I stayed in the Historical Centre and it was easy to get around there, also from there to the beach, by bus, or to the port for trips, by walking and taking the Lacerda elevator. From Praca da Se, there is a great view to the port. I ate in small shops, and also in a restaurant called Mama Bahia, close to the Medicine Faculty, in Pelorinho area. Good food, generous portions, traditional elements. I also discovered a nice coffee-shop and sweets called Delta Expresso, in front of the Lacerda Elevator, 100 m down the street, great service, very varied offer.
Absolutely amazing place! Not to miss if you are in Bahia. Something to bare in mind about catamarans. We booked our return trip to Morro de Sao Paulo with Ilha Bella. On our way to Morro it was a proper catamaran and the trip was pleasant. On the way back it was a small boat and the trip was extremely rough. Terrible experience, every second wave would toss the boat in the air and shower passengers sitting in front. Half of the passengers vomited and the rest were simply terrified.
Really interesting city with beautiful old architecture and lots of cultural interest. We loved learning about the old churches and the interesting mix of religions, and can recommend getting a local walking tour guide to show the main attractions and explain their significance. The Pelourinho is spectacular. We can highly recommend the Balé Folclorico de Bahia, for a wonderful introduction to the local dance and music. The local beaches are beautiful and extensive, and a trip to Project Tamar to see the sea turtles is very worthwhile.
Morro looks a place out of Brasil. Of course there is a bit of Bahia with a mix of foering people living there. What makes the place even more special. The people are nice and kind. Baianos are so opened! You also don´t need to speak portuguese cause they know english, spanish and also hebreu. Surprise! Remember... it is a Iland and the local people depende on turism so that is why everything is charged. Is the way how the earn money there. Understand that everything get time to get there so that is why is more expensive. Just go with the flow and enjoy the good vibes from it =)
A charming little town by the beach. We used to visit Praia do Forte, that town, however has become a bit of a tourist zoo, with music blasting constantly from every little shop, bar, restaurant, local homes, day and night. For that reason we switched to Imbassai which so far has managed to stay relatively quiet. Alas, we noticed that this is changing for worse as well. Local bars and restaurants start competing at who's music is louder. At the village's tiny main square just anybody can bring their powerful stereo equipment (and Bahianos love their music REALLY loud) and blast it off all day long. Any local car can roll into this small village with the stereo causing tremors! That is our main beef with Bahia in general- peace and quiet is in a very short supply there, if that's what you're after.
Salvador is Africa in Brazil. It is a city with many contrasts, the Baiano culture is what Brazil is all about. Lively, entertaining and very rhythmic. It is not a city to come to if you are looking for a modern place to stay. It is raw, with an edge to it, do not come to Salvador if you are looking for Gucci or Prada. You come to Salvador looking for the grass roots of life. In Salvador, Bahia, they live life for the moment. It is all about now, enjoy life now, have fun now, if you are looking for good customer service, forget it. You will wait an hour for the menu, another hour for the food and invariable they will get it wrong. If you loose your temper quickly, then Salvador is not the place for you. This is not London, New York or Sao Paulo, it is all about staying cool, relaxing, and chilling out. Admittedly, this can be difficult when you are waiting an hour for your first drink but if you like beer (cerveja), great, if you want something a little different, then expect to wait. Brazil likes to think of itself as a 1st world country, this is definitely not the case in Salvador. If you want coffee shops, go to Amsterdam, if you want Calvin Klein, go to New Year. If you are looking for a taste of what life is all about, come to Salvador and leave your Iphone at home.
We loved staying in Morere (Hotel Alizees) away from the main village - because it was so peaceful and just so beautiful. The nearby beaches were stunning, particularly Ponto dos Castelhanos and Praia do Bainema. A real highlight was hiring a local guide (Guia Viviu, with the help of staff at Hotel Alizees in Morere) who took us to beautiful beaches, nearby villages, through an ancient mangrove swamp and across a river by canoe. He also pointed out really interesting aspects of nature. Bahia Terra were great at making all the travel arrangements to and from the hotel, and arranging a lovely trip out to the off-shore natural swimming pool. Great for snorkelling. A tractor / bus or quad bike were great ways of getting about the island. Hotel Alizees is beautifully designed in a way which is very much in touch with the natural environment and has a lovely 'eco' feel about it. The gardens are a pleasure to walk through with wonderful views; clever planting gives a naturalistic feel. They are also very caringly maintained. The breakfasts were fantastic - and included a great selection of tropical fruit, freshly made tapioca pancakes and lovely breads. The evening meals were consistently good and we really liked the way vegetarians were accommodated on request. Without exception all the hotel staff were extremely helpful. A particular 'thank you' to Leo, Bruno and Ana Claudia for being so welcoming and contributing to making our stay so special. Hotel Alizees in Morere might especially appeal to people who like independent travel but value having help to make it a relaxing time. A local restaurant in Morere we loved was Todo Pasa Pizzeria. Fantastic food and great hosts. Very knowledgable about the island and things to do.
