Uffizi Gallery

What makes Florence the epicentre of art? All of it; but specifically the Uffizi Gallery. Its collections cover the ages, but its darlings will always be Renaissance born. You won’t find a better Art History 101 refresher. Hours wilt away inside this U-shaped mansion. The Birth of Venus tops many a best-of list. Better book tickets in advance – the masterworks cause quite a queue.

Get tickets for 8:15 AM, go with nothing but your camera and don't check your coat. Head directly to the Botticellis, and then to the Da Vinci's, Raphaels and the Michelangelo to enjoy them without the crowd, and then double back for the Gothic paintings. Do NOT make the mistake of pausing to view sculptures on the entrance level. Do NOT get distracted by the Gothic masters. Speed walk to the Botticellis and then the Ninja Turtles or you'll be viewing them across crowds jostling for selfies.

Packed with stunning art work including “Spring” and “The birth of Venus” by Botticelli. We looked at most of the works and spent 3 1/2 hours there. The queues were long, I’d advise prebooking your tickets.

    1. DEFINITELY get "skip the line" tickets. 2. Don't forget that you still have to wait in line to exchange the "skip the line" tickets for the admission tickets. 3. Don't forget you then have to wait in line with all the other "skip the line" ticket holders to actually get in. Plan accordingly and enjoy the FABULOUS art!

My second time going: make the reservation, folks!! You want to get in early and take your time. I wish I knew more about the ceilings and walls of the actual building. I must, must, must see for anyone slightly interested in art. I can't wait to return again!

Book tickets in advance, or you will end up waiting on line for an hour or more. Also, do some research before coming here. It's a big museum and you can get overwhelmed if you spend a long time looking at everything. Instead, you want to make sure you see the highlights: Botticelli's Birth of Venus, Laocoon statue, Titian's Medussa, the Da Vinci section, and a few other major, major works of art that you know you'd feel bad if you missed. To me, the remainder of the works are a bit of a bonus--I stopped to look at the ones that especially called to me (there were a lot; I was here for 4 hours), but decided I didn't have to feel guilty about walking past if others didn't pique my interest. Oh, and please note that David is NOT in this gallery. David is at the Academia down the street. I saw some people make that mistake.

    It's huge.

It's huge. Try not to spend too much time at the ancient statues that line both sides of the gallery. They are worth it, but you will be too tired to enjoy the masterpieces of old masters when you eventually reach them.

This was a large room in a great location just a few steps from the spectacular Duomo Cathedral which we could see out of our hotel room window. It also placed us walking distance from the train station, the Academia (with state of David) and the Uffizi gallery (with Birth of Venus etc). The hotel accommodated our early check-in, (so we could go on a tour), and our extra night request (due to the national rail strike).

The apartment was well appointed with a fitted kitchen and bathroom. Good size lounge and large bedroom. Bed excellent - really comfortable. Security of the apartment was good - based on a security code rather than a key for extry both to the building and then to the apartment itself. Brilliant location - 5 mins to Ponte Vecchio, Duomo, Uffizi Gallery; 10 mins to Accademia and Station - walking distance and no need to take taxis/buses. Very easy to find.

The location of this hotel is stunning. It is right in city center between the Ponte Vecchio and Uffizi Gallery. If you're in Florence to see as many museums as possible, this is where you want to be. It was between 5-15 min walk to most museums. Absolutely fantastic! The hotel itself is as stunning as the city. Beautiful marble bathrooms in the typical style of Florence, and the breakfast hall has paintings all over the ceiling, like most historic buildings in the city.
