I always enjoy Edinburgh ,it is a beautiful city ,and very good transport . But remember when you get the tram you must have a ticket before you board the tram and validate it ,or they charge you . £10 . The bus is £1 60p for anywhere on Lothian bus . Have exact fair no change given
A lovely city. Small and easy to explore with plenty of interesting places to see. Museum of Scotland is a must, particularly the guided tours where you can learn more than just wandering around on your own. For a good value meal in interesting surroundings try the Caley Picture House on Lothian Road, a converted cinema.
Edinburgh is one of the finest cities on the planet - and it has the most wonderful football team - Heart of Midlothian FC! What town could have more or be better?
The royal mile is a must visit. Have dinner at the Albanach on the royal mile it serves great food and drinks. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip to the castle, pre booking avoids long queues. There are great views of the city to be seen and lots of interesting exhibits. We took a Lothian bus tour, tickets are available to purchase at Waverley bridge and the buses depart from there are well. We took a set 1 hr tour and there were a couple to choose from and it really give us a great tour of the city and showed us some other interesting areas which we probably would not have seen during our short trip, at £15 it was worthwhile. We took A gin connoisseur tour at the Edinburgh Gin Distillery, it was £25 and included a session on the history of gin, a view of the two stills and a fabulous tasting session where we tried 6 different drinks and had a great sized bottle to take away. The tour was informative yet light hearted and was such good fun!
Loved all of it, so much to see, Castle guide tour is a must, very informative And the bus tour is fantastic too. So easy to get around on buses, buy a day pass from LOTHIAN buses, not any other and you can jump on practically any bus to go here and there.
I love Edinburgh. Worked there in the 1970s and visit almost every month. You do not need a reason to go - just meander through the old town and watch the throngs of people bustling about. Edinburgh centre is so walkable and every corner holds a delight in terms of architecture. Buy a day ticket on Lothian Buses and hop all over for a reasonable cost - from Morningside to Ocean Terminal, Stockbridge and Braid Hills. Enjoy.
Really cosmopolitan city that wasn't too big to get around on foot. Wonderful cafes and restaurants, plenty of choice. Lots of history. Lothian buses from the airport to the city very regular and very cheap. Would recommend visiting the Scott monument for great views over city and it is reasonably priced too. Also if you like gin I would recommend a visit to the Edinburgh Gin Distillery, very good value for money.
Beautiful, unspoiled 17th century planned village situated amid East Lothian’s rich and verdant countryside. Stay at the Teeeddale Arms hotel in room 2 Eat at Falco’s in Haddington - 5 minutes drive.
Historical and cultural. And a fun place even if not during marathon. Innes and Gunn beer kitchen on Lothian road below castle is my favorite for drinks and or food.
Lots to see and do no matter what your particular interests are. It's very touristy, of course, but time your visits to the main attractions and you're ok. Buy day tickets on the Lothian buses, or better still a week long pass if you're around that long. The bus service is amazing.
Gifford
I really love this traditional old inn filled with antique furniture and interesting objets d’art and paintings. It’s in this in the lovely village of Gifford which is a great base for walking or cycling in East Lothian. Great staff who are doing their utmost to keep guests happy during current government imposed restrictions (based on some unbelievably poor science I think) which they had no control over. Dinner was enjoyable and breakfast was superb.
Port Seton
Very friendly locals. The store is a perfect location for exploring East Lothian. Edinburgh was fantastic and the beautiful North Berwick which is only 20 mins away is a must! Lovely spacious apartment with everything we could possibly need and delicious homemade shortbread on our arrival. Hosts exceeded our expectations when my partner left his watch behind by mistake and they sent it to us, can't praise them enough.
The flexibility of the breakfast menus and times for breakfast. There was a good variety of main meals for the number of days we stayed there. Tthe location was quite right for the places we wished to visit in West Lothian.
Gullane
Well equipped modern, pet friendly apartment. Extremely comfortable super king bed. Ideal base for touring East Lothian. Good communication with owner
Central location in very small picturesque village, with good access to East Lothian. Staff were friendly and helpful. Lively bar.
Good location for the East Lothian coast adjacent to the A1. Friendly staff,, good value for money food in the pub/restraunt .
The whole property is fascinating. it's centered around many golf coarse with an astonishing view. There is even a lake inside the perimeters of the hotel. The main building is very old but the wings have been added later to add more rooms. The upgrade to the bigger room was really worth it. I got a very big room with a very nice view.
The room is fantastic Really good value Great choice for both short or long stay
Perfect location in the centre of the old town but no noise from outside due to excellent sound proofing on windows. Lovely modern room with excellent facilities and superb bathroom. The staff at reception were extremely helpful and accommodating.
Everything was perfect, friendly helpful staff. The room was a tad dated BUT had all the facilities that we needed. The bar food and breakfast was excellent quality.
Location was perfect as was near airport. It also allowed us to keep that sense of historical Scotland with its authenticity and character. Nice to not stay in a sterile airport hotel prior to leaving. Kind, kind staff.
Super comfortable location in new town part, bur with really short walk to old town. 2min to train station and bus stop to the airport was behind the corner. Room was super spacious well equiped also with oldfashioned ironing table☺️. 24h reception was also helpfull for us. Totally worth choice for final part of our scotland trip.
Exceptional staff. Very friendly. Clean. Tidy. Food great. Bed comfy. No noise from other rooms. High quality place. Recommended.
Great location and facilities. Staff excellent very friendly and helpful.
Great stay and excellent location!!
Clean, modern, great location - just across from the train station.
Just everything except the internet! I would stay again for sure! I didn't try the breakfast so i can't tell about it!
