This place is all about it's people. Roshan and his family go above and beyond to make your stay special. The food, all locally sourced and home made, is an experience in itself. Roshan also arranged the Safari for us, with a very experienced driver. Sandmal, our driver is very good at spotting animals. We saw leopards, elephants, sloth bears, and many other animals and birds during our full day Safari. Do take a quick walk down to the secret tranquil lake for an amazing sunset view.

Very tasty food and helpful staff. They were so kind with us and they helped with everything we needed. We booked the safari aswell with them, and it was amazing, very recommended. Our guide gave us a lot of information about all the animals.

Dylan is an amazing host and took care of everything for the safari tour! During the safari he gave us a lot of food and snacks, so no need to be hungry. We saw 5 leopards and 20 elephants, thanks to the driver that Dylan arranged for us! In the evening we had diner, a lot of diner! Again, no need to be hungry. Overall it was the highlight of our holiday, would recommend 10/10!

Everything made this experience perfect! We hot there by night, organized everything for next day safari, just woke up at 6am and had an incredible experience around the National Park with the car of this homestay. Good food, and good staff!

Basically next door to the park entrance, incredibly delicious Sri Lankan home cooked dinner, good room and Susil went out of his way to contact a petrol station that charged me £100 on the way there, calling them and arranging for them to refund to his bank account and then giving me cash. Perfect place for a Safari. Highly recommend.

The food and service at The Backwater's Lodge was exceptional and even though we missed our flight connection they rearranged everything without any issue. I recommend a swim in the river after a day safari!

The lodge is beautiful, amazing food, staff were very helpful with organising the safari and taxi to our next town. The room and ensuite very clean and spacious. Overall excellent stay and good value for money.

The host is a well known bioligist who build a few lodges next to the national park entrance and situated in the rice fields. Do not expect any luxury. The money earned go’s after costs back to nature preservation. GO HERE!!
