Jinja is great. Friendly community. Small and very African. Loved it. The shopping is great, local products at reasonable prices, bought loads of clothes and crafts. Source cafe serves up a decent meal although the wait time can be lengthy.
Jinja is called the "adventure capital of East Africa" - and it is. Something to do for everyone - or simply just enjoy existing and "doing nothing"! The new "Java Cafe" at the Shell petrol station by the big round about when entering town is OUTSTANDING. Great coffee and fabulous food as always in Java Cafe.
Jinja is a pleasant town with friendly people although could be cleaner and more organised. The lake view and river offer unique viewing experience. Source of Nile restaurant on main street is good for snacking and has internet facilities and another restaurant behind Crested Crane Hotel cooks good meals for dinner.
I go into Jinja about once a week for supplies while staying in a remote village. It is an interesting town but beware of Muzungo prices.
People go to Jinja for adventure sports which I didn't have time to do. You can take a (cheesy) boat ride to the source of the Nile. Stay longer to have time to go rafting or a Nile cruise otherwise it's just a city.
Jinja is a lovely town. You can visit the source of the Nile and take a boat trip around Lake Victoria. The different birds you will see is fantastic. Alternatively a stroll around town, particularly Main street is enjoyable. There are some good coffee shops to stop at and lots of shops to explore. Central Market is also worth a visit. The people are very friendly.
Beautiful green part of Uganda. For the travelling Muzungu try The Deli on Jinga Main Street for a taste of home. A visit to Nile Village hotel or Jinja Sailing Club is worth a treat and luxury. Craft shops along Jinga Main Street are excellent for gifts and memories to take home. People are very friendly and you will be looked after well. Enjoy the Boda Bodas!
We helped out with a great charity SALVE International working to help children off the streets of Jinja and back to their families and into school. Easy to get around by motorcycle taxi but helmets in short supply.
Nice place for a weekend if you need some rest and/ or like rafting. It is worth staying in a hotel overlooking the Nile; found the scenery more special than near Jinja town. I ate at the Black Lantern in hotel Nile Porch, which was really good.
Jinja is a overwhelming city growing so there is a lot of dust and traffic. I enjoyed the market visit and a once in a lifetime experience water rafting down the nile.
Jinja
lovely hidden gem within Jinja town. if you are looking for a sweet simple place to relax over the weekend or longer stay in Jinja, then this is the place. the cleanness is 100% with extra clean beddings and towels at your disposal. our host, Miss Junic was always ready to go the extra mile just to ensure we were comfortable. love the simplicity of the compound, security and the apartment. good wifi network, and the kitchen is well stock with good quality kitchenware. the apartment is value for your money!. must visit again while in Uganda.
Jinja
This was our first visit to Uganda and we loved that the house was spacious enough to accommodate all 5 of us.. we're grateful for Brenda for making our stay in jinja smooth by helping us get a Ugandan sim card for easy communication, connecting us with a good driver who dropped and picked us and helped us navigate jinja...she also recommended places to visit and eat out and we appreciate that!! The house also has 3 balconies and I loved that the most. The house was also very clean and the painting were very lovely!
It was a perfect stay at Jinja Grand Hotel, The staff are very friendly especially Amber Angel, she tryed to make us feel at home all the time and helping us when needed and Helen, for her care The room was good, shower was working fine and wifi is available, as well you have a safe parking inside the building I recommend this hotel if your planning to visit Jinja or your on their way and needs a rest
Jinja
I don’t know any other holiday home in a better condition and location in Uganda like this one. It’s a nice adventure to go there, still you are close enough to Jinja to do some groceries. This house, the garden and the huge pool will leave you speechless. Also the caretaker Isaac is very caring and will help you with everything. :-)
I have spent 5 days in this hostel, which is located in a quiet area of the city. The staff was really helpful and nice to me, giving advice on what to do in Jinja and how to move around the city. The rooms are clean and the security guardians at the gate are very helpful too. I would definitely recommend to stay in Bikeventures ☺️
Very decent guesthouse with a nice refreshing pool and good restaurant. Here I had the best breakfast during my stay in Uganda. The room had all necessary facilities and the bed was very comfortable. A very good place to stay in Jinja.
Jinja
Nice place in a calm street. What a wonderful accomodation and thé staff IS very nice and helpful. WE went three weeks in Uganda and Jinja base Camp IS thé best accomodation WE had. Thanks a lot Elisabeth and Frédéric
It is always great being back to Al Nissa. As has been before, the hotel did not disappoint at all. Always happy to be back. It is always nice receiving the bottle of water to cool off after a long drive to Jinja.
Jinja
Perfect for a quite stay..The hotel is a little away from the centre of Jinja, but don't be put of by that. My room was clean and comfortable, rooftop terrace perfect spot for a beer, and the food was great..
Very friendly staff. Hotel is placed in the middle of the city, so a good starting point for tours around jinja. Clean rooms, warm shower and clean bathroom. Hotel is easy up to three stars.
Breakfast was fine and location is good in Jinja, easy to get anywhere. I have stayed at the hotel before this trip and will use again
Jinja
Really modern, comfortable apartment with hot water and facilities to cook. Good location close to one end of the Jinja main street
Jinja
Great location, great staff. Nice to have a hostel for backpackers in Jinja.
Wonderful staff And best view
A little paradise if you are looking for a quiet, relaxing and enjoyable place on earth! An island of birds, very nice and helpful staff, exceptional food all day long, always clean infrastructure and not far from Jinja (20 to 50 minutes by boat depending on the boat and the place of departure). You do not have all day long electricity or hot water in your room, but you won’t miss it because you relax on the pool, in a hammock or are on tour watching the thousands of birds… Same for the infrastructure which has seen it’s best days but all is in good shape, working and clean. You might even just go for camping and sleep in your tent. If you need more entertainment, the hotel staff can arrange you any activity in Jinja and organize the transport.