To get to Lençóis you can fly directly to the local airport (usually more expensive) or take a 6h bus from Salvador (Bahia capital)to Lençóis (cheaper). Lençóis is a small, safe and charming town, with a great atmosphere. People are friendly and prepared for tourism. It has a good options of cute little restaurants varying from local food to fusion / contemporary gourmet food where you can relax after a tour during the day. Prices are the average for tourists cities. My favourite restaurants were Cozinha Aberta and Lampião, but I also deeply recommend Sabor da Serra and Cafe do Mato. To go out and listen do live music on Thursday, Friday and Saturday the best option are Cafe Bakana, Refúgio and Fuxico. You can visit the hole city by walking and visit waterfalls and rivers within a 15 min walking from the town. Rent a car and a guide or buy tours from tourism agencies are the best option to safely enjoy the astonishing nature around Lençóis. Don't do it by yourself if you don't know the area.
Beautiful, safe town in the heart of Bahia. Hired a car for two days to go to poço Azul (snorkling in the cave), poço Encantido, poco do diabo (could swim up to and under the waterfall), gruta lapa doce (caves), gruta do partinha and then morro do pai inacio for sunset - such a magnificent view! Hiring a car was much cheaper than doing those places as a tour. Food is on the expensive side but mini supermarkets mean it's possible to cook for yourself. Wish I had had more time there, could have easily spend a week and included a multi day trek.
There wasn’t anything to fault with the Aram Yami hotel. The staff are absolutely incredible - attentive, informative and knowledgeable. The morning breakfast was superb - thank you to the kitchen staff who were always smiling! We chose the Bahia Suite which was perfect. Super large, comfortable bed with soft pillows, great A/C, separate shower and toilet and a wonderful view out to the pool. The pool area had stunning views across the bay. Complimentary drink and fruits on arrival. Wish we had more time here. Next time!
After a catastrophic discover of the 5* Fiesta Bahia Hotel, it was a great pleasure to find a real good 4* hotel, which does not pretend to be the best, but who is doing the work totally fine. Hotel is new, 100% clean. Despite room is small, if you have room with balcony, you even have view on the ocean. Breakfast is as good as any other 4* or 5* hotel, despite the room is small but big enough for the size of this small hotel. Kitchen cooks for you your desire breakfast. Shower with confortable hot water.
Itacaré
Breakfast is outstanding. But, no seats enough at all. A tiny breakfast area for loads of room with 4 bunk bed in each room. I had no seat for myself. I use the wall to put my plates on. Location is a nightmare in the heart of a fashion mall. It's not Bahia, it's not even Brazil. It's a fake district that is so fake as a cinematographyc place. Fleed away from Itacaré. Go to Barra Grande taking a boat from CAMAMU. Nativus boat on Mondays, on Wednesdays, on Fridays and Saturdays at 12 pm.
Itacimirim
The hotel is beautiful! It is just right by the beach like on the photos with two spotless clean pools on site. The beach on the front is It's open sea so it's not the best place for a dip. A short walk to either right or left will provide a nice area for a swim. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious. The room was big and clean. The staff was friendly and always ready to help. I really enjoyed my stay and so did my partner and I would love to return the next time I am back in Bahia.
Morro de São Paulo
Morro is small and the property is pretty close to the Main Street with restaurants/bars/shops and even in front of the apartment you find all that and more. The place is spacious, AC worked, Wifi worked very well, loved the balcony, private entrance. The hosts were great, very responsive and accommodating. It felt like home. Keep it mind it’s not a hotel and mosts rental in Bahia places provide basic bed sheets. Definitely recommend it and absolutely would stay there again.
