If you actually want a picture of the Alamo or yourself with the Alamo, go early in the morning - it's deserted before 9am. Otherwise there will be crowds on crowds on crowds, especially in the summer.
Take your time at the Alamo. It's a special place for special reasons. Be sure to talk to the guides you see around. They are a mountain of information for the Alamo and for other places in San Antonio. I have to say the video had me shedding tears and the monument outside the front of the Alamo told the story. It's a beautiful place and I would love to return there one day.
If you don't mind not seeing the inside of the church, avoid the long line and enter through the open space in the walls just to the left of the church. It's easier to get a picture in front of the Alamo at night when it's more of a park for locals and the shrine has closed
You won't be able to take pictures inside and most of the Alamo has been destroyed. The building often shown is actually the church were the battle ended. There is a lot of history and the entry is free.
We enjoyed the information regarding the Alamo, etc. But was disappointed in the fact that they had taken out most of the artifacts for restoration. Understand, but still disappointed in not being able to see the pieces themselves.
Inspiring and interesting. Interesting to read the stories of the heroes of the Alamo. Long, hot lines though, need fans in the enclosed area near the end of the line where the cannons are and maybe a few benches along the line.
Very beautiful hotel located directly at the riverwalk. It also includes a balcony overlooking the riverwalk directly. A great spot to relax and enjoy the lively evenings at the riverwalk. Also the inner courtyard with the pool is great and relaxing. From the location you can explore the whole riverwalk by foot and also reach the Alamo on a very scenic route. The Valet Parking works awesome and we never had any problem to get our car quickly. We drove a big suburban and it was no issue at all to park this car.
This hotel was recommended to me by a colleague. The location cannot be better as it is literally opposite the Alamo The hotel is historic chic. Reception staff were so friendly and accommodating to our needs as I wanted to move my room so I would view the Alamo I had no issue with the size of the room or bathroom as this is an historic hotel The room was more than large enough with all the necessary amenities so I have no idea why there are some negative reviews about this hotel
The biggest advantage of this hotel is the location. About 5 minutes walk (0.2 mile) to the Alamo. Huston St. Public garage (it's covered) is located across Houston Street and only $9/overnight. The garage entrance is on college st. The hotel breakfast was OK, but if you'd like to try something different, I recommend the Panaderia Bakery Cafe that's located at the corner of Navarro & Houston st (just across the street of the hotel).
This hotel was clean, comfortable and a great location in downtown San Antonio. Close walking distance to the Alamo and the Riverwalk. Good value for the price, there is a daily parking fee, but your car is parked in the gated, secure hotel lot. Free breakfast was typical free, hotel fare. Would stay here again and would recommend.
Loved this hotel. Really interesting building. Great size and layout of room. Breakfast was great. Staff were lovely, particularly Angel and David. Right on the Alamo Plaza and next to the River Walk, you couldn’t asked for a better location.
Location is terrific, just a 5 min walk away from the Tower of the Americas, with the Riverwalk just right behind the hotel. Places such as The Alamo are also within a walking distance.
The location of the hotel was convenient as it was so close to the Alamo and attached to the shopping Mall. I enjoyed being able to walk to near restaurants from the hotel.
The hotel was clean and quit. The River Walk was right outside the door. It is about 1/2 hour walk to the downtown area and the Alamo attractions. We enjoyed our stay.
A nice hotel in a superb location with a very short walk to the Alamo, open top bus tour and riverwalk complex.
Only been there three times so not an expert. However staying downtown close to the famous Alamo it is obviously a travelers/ visitor city so everyone working there seems to understand the importance of quality service.
Branch out from the typical San Antonio Riverwalk experience. The Pearl Brewery, Southtown and Alamo Heights all offer excellent restaurants, shopping and activities that many tourists aren't aware of.
The Founders Day performers on the Alamo Plaza -children's choir, musicians , dancers.
We enjoyed our visits to the Alamo and the Spanish Missions.
Visiting the Alamo was a great experience, the history came to life and one appreciated the history behind the Alamo.
get a Alamo grand tour and ask for Ron as your tour guide. walk all the downtown and river walk area. If you have young children go to sea world.
