking distance from the Coliseum and the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. The accommodation does not offer breakfast, but every morning we were complimented by the hostess with delicious croissants and coffee. Diana was very kind and responsive, on the first day she gave us very good tips about the sights of Rome. The rooms are very clean.

In the book store of the colosseum you can take a look at some graphic illustration(it's kinda cartoon like) overlaying on the photo of the ruins
It's amazing to walk inside the colosseum and imagine how things were few thousand years ago. In the book store of the colosseum you can take a look at some graphic illustration(it's kinda cartoon like) overlaying on the photo of the ruins. It really brings history alive when you're looking at those old stones alongside with those graphic illustration. (We actually bought that book because it's pretty cool!)

The fact that almost every street has a famous site and most around the Colosseum have dozens of Roman Forums in various stages of presentation for tourists, which allows you to invision what the Roman Culture must have been like hundreds of hears ago

Because it's not a big city and there is so much to see when wandering between the 'big-ticket' sites like the Colosseum and the Parthenon. Walking allows you to come across the tiny pizzerias and cafes which you'd never see if you were on a tour bus or in a car.

We paid 24 Euro total for my family (children free) to gain access to the Palatino, Roman Forum, and Colosseum
I suggest visiting the city outside of the summer months. My family went during Christmas and though there were crowds, they were small. I can only imagine the lines and congestion in the summer. Also, if you really want to go to the Colosseum, get your combined ticket at the Palatino first! We paid 24 Euro total for my family (children free) to gain access to the Palatino, Roman Forum, and Colosseum. Worth it when I saw the crazy line into the Colosseum and we just walked past it all.

When going to the Colosseum, choose the Palatine Hill ticket entrance to avoid long queues at Colosseum entrance
We went second weekend of November, lucky with sunshine and temp was 20 degrees, so comfortably warm and just into their winter season so fewer tourists. Avoid visiting churches on Sundays as services in progress means restrictions. Mondays some museums closed. Get a tour guide for some things, essential for the vatican, otherwise it is a visual overload with no time to consult the info, so much better to listen as you look. Vatican is always crowded so easier to follow your guide and also prepaying means you avoid the huge queues to buy tickets. Angel Tours highly recommended. When going to the Colosseum, choose the Palatine Hill ticket entrance to avoid long queues at Colosseum entrance.
