Empire State Building
Stretching into the sky at 120 storeys high, the Empire State Building was once the tallest building in the entire world. Not for the faint of heart, its observation deck provides a bird’s-eye view of NYC. Dodge the crowds by visiting between 8 and 11AM, and snap photos uninterrupted with the Big Apple as your backdrop.

Expensive but worth it.
Expensive but worth it. Staff at the top were helpful and knowledgeable about the skyline. Good exhibition about the history of the building. We went on a beautiful Sunday afternoon in August without booking and there was no queue!

Get a city pass with access to the Empire State Building if you can. This will save on the price of entry ticket as well as allowing you to skip the queue on arrival. Well worth it if you are short on time.

Keep in mind that it gets very busy and it's heated during winter, so it can get very hot and crowded inside. I would recommend layering clothes so you can stay an okay temperature during the whole visit.
I wouldn't wait for the elevators as it can get very long, you can always grab the stairs up to the viewing points and it's only 6 flights.

Be prepared to wait.. In line..for a LONG time.
Be prepared to wait.. In line..for a LONG time. The views at the top are phenomal, it really has a beautiful city scape view, but we spent hours queuing here and it is very badly organised.. There were two queue lines, but everyone queued on one side only as there was no one available to tell us where to go.. Then folks from the very back of the queue decided to go into the other queue line, and skipped past all of us who had been waiting for hours. Very unfair but no-one was on hand to organise the crowd

My maternal grandfather and grand uncle were two Irish workers who helped to build this historic building. I am extremely proud of them for their contribution in helping to build an iconic building. Buy a New York Visitor card - it saves you a lot of money and also you can beat the queues too.

The location was perfect, it was so central and we could actually see the Empire State building from our room! The room was actually really spacious as well, we were expecting a very small room and we were so pleasantly surprised. The bathroom was very nice, the bed very big and soft, and it was nice having a small kitchen. The employees working at the hotel were nice as well.
Great location, Starbucks, subway nearby.
The hotel view is magnificent 100% Empire State Building in evening and night lighting. The breakfast was ok, only the salad was missing. The staff was friendly and the hotel was comfortable and clean.
Staff were super friendly and helpful, room was good size and liked the duel aspect windows and views of empire state building . Prices were very good compared to other hotels in the area
Great hotel with a fantastic location (5 min from the Empire State Building, 10 min from Grand Central Station). Staff was lovely and helpful and the room had all amenities and was cleaned every day. Breakfast was solid as well, definitely recommended. There also is a lovely terrace/lounge at the 15th floor that can be enjoyed by clients.
Hotel is very close by walking to the Empire State Building, Macy's, Times Square and many more touristic places. Room is quite spacious, even if as per the map we got a smaller room. Bed is large and comfortable.
Location is key! Hotel is very central to pretty much everything in New York and very close to the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, Vanderbilt one summit. Easy walk to Times Square and Broadway. Longer walk to Central Park but very doable! The hotel itself is quite ‘boutique’. Beds are huge and very comfortable. Actual room is not huge but neither is it too small. Staff are friendly. Bar is very well stocked.
Great hotel in decent location in Nomad. Rooms are bigger than many in New York, and are stripped to the bare essentials - no excess furniture or gizmos taking up the space - while still being comfortable and stylish. The dressing area layout works very well and the lounge-bed is cosy. On the higher floors, views are superb; we were entranced by the views directly out to the Empire State Building and could see all the way to Times Square.
It's a stylish boutique hotel in the Garment District, strategically located just 10 min walk to the Empire State Building or Broadway, 5 min to the Fifth Avenue and 30 min to the Central Park. The reception staff are friendly, polite and super efficient. I hadn't had more speedy check-in or check-out for years. Our Privilege room had 2 queen sized beds (which were very comfortable) and was spacious enough for New York. The mini bar was fully stocked and room amenities were pleasant.

My best suggestion is to do the Empire State Building at night
If you want to avoid the crowds then I suggest going very early or late. My best suggestion is to do the Empire State Building at night. I went at 11.30 and didn't wait in line at all!! It's also open til 2am.

This meant we didn't waste half our day queueing for an attraction (queues for Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building were horrendous and did not offer the option to book a time)
Check if you can book in advance. The best thing we found was booking a time slot early in the day (at Rockefella and 9/11 Memorial) and returning later in the day after experiencing places where you didn't have to queue (Central Park, Brooklyn Bridge). This meant we didn't waste half our day queueing for an attraction (queues for Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building were horrendous and did not offer the option to book a time).
