It's a lovely town with so much history to it.
It's a lovely town with so much history to it. The museums, while needing modernization and some TLC, have some interesting stuff particularly at the military museum. I would have loved to have had the time to visit some of the places where the Brits ambushed Commandant Gideon Scheepers whom they executed after a military court found him guilty of war crimes - they actually had him sit on a chair next to a grave and then the firing squad shot him. Worthy of remembering these guys, (Local African people, Brits and Boers) who found themselves caught up in the first war of liberation against British imperialism. Their sacrifices and keeping their names and the history alive is so important. Then to bring matters more current, a visit to the Robert Sobukwe permanent exhibition is important to help understand the contribution of one of Graaf Reinet's most famous sons.

It is a beautiful little town. I was so impressed at how clean the streets are. We will be back and will stay at Cypress Cottage. I forgot to mention that we had a huge breakfast that was made in our cottage just for us.

Most of the historical buildings have been well maintained and painted white. The church is still in excellent condition.
Some modernisation taking place right now in the main street.
SANS parks nature reserve worth a visit with good dry, dirt roads. Valley of desolation view point very good with tarred road to the top followed by a short steep climb. Area can get very hot this time of year Feb 19th 43C.

Graaff Reinet is a must if you are interested in early South African history. The towns has exquisitely restored early settlers properties and tree lined streets. The church in the centre of town is a sight to behold and is open to visitors. The Valley of Desolation just outside of town is absolutely fantastic and there is no better time to visit than at sunset.
The self catering unit we had at Country Village was spotlessly clean, and looked fresh and crisp. After a long trip it was a very refreshing place to walk into. Kitchen area was well equipped. No need here to worry about load-shedding as unit was equipped with a gas cooker and rechargeable LED lamps. Excellent value for money. Our host, Natasha was impressively hands-on and efficient!
This is a magical farm! Loved everything about the experience. From where the farm is located, to the friendly owners, Ansie & Johan. Just really enjoyed the peace, quiet & beautiful views. The star studded night sky was also quite breathtaking. Ansie & Johan have thought of all the details to make the accommodation very special and unique.
Everything was perfect!
Victorian Square Guesthouse is a gem in Graaff-Reinet. Perfectly situated to walk to historic places and good restaurants.
The rooms are beautiful, comfortable and exceptionally clean. This is our family’s second stay and we will definitely come again. Good value for money.
Loraine kind assistance was so appreciated after a long day’s travel.
Our stay at De Graaff Manor was excellent. We enjoyed the old house a lot and it reminded of us our time on the farm in the old farmhouse. The staff was very friendly. The room was safe and we loved walking to the nearby restaurants. We would recommend De Graaff Manor to anyone visiting Graaff-Reinet.
Toni's cottage was good for our overnight stopover in Graaff-Reinet, room was clean and neat, wifi worked. No complaints. Toni baked us some superb bacon and spring onion tarts for our 6am departure, they didnt last long. Toni directed us to Drostdy hotel for dinner - excellent choice.
Toni was a lovely host. She is very friendly and made sure that our stay would be as comfortable as possible. She made us a great breakfast in the morning. We loved that the place was pet friendly. I would definitely recommend booking this cottage for your next trip.
The introduction messages and welcoming feel upon arrival was unmatched. The hosts definitely believe in going the extra mile. The cottage offers everything one would need for a well facilitated self catering stay. I would definitely recommend this accommodation.
Room was spacious and beautifully decorated, as is the rest of the hotel. Staff members were friendly. Breakfast was exceptional. The Drosdty really is one of the nicest places to stay when in Graaff-Reinet.
Beautiful rustic farm stay in renovated cottage. Very comfortable bed. The cottage had everything we needed and more. Stunning scenery all around. Very friendly and welcoming hosts.
Great place to stay, great value for money.
Whole apartment for myself, the host was so friendly, wouldn't mind going there again. Such amazing place. Thank you Graaff-Reinet.
We are regular visitors at the Drostdy Hotel, and this was our first bad experience. Rooms are beautifully appointed, the setting and environment is lovely and inviting.
Nestled between the mountains and cozy atmosphere, loved the indoor fireplace and sounds of the farm life early in the morning and late afternoon. Lovely cottage