Ilha de Boipeba
It is an amazing place, with a very considerate and friendly owner, George! This is the the best place I have stayed since I was in Brazil. You wake up with the birds chirping, amazing full-vegan breakfast with a touch Bahian cuisine. I looked forward to the mornings during my stay. If you are coming to Boipeba, this is the place to stay, I will hopefully come back very soon. Thank you for everything, George, Geison and all the friendly ladies working there!
Santo Antonio, Salvador
fantastic location in old colonial building in Pelourinho! you can reach all places by walk in centro. Claudio his uncle and father running the place and they doing great job. Very nice breakfast served on the terrace with view of Bahia and ilha Itaparica. Breakfast was tasty n rich with lot of fruits and great coffee. Good value for money, welcoming people around you. We would stay even longer but hotel was fully booked.
The rooms were clean, comfortable and the hotel itself was 20 feet from the beach. You do not got to Salvador to spend all your time in the hotel. Hit Hotel was everything we expected, wanted and needed for this trip. The staff were very helpful and attentive and it was in the perfect location. I would recommend Hit Hotel in Salvador Bahia, Brazil every time. We will be staying there again when we go back to visit.
Igatu
Wow!! What a beautiful place and stay!! Getting to Igatu is quite an adventure (some could say quite a challenge), but all is forgiven once you get to the Pousada. The place is charming and well located. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Breakfast was a trip back to David’s childhood with tropical fruits, countryside Brazilian coffee and all the Nordeste treats you can find in Bahia. 10 out of 10.
Salvador
The staff are all very friendly and welcoming The hostel is also 5 minutes walk from Pelourinho Square so perfect for exploring the old town of Salvador. The breakfast was good and I liked the fresh fruit and juices lthough I thought some of the things could be labelled as they are traditional Bahian dishes and a foreigner obviously won't know what they are (sweet or savoury).
Praia do Forte
This is the third time we chose IberoStar Bahia for our family vacation. Excellent food, tremendous pool, the beach can be reached with a few steps. If someone wants peace, fun, respectful environment, excellent service, night shows, child activities, and excellent food, this is the place to go. All three times we spent 7 nights at the hotel, always looking forward to return.
Great location in the heart of Pelourinho. The building has a lot of character and the rooms are buzzing with Bahia character. The hotel also has a spa with a jacuzzi, steam room and massage options. The highlight are the staff, Erick and Gabriel were super helpful and always had a smile on their face. Definitely a place we would go back 😊
Vitoria, Salvador
A lovely house, it gave me a sense of living in Salvador 100 years ago. Light and airy and tastefully decorated. The suite was cute. The breakfast is the best I have had in many years of staying at hotels in Bahia. The staff and owner are charming and kind. A gem of a place. I will return. The location is excellent.
Itapuã, Salvador
An oasis of peace in the great metropolis of Salvador da Bahia. Best location, just 15 minutes from the airport and close to the beautiful beach Stella Maris. The service is top, super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very tasty and typically Brazilian. The bed was super comfortable.
the hotel is centrally situated at the beach of Itapua with a nice swimming pool and access to the beach. the staff is incredibly accommodating and service minded. everything works well in this hotel. I have visited a number of hotels in Bahia and this is by far the best one. thank you
Trancoso
Casa de Perainda exceeded our expectations and contributed to a trip that we will never forget! Every detail at the hotel was thoughtful. There were so many amazing surprises along the way - especially the breakfasts. We will be back and will recommend to anyone travelling in Bahia!
Good Bed, Excellent breakfast from 7am to 10 am, Friendly staff, I was on a pleasure and business trip as I had some work to do at the university of Bahia and the Hotel is conveniently located 5 minutes from the university. Also very close to the main attractions in the city.
Itacaré
beautiful room with huge space. super nice balcony and lots of green. by far the most beautiful hotel we stayed in Bahia. super kind staff, specially the receptionists, already ready to help. i can only say good things about Burundanga. thank you
Ilha de Boipeba
Morere was definitely our best Bahia experience and the hotel was the icing on the cake. Great hospitality, lovely bungalows and breakfast/dinner really nice. Not easy to get there, but what you get is paradise. Don’t miss.
We liked the service, the staff was very friendly and helpful. It was nice to have a pool at the hotel to cool off from the Bahia heat. The breakfast was small but delicious. We loved the tranquility of the hotel.
