“We stayed over Easter and enjoyed taking snow shoes (trygge) walks just a stone’s throw from the property. The staff were friendly and helpful and provided us with a paper map to Håtveitgrendi. Høydalsmo offers great ski tracks just 10 minutes’ drive from the hotel (if you use JPS, go for Høydalsmo barnehage or skule for a stress-free ride). Otherwise pretty much everything was closed during our stay, including Ski Adventure, located on the property. It’s really beyond my comprehension why on earth a ski museum would be closed in winter, only to be re-opened in May. Also the Olympic flame was only visible in the dark. The hotel’s restaurant was the only place to have dinner, since all the cafés and small taverns were closed for the season. Dinners were tasty, even though they followed a strict pattern of main courses. However, with just two days’ stay, it wasn’t a big issue. I loved taking a swim in the swimming pool before breakfast, which was a sensational experience with the view of snow-covered fields and hill tops outside. Unfortunately, sauna was hot just on the arrival day. The two following days, I made do with just swimming in the pool.”
“This place looks lovely. Has everything needed for a good few nights stay. There is a supermarket 2 mins drive, shops and petrol station nearby.
The most amazing feature is the fireplace/wood burner in living room.
Accommodation had everything needed for self catering.”
“Everything. My stay was great and I was surprised with how clean the place was. It exceeded my expectations and as for this price in Norway, a much higher standard was provided. I have received less in hotels, here it was a gjestegård / guesthouse and I was treated like a guest who was welcome and all facilities made my stay comfortable. It’s not only clean, it’s also fresh (I see it was recently renovated), there were multiple cosy rooms, like a stua (day room) with comfy chairs, a fireplace, a place to drink coffee/tea etc. The toilets were meticulously clean and the same with bathrooms. Noises were isolated (though it’s a silent area in general). Once I opened the window, I got much fresh air and the sound of the stream. Views are picturesque from each window. I came to Rjukan just to visit the UNESCO-site, but thanks to this service level I will come back with pleasure, just to relax.
One more thing: I liked the system with the breakfast that was offered. It functioned really well. In the area there are at least three large supermarkets open even during holidays.”
“The common spaces are very generous, offering several separate halls in a traditional Norwegian style, including a warm wood-fired sitting area, featuring a lot of enjoyable art on the walls, adjacent to a bar with the essentials. We always enjoy the spacious rooms for board games and conversations, and there is sufficient privacy. The billiard/pool and table tennis facilities are helpful for social purposes. The swimming pool and the sauna were operational, but we had no time to use these. The breakfast was good. The dinner was OK. We liked all members of the staff, and we salute their gestures for making our stay good.”
“Very friendly staff, a great location with everything you need (nature, supermarket and gas station). The house is cozy, has warm water and is in a friendly neighborhood.”
