The host was very understanding and welcoming. He made sure that I had a great stay and I had a smooth transition from check in to check out. The property itself was beautiful. Travellers who stayed in Castries near George F. L. Charles Airport (SLU) have said good things about Bel Jou Adults Only - All Inclusive, East Winds St. Lucia- All Inclusive and Bay Gardens Inn.
This is a small city and therefore very easy to get around. The market is vibrant and truly represents St Lucia culture. One can get a delicious, hot, traditional St Lucian meal right there in the market. The bus system is fairly good and it is easy to get from Castries to other parts of the island.
Castries is a good stepping off point for St Lucia, it is a very industrial town, safe yet basic, clean yet crusty. Some great restaurants, Gobblers, Pink Plantation,Coal Pot and Brown Sugar, none of them easy access but worth the effort
Castries is full of local life but it's not a beautiful city and the sights are few. It can be a good starting point for excursions to the northern part of the island but it is the southern part of St. Lucia that really has the natural beauty. The inequality of the people in St.Lucia is very obvious in Castries which also makes the city feel insecure at night. You really don't want to walk around after dark which makes you depending on a rental car or taxis when you go to restaurants for dinner. The infrastructure of St.Lucia is a challenge. If you rent a car you have to be very careful due to the bad road conditions with plenty of potholes. If you are planning to take taxis around the island it can be very expensive. Be sure to double check the price with the driver before you leave on a tour. The local buses are cheap and the passengers generally very friendly but it will be next to impossible to bring luggage. The best restaurants in Castries are found around the small yacht harbour. Especially "Brown Sugar" is very good with friendly service, great food, nice views and reasonably prices. "Coal Pot" is also good but twice as expensive as Brown Sugar.
Good market in Castries for shopping, but other parts of st Lucia are much prettier to visit I.e souffrie or Rodney bay.
Our location was great i.e. just above the cruise ship terminal and the associated restaurants /bars. However....the rest of Castries was not exactly tourist friendly.
Marigot is outside main town of Castries and not easy to get too as ferry or water taxi the only transportation to hotel.
Castries is a nice town. There are a couple bad areas that you need to stay away from and local bus drivers will let you know about these areas. It is a more touristy spot so expect some locals to try and sell you things like jewelry, trips to beaches, etc. Check out Gobble... this was a great breakfast spot we went to multiple times. Eggs, bacon, toast, delicious coffee, amazing pastries like mini cheesecakes. Definitely go here!
I preferred Castries over Rodney Bay. Rodney Bay was incredibly touristy. Mr Peter Philips was amazing showing us around the island - Highly recommend getting in contact with him. There are no frills but he ensures you are well looked after and see the real Saint Lucia - his mobile number is - 001 758 716 4196.
Castries is a little rough, and very dangerous at night. Travellers should stay in Rodney Bay which is much nicer and tourist oriented.
Although in the town, there are beaches nearby to relax you after the hustle and bustle of shopping in the town of Castries. Great buys and if you haggle enough, you will get a good deal. Lovely wood carvings to take back home. Very talented people. Restaurants around Castries are absolutely amazing and you must try the local food products, which be a crying shame not too!
Castries
The view from the apartment is beautiful, you are able to see St.Lucia in its true form outside of a resort. Buses stop outside the apartment which makes it easy to travel around the island to visit Castries market, Rodney Bay and other surrounding areas. The rooms come with all of the amenities which is super useful throughout your stay, there is a bar next door and shop/bakery one minute up the road. Judah was really accommodating and ensured I was comfortable throughout my stay. He was happy to answer any questions or queries promptly!
Castries
We had an enjoyable stay at Memwa Villa. We were welcomed by Kyle, Luciana’s son, who answered all our questions about the neighborhood and the nearby beaches. The welcome drink was delicious. The apartment was super clean and bright - loved the windows! The bed was comfortable, a/c worked well and everything was great. We were glad for the beach towels! The apartment is about 10 mins drive from Castries. It was great staying at Luciana’s place and wonderful to meet her family. We recommend her apartment highly.
Castries
This place is especially welcoming the host is amazingly friendly and accommodation, place is very safe with bright lights at night and lots of cameras for safety ,also has a bar on site so you can enjoy the amazing view of castries as well, the host also provided a lot of cooking items including bottled water which is hard to find when staying at apartments usally you get nothing ,will definitely stay there again
Bel Jou was made for us by the staff, who were consistently helpful, smart and kind. The food in the buffet was authentic and changed regularly and we found it nutritious, balanced and fun. The Wifi was excellent. Castries is an excellent location for the north of the island. The hotel gardens are beautiful. The hotel entertainments were good. The gym is very good for running weights and floor space.
Castries
Marvey’s Place is a very comfortable and clean hotel at a good price. You can go the capital Castries in 15 min. The service is good, the owner of the place is always there when you needed her. I enjoyed my holiday here whole kitchen and bathroom for yourself, and you can eat of the fruits of her garden.
Castries
Great value. Good communications from Maria and facilitation from Rex but especially wonderful management by Glenn. Big apartment; Free fruit; Regular buses from main road 150 metres away to Castries. Good taxi link up with Sylvester. Air conditioning.
Apartment with a beautiful view. Old forniture that recalls memories between colonial and vintage. Very close to Castries airport.
The host is wonderful! We arrived by ferry, it was delayed and arrived in late evening. Keith arranged transportation for to pick us up at ferry and to Soufriere. Good safe drivers! He was just so helpful and friendly. The property is lovely with beautiful flowers, birds and stairs to the water. The pool is nice and well maintained. Room was spotless with a comfy bed. Highly recommend! Thanks for a great stay!
