Inverness is in a very lovely part of Scotland. The scenery is stunning! Enjoyable to walk around and lots of history to learn about. Close to other sites so a good base for doing day touring from.
Once a city full of history and promising potential, Aberdeen has unfortunately become dull and extremely grey. There were few restaurants and bars to choose from as well as a severe lack in things to do during the day. There were a few museums to visit such as the maritime and tollbooth museum, but the art gallery was closed due to refurbishment plans which have already been delayed by a year. The only inspiring piece of architecture, Marischal college, was closed off to the public and its view had been blocked by a block of uninspiring office style buildings. Union Street, the main road connecting the city, consists of an abundance of random shops, a large majority of which are kept in a bad state. It is a shame that such a city of history, located in one of the most beautiful areas of Scotland has failed to celebrate its history and culture. Considering it has one of the most international universities it seems strange that the city does not want to promote itself to the abundance of those visiting and living in it every year. As a resident of Scotland myself, I am disappointed that Aberdeen has become such a dull and uninspiring place.
A pleasant hotel out in the country but within easy reach of Aberdeen. The staff were friendly, helpful and well informed. The accommodation was comfortable and with character, well maintained and clean. I would recommend Maryculterhouse as a stop over for the ferry or for a longer stay as a base to explore this area of Scotland.
Oban is beautiful, you can visit all the islands in Scotland from there.if you have a car castle stalker a must .if you are thisty and hungry ,the weatherspoons pub on the harbour.
I originally came from Alloa many years ago, but it has changed hugely since then which is to be expected. It is a good place to stay to tour the central area of Scotland with easy road links to both Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Liked everything . Cafes , museum one of the best in Scotland and free! Recreated Fort commander office a timetravel.. momentous orders signed in this office. A touch of outlander ! Ladies in the charity shop sang us a song! So friendly! Tandoori restaurant very good.
If you go to Jedburgh go early in the day. We didn’t get there until 3pm It was a Monday. We could have gone into the Abby but decided to have a coffe in a lovely cafe in a car park below the Abby. We then went to find our bed and breakfast stay which was down a country farm road. We went back to Jedburgh to find somewhere to eat and drink but everything except a couple of hotels was closed. This was at 4.30 We walked around and looked through the windows of the town and it was very Earie as there was no one about. We ended up buying fish and chips at a take away, we then found next door the only pub/bar opposite the Abby. No time to go back the next day, as we were driving to Scotland, so a bit of a wasted journey.
I liked it all! Love this area 0f Scotland! This was my fourth visit to Kyle of Lochalsh! It will not be the last, I’ll be back soon! Stunning scenery, sometimes dark & brooding, in a word , so diverse!
Oban is stunning. A perfect central point for touring the West coast of Scotland. There is so much history and culture involved in this region you can't help falling in love with it. They have a train station a ferry port and airport. A really good bus and taxi service.
Forget Inveraray. Head down the loch to the Creggans Inn. If the weather is decent sit outside and watch the boats glide by. This is a gem of a place. I adore the West Coast of Scotland.
Callander
I made this booking for my husband, who has advanced Parkinson’s and was on a short trip to Scotland with his carer. The Roman Camp Hotel is where his parents met in 1940, and he was keen to spend one night there en route to meet the group of friends he was holidaying with in Lochearnside. I can’t speak from personal experience, therefore, but my husband said it was absolutely wonderful, the room was excellent both generally and for its disabled facilities, and that the staff could not have been more pleasant or helpful.
Lerwick
I stayed at Craigielea Apartment 3 for 5 nights with my husband and dog. It was a perfect base for exploring Shetland and conveniently located close to the ferry terminal, shops and restaurants in Lerwick. Lerwick is a lovely town - one of the prettiest and most charming in Scotland. The apartment is really stylish, comfortable and well-equipped. It’s also super cosy, if the weather takes a turn for the worst outside. I can’t recommend the place more highly. The owners were lovely too, very helpful and friendly.
Stornoway
Woodside Guest House is a beautiful, clean and bright property. We really enjoyed Marina’s breakfast, probably the best breakfast we have ever had in a B&B and not only in Scotland. Marina is very attentive with all the details and the result is amazing. The B&B is a short walking distance from the town center. Being that close to the town center is very easy to enjoy a variety of restaurants and very pleasant forest walks around the Lews Castle. For dinning, I would recommend the Royal Hotel.
The entire experience was the BEST we had in Scotland! The breakfast was wonderful and delicious, a good thing too because it had to last me until dinner. The staff, the location and room and- this is key to my enjoyment of Commercial Hotel and Dufftown- were the people. Yes, I felt safe, and welcomed by the residents of the community. A venue,a town, a country, a journey, are defined and remembered not by the attractions, but by the people you meet. I can not wait for an opportunity to go back.
