Lusaka Town is not very big. for a visitor to Lusaka i would recommend going to Crocodile farm about 50Km along the north road, (1 hour drive from the town) there you will see lot of types and sizes of crocodiles and don't forget to order a crocodile bun. good place to spend a half day. the entrance ticket is about 1USD-2USD There are several shopping malls if you are to spend time (but the activities to do is very limited.) at the moment Mandahill will be the TOP but Eastpark Mall is gaining its popularity exponentially. There are other small restaurants available and Indian Hut in Makeni area is my favorite. (bit difficult to find the place but a taxi can take you there no doubt). There is also another place called Dazzle Grill at the corner of Arcades roundabout you will love their plate "goat-shoulder with Nshima". There are few nigh clubs and 101 will be the most descent of them all. If you love exploring the city do it with a known person. in a vehicle. if you are walking, try to avoid Cario Road and roads from Cairo road to Freedom road and Lumumba Road. If you are new to the city avoid driving in these roads (day or night) as these roads are normally highly congested and full of con men. I would recommend avoid traveling at night alone.
Not too many activities to do. I recommend for lazy Sundays a trip to the Acades Mall for some gifts and a day out to Lusaka National Park. Staff are amazing there!!
Zambia is the wildlife jewel of the world! Lusaka is a good hub from which to go in any direction within Zambia. Taxis are safe and easily available in Lusaka. Go to the national parks while you can still get to see wildlife; it is a privilege!
People travelling to Lusaka must carry clean notes (foreign currency). You have to change your money in a bureau de change and the bureaus close as early as 4pm. Ecobank closes at 4pm otherwise you need to carry you MasterCard or visa card for easier transacting. Shopping- the city has all you need. Malls in and around the city
I didn't see much there was to offer in this city other than local people trying to rip you off and scam you with all sorts of dodgy deals. This was my second visit to Lusaka and both times my experience was very sad. Be aware of scammers in this city
Had a swell time in Lusaka. There are some really cool eateries away from the malls in the Kabulonga area where you can chill n have a decaf cappuccino n do your email while lounging on cosy couches. My fav was the Orange tree but there are many others! Being outdoorsy, I liked that much more than being in enclosed malls. If you're here you may as well enjoy the sunshine!!...from a shady spot with wifi of course!:-)
The people of Zambia are wonderful and kind. The budget hotels are ok but service can be better. Cost of food is high. Cost of staying there itself is a bit high. Bus services are good. Nice coaches to travel to any city in Zambia. Wonderful places to visit in Lusaka like the game parks and Munda Wanga.
Mine was a business trip and like all business trip we hardly get time to explore the city. What I saw was Lusaka has high rate of flea market. You can virtually buy anything on the street at a very good price . Be ready to bargain. People are generally friendly and helping nature. Lusaka has some big malls and super markets where you get to buy all the branded goods found the world over. Lacks in public transportation . Taxi are far and few and very costly.
Lusaka is good if you are with some company. It’s a good city to visit for arts, craft and local jewellery. The Malls are full of South African brands and names. Visit the local playhouse theatre when Barefeet theatre have their Christmas show on. Book a trip to Livingston in the wet season so you aren’t disappointed the waterfall can be dry during the dry season
Lusaka being the capital city of Zambia has a lot of options for shopping, dining and entertainment. We travel there often from our home in Ndola for these reasons.
