With the hotel being newly opened, the facilities were spotless. I enjoyed relaxing in the outdoor pool and jacuzzi, admiring the sunset behind the Hira mountains. Dinner was a meat lover's dream, with every course bursting with flavor and perfectly paired wines. The next morning, we indulged in a breakfast made from fresh Omi vegetables, delivered via room service so we could savor it while taking in the scenic view of Lake Biwa. And the staff were all incredibly friendly.

The host speaks good English and explained clearly about everything in the house. The room was clean and tidy, and the futon was very comfortable. I would recommend others to stay here.

Go to Nagahama...
I really didn't find much of interest to do in Maibara. There is a mountain walk with some impressive shrines and temples but more than a day is too long. I went to Nagahama whilst I stayed in Maibara and enjoyed this much more. A word of warning to anyone travelling in Maibara area, JR often get the station announcements on the trains wrong. I got on the train back to Maibara only to see that it said "Next stop Himeji" (2 hours West of Maibara). Luckily an American man told me this is common and it did indeed stop at Maibara. All the announcements on the train LED were wrong on that journey. It is a handy place to stay to see some of Shiga before catching the shinkansen.

It was the best place to stay in Shiga, Takashima and was the highlight of our trip in Japan. We stayed for two nights. The kindness of Fujiwara-san has constantly surprised me. He is very welcoming, attentive and helpful throughout our stay. We even received a beautiful thank you note from the host! It was a nice touch. The place is very clean and the scenery is gorgeous. It was a memorable experience for us. Will definitely come again ❤️

I travelled in a car to Shiga and booked a one night stay at this hotel. The location was very central and there was parking available for customers. I did park at a parking lot next to the hotel parking lot (as this was full) and the staff was very kind to give me vouchers for the parking which meant I ended up parking for free which was excellent. An amazing 4-star hotel located just next to the shoreline, and all rooms have a view of the beautiful Lake Biwa. Right next to parklands and Nagahama castle, and 5 mins from the city centre and old town market street. Staff is always really helpful and polite, the room was impeccably clean, and there is also free parking. If the hotel would have been located in Europe, a room would probably have costed twice as much as it normally does at Kitabiwako Hotel Grazie, and if you travel during the rainy season or similar, you can get a room for as little as £50, which is astonishing! The hotel also got an Italian restaurant, which I can strongly recommend, because it serves proper Italian cuisine to a reasonable price; normally, when something is advertised as Italian food in Japan it is either something that would make an Italian person cry (and not of joy), or you got yourself a proper but exclusive Italian eating place in Tokyo or Osaka that serves delicious food to a very high price and only to the select few. It is rare to get something that is proper Italian in Japan and 1) outside the big cities, and 2) will not ruin you for a simple meal. You know, if you want to take a short break from all the sushi and ramen...
