The Bower House, Restaurant & Rooms

Hotel in Shipston on Stour

Located in Shipston on Stour, 45 km from Oxford, The Bower House is Grade II listed building dating from 1731. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant and bar. The accommodation was beautiful and top of the range in everything. The building is historic and contains just a few rooms with stairs and no lift obviously. The bathroom was huge. The bath was so big I only used it once as I had difficulty getting out of it. But the shower was great with a huge showerhead like a dinner plate. Lots of lovely bathing/hair products for use if required. Very luxurious with marble everywhere. I loved the wallpapers used in the other rooms. There was a large fan in the room that was very useful during the mini-heatwave we have just had. If you show your key to the staff in the excellent deli which is next door, you will get a 10% discount (owned by the same person apparently). I think this could be advertised better. The breakfasts were delicious with lots of choice. Proper lattes on offer too as part of the deal. My partner said the scrambled eggs were lovely and he is very hard to please! My favourite was the pancakes with maple syrup, berry compote and vanilla ice cream (an enormous plate of food though - you won't need to eat for the rest of the day). The staff were lovely, especially the restaurant manageress who looked after us most of the time. Everything was Covid safe with all staff wearing face masks. There are plenty of places to eat and drink in Shipston-on-Stour. There is a very good Italian restaurant at the bottom of the road but you will need to book as it is very popular (just ask the man at the door to book your in). We ate in the Bower House restaurant on our last night. It was a bit expensive but good quality food. Their restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. There is not alot to do in Shipston so we drove out to other places. Stratford on Avon was quite close. Warwick too but another time. And lots of Cotswold villages and towns. I would say for the money we paid it was exceptional value. We hope to be back.

The Frocester 4 stars

Hotel in Stonehouse

Situated in Stonehouse, The Frocester has a restaurant, bar, terrace, and free WiFi throughout the property. This 4-star hotel offers luggage storage space. The friendly staff made you feel like at home. Cleanliness is very important. Towels were changed every day for a month..They clean the room and garbage daily. It is great that they offer fresh milk, tea, coffee, biscuits and water every day. Since I stayed for a month for a long time, a laundry service was required. Our laundry came with a wonderful smell and ironed. They did not charge for the fee.Thank you in particular Rachel Sandell. He helped us in everything.

FAQs about hotels in Cotswolds

The Quaint Heart of England

One of England’s most quaint areas, the Cotswolds are an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with rolling hills interspersed by picturesque villages with limestone buildings.

From Cirencester to Chipping Campden, Stow-on-the-Wold to Stroud, the laidback lifestyle makes this area a great choice for an escape to the country. Booking.com has some fabulous accommodation and, of our range of Cotswolds hotels, luxury and budget alternatives are covered in equal measure.

The largest place is Cheltenham, a wonderful Regency spa town. Neighbouring Gloucester has some well-preserved medieval buildings and an impressive cathedral. Some of the most photographed medieval Cotswolds sights are the Arlington Row almshouses in Bibury. To the east beautiful Burford has a high street going up a hill, Burford Priory country house and the large Cotswolds Wildlife Park just south.

More feathered friends are found in Birdland Park at Bourton-on-the-Water, a lovely village with low bridges spanning its river. Forming a triangle with it are Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Norton, whose former mill and almshouses are worth a look. Broadway to the north-west has a main street in the shade of hills, one of which has a tower from where it’s said you can see 13 English counties!

Wherever you decide to stay, check Booking.com for great Cotswold hotel deals.
