We water taxied to the trail head and hiked to the Luxmore...
We water taxied to the trail head and hiked to the Luxmore Hut. Out and back this took us about 4.5 miles roundtrip. We got back to the water taxi an hour before it was due to arrive, so we decided to walk back to town. The walk around the lake took 2.5 hours. We were really tired but felt great to accomplish. We logged 21 miles that day as our accommodations were about 1.5 miles from town and we were totally on foot for the day.

We had free off street parking and all the staff were really friendly. It was a short walk to town and we would happily stay there again. They have lockers at $4 dollars a day which we took advantage of while we walked the Kepler track. He organised to do our washing when we came off the Kepler Track, what a legend! Nothing was too much trouble. The location is excellent for hikers, directly opposite the DOC office, and an easy walk to the town centre shops and restaurants. The room was clean and comfortable. Real coffee was a bonus. We will definitely try to stay there next time we are in Te Anau.

When I finished the track I was able to check in earlier. Both of these were really appreciated. The kitchen was well stocked with everything I needed for both of my stays. The shower was lovely and modern with great water pressure and heat.
