Located within Hoedspruit wildlife estate, the location of African Rock Lodge is fantastic. Sander and his team are super friendly and helpful, and the nightly braai is delicious. The pool and bar are the perfect spots to unwind and enjoy a cold drink. It’s great!

First of all, the hosts were very friendly and helpful! Helped me a lot on planning activities around the area. The breakfast and dinner (barbecue) were tasty and full of options. The rooms were big and clean. The property had a cozy atmosphere.

There was lots of ants 🐜 They were all over me after the swim 🏊‍♂️ in the pool, I didn't enjoy my relaxation by the pool. Omelet was too oily please just reduce oil I couldn't eat fruit salad it was full of ants since they like sweet things. 😋 do something with the little creatures Thanks

The place is in central and very neat. The staff was very welcoming and helpful 🙂 I loved the double shower which saves time. They provided us with bath cloth and soaps I was amazed 👏 the bath salt was the cherry on top. Brakefast was ok. I'm most definitely coming back

We spent an amazing night in this lodge. Everything was perfect, great location (possibility to walk in the reserve and see some girafes), nice decoration, very good and healthy breakfast/dinner! I highly recommend this lovely place!

That we didn`t book longer

Everything about this lodge was just perfect for us 4 couples, travelling from the UK for a 2 week South Africa trip covering Kruger, Cape Town and Stellenbosch. We arrived at the lodge after picking up 2 hire cars from Hoedspruit airport after our flight from Joburg. 6 of our friends had never been to South Africa before, so I knew that I had to make sure that their 1st day in South Africa was extra good with their security fears resolved. The location was great, it is on a secure gated park, and the owners will send you a code to show the security team to get onto the park. It is 15 mins from Hoedspruit small airport, 30 mins or so from Kruger Orpen gate for self drive day trips. The staff/family who run the lodge are great. The Breakfasts and evening braai`s (BBQ) are great. The rooms and beds are great, with big mosquito nets over each bed. The area in and around the lodge was teeming with wildlife, as an example just a short 1 minute walk from the lodge entrance brought us face to face with Giraffe`s, Kudo, Springbok. The sounds of an African night whilst staying in this quiet and safe lodge are fantastic. The night sky with the stars and milky way clearly visible will stay with us all. We will hopefully return very soon.

Beautifully equipped and decorated rooms with lovely African/wildlife theme. Room is spacious and the bed large and very comfortable. The fan and aircon was welcome as it was very hot. Lots of thoughtful little extras supplied in the room. Lovely little patio overlooking the bush garden in the wildlife estate. The meals were very tasty with more that sufficient variety provided. Hosts very friendly and welcoming. A lovely little retreat in the bush, and excellent base from which to explore the area.

Two minor issues Lighting in the room isn’t the brightest. Yes, I get the idea of a romantic mood setting but I think there should be an option to make it very bright.

The location, the lodge is within a wildlife estate…within which you can walk, ride a bike, run/jog. The estate is less than 10 min drive from most restaurants and activities in Hoesdspruit The Breakfast, oh, the breakfast… there is a large variety of all food groups - carbs (pancakes,breads,cereals), proteins+fats (eggs, cold meats, cheese & yogurt.) Fruits and veges (whole and chopped fruits plus veges from the hot selection), different juice types, they even had alone milk…. The people…. The owner and his wife were so welcoming and helpful. They sorted out any little issue we had very quickly, helped with activities and restaurants recommendations There are bikes for guest to use, there is a beautiful and clean pool with enough say beds for all guests as well as a a bar onsite The lodge is very quiet, all rooms with a balcony leading into the outside area - you could wake up with animals (antelopes) just outside the door.
