Haweswater Hotel 3 stars

Hotel in Bampton

In the heart of the Lake District national park, Haweswater Hotel has a bar and a lake view terrace. Brasserie 37 overlooks the lake and offers a menu of local, seasonal produce. Location was secluded, beautiful, quiet, and well-tended. Beds were amazingly comfortable, staff were so kind and attentive, and Alicia was wonderful as our server for dinner. We could not have asked for a better first night in England after a long first days' travel from Atlanta, Georgia. We only wished we could stay another night or more. And we loved the pet-friendly atmosphere and really appreciated your support of the local environmental organizations - we gave many donations for several bird pins in the rescue organization's box at the entrance and our daughter loved selecting which ones she wanted. I donated for one for my 78-year-old mother at home and she was so delighted to hear about your hotel and how we came to find this pin for her. We hope to return soon.

Royal Oak at Keswick 4 stars

Hotel in Keswick

The 18th-century Royal Oak at Keswick is located in the market town of Keswick, just 2 miles from Derwentwater. Lovely room in a pub/hotel. Very clean for a hotel that is dog friendly! Located in the centre of Keswick so an easy walk to everything and a great base for the Lake District walks. Nice modern bathroom, bed was a double so a bit small for the two of us but we knew this at time of booking. Very lovely staff. Would recommend especially if you have a dog!

FAQs about hotels in Lake District

Poetic Artistry at its Best

The inspiration behind many a poet, the serene Lake District has majestic peaks and glorious lakes that form the UK’s largest and most visited national park.

A particular favourite of Wordsworth, Windermere is England’s longest lake and her waters are still plied by historic boats. With a range of luxury Lake District hotels and a Beatrix Potter Museum, the town is connected by cable-operated car ferry to a spot close to Near Sawrey where Miss Potter once lived. Near the lake’s northern tip is popular Ambleside, home of the Stock Ghyll Force waterfall.

A road goes north from here past picturesque Grasmere and Thirlmere lake to Keswick. Set by Derwent Water, this pretty town is overlooked by Skiddaw, while Scafell Pike – England’s highest mountain – is to its south-west. Bassenthwaite lake is north-west, and Glenridding to the east is on the shores of the popular sailing spot of Ullswater, watched over by Helvellyn.

In the Southern Lakes, Coniston is a small village by a lake offering watersports. South-west is the port town of Barrow-in-Furness, and also by the sea is Grange-over-Sands with its long promenade. Kendal is known for its tasty mint cake and has a museum of Lakeland life, as well as a good range of Lake District hotels with pools on Booking.com.