Paisley
Courtesy and friendliness of host Hamid. The apartment was very comfortable. Lovely and warm during a rather chilly, stormy time in Scotland. Comfortable beds. Apartment is in a terrific locale, close to Glasgow airport and within walking distance of Paisley town centre. Hamid the owner also offers a 'pick up' service from the airport for a small charge which was most convenient as we had several heavy bags and a sick 4 year old. We would thoroughly recommend Townhead apartments!!
Lovely, booked couple of nights stay over as holiday was in north Scotland, didn't expect the standard we got. Friendly, helpful staff to the clean room ensuite, great facilities in and out of the hotel, well impressed and the breakfast, wonderful, no rushing lot's of fresh alternatives. We opted for a quiet room, best nights sleep and the price was a bit more than average but worth it, the swimming pool sauna and wet room finished off our short stay over Definitely coming again
I had a very nice stay in Pitlochry thanks to the amazing guest service of the staff at Scotlands Spa Hotel. The spa services were great, all I needed, and the breakfast was well cooked. Swimming or relaxing at the jacuzzi watching the sunset over the hills was a memorable experience. The location is also well spoted, not being Pitlochry a big town, to enjoy the surroundings and some walking trails around the area. Very nice pubs and restaurants close as well.

With the present situation with Covid, we were a little nervous at having a break away in Scotland. We had no need to worry, this Hotel and the owners put us completely at ease. We felt so comfortable, they are lovely people. Breakfast was excellent, Beds were comfortable. We had a little glass of bubbles in the garden and enjoyed the beauty of the surroundings. We will definitely be returning to this beautiful accommodation.
Stranraer
Perfect location on the Quayside with Tesco's only 5/10 mins walk away, great to find somewhere clean and comfortable and reasonable priced that can accept cats or dogs, the tea and coffee were most welcome and a great wake shower (or bath) helped to start the day. I can definately recommend Lisa's Apartment if you travelling to/from Cairnryan or visiting SW Scotland.
Three of us stayed here for two nights (14th and 16th August 2020) during a lads golf trip to Scotland. I felt that the hotel provided great value for money in the centre of Inverness. Rooms were excellent for the price paid. Bar area was nice (despite the covid restrictions) and we felt that the staff were very friendly and helpful. Good selection of drinks at the bar.
The house is just beautiful! The family that runs the Hotel has every single detail taken care of. A wonderful experience. We stayed here by coincidence since it was in our way back to England from our Holidays in Scotland and it couldn't have ended better. Rooms and bathroom are large, breakfast delicious. Staff super helpful and bonus: the place has a great history.
We had a lovely stay at the Western Isles Hotel. We thought the room was great - our view was spectacular. The property was charming and the staff were very helpful and kind. Meg, the dog made us feel warm and at home as well. This was the best hotel of our five-night Christmas holiday in Scotland. I would highly recommend it to friends and family.
Breakfast was excellent with plenty of options. Dinner menu is limited but lovely food and they were happy to provide something different from the menu if asked. Hotel is run by a lovely family and staff who go out of their way to make your stay enjoyable. Hotel is in a lovely area, ideal for touring and sight seeing southern Scotland and the borders.
Room was large and everything we wanted from a Hotel in Scotland. Great bathroom too. Breakfast was tasty a good portion size. Staff were very friendly. Professional. Good knowledge. The bar tender on the Friday and Saturday. Really great. Great bloody Mary’s and so patient with a pair of very difficult older ladies that came in for drinks.
Newton Stewart
Very welcoming staff in all departments, working very hard in these post 'lockdown' times. We had an evening meal on all 3 nights we stayed and were happy with the quality and price of the food. The Crown Hotel makes the ideal base for exploring The South West of Scotland. Very happy to recommend this friendly establishment.
Hotel in centre of Thurso. An old hotel with charm. Only 5 minutes walk from beach. The gentleman on reception made us welcome and had a sense of humour. Room was large and comfortable. An excellent Scottish breakfast was served and cooked to order. If exploring this period Scotland staying at this hotel should be considered.
We really thought the location was good as it was easy to catch the tram to town or a train to other parts of Scotland. There is shopping across the way for snacks etc. The swimming pool was a great temperature. The best part of this hotel is the wonderful front desk staff. They were extremely helpful, funny and kind.
I liked the fact that the hotel has a swimming pool. The Scottish tartan décor / upholstery in the rooms was nice and made me feel like I was in Scotland. The full breakfast was nice - poached eggs were perfect! The bar area was inviting and the staff were pleasant. The bed was comfy!
Blairgowrie
I found Kinloch House Hotel spacious, clean, comfortable and welcoming. The staff were well trained efficient and highly professional and the atmosphere was warm welcoming. The hotel is very well situated for visiting this part of Scotland and I highly recommend it to other travellers.
The Argyll Hotel is located in a perfect location in Ullapool with lots of great parking in the back. The pub attached is wonderful and we spent a whole night by the fire with pints. The breakfast was the best we had on the whole two week trip in Scotland and the staff were excellent.
