What a wonderful surprise in the middle of the Midlands! Old English country feel hotel on the banks of a beautiful river. Recently renovated, our one night stopover should have been a few days. Excellent food and service. Staff so friendly and helpful. We also treated ourselves with a spa experience! Excellent and a must when you visit this gem of a place!!

What I didn’t like was the fact that I got sick after eating lamb chops that were off and that messed up my last evening at Granny Mouse.

Breakfast was great, delicious and all even the location we loved the view it’s out of this world.

The room we stayed in this time was a disappointment in comparison to the room we previously stayed in, could hear what the person next door was watching on tv! The restaurant staff need training and the chef needs to improve on their sauce recipes! Mushroom and Pepper Sauce were tasteless.

We had an odd experience with booking The Eaves restaurant, the upmarket fine dining restaurant. My husband phoned and booked, and it was a confusing conversation where he was lead to believe that the restaurant was full and that we could only book at 6:30pm or 8pm. We went at 6:30pm. The whole evening there were only 3 tables, two of 2 and our table of 4, so the pressure to book at time was odd. When he phoned to book, and also when we got a tour of the facilities on arrival, both times we were requested make our menu choices straight away. We did do so on seeing the menu on our tour. But when we sat down we were again offered a choice of the degustation menu or the a la carte. It's strange to have to choose your menus before you sit down. Otherwise, The Eaves food was lovely, and a good price. The staff at The Eaves were also very friendly and attentive. On another note, a lot of the main areas look like they could use a little interior design revamp. The shower door in our daughters' room needs some attention, it didn't close properly.

Granny Mouse is a quaint country guest house well know in the area for many decades. It was close to The Midmar Dam where my daughter was swimming The Midmar Mile the next day, so it was convenient. It was good for an overnight stay for us. It was my husband's birthday and they were responsive to my request for champagne in the room and a birthday message on an additional dessert at dinner, it could have come on the actual dessert, but it was lovely to get it. Very comfortable large rooms, and nice bathroom. Lovely breakfast. Lovely views. Very pretty garden.

The water in the area is not clean not that I was drinking but I used it for tooth brushing. Can I suggest that maybe you place small water bottles in the bathroom for this purpose.

The breakfast was extremely disappointing and on the day we left we ended up never getting our breakfast after waiting over 40 minutes for eggs and pancakes. The staff were not too concerned about us at all and the F&B manager did not come to try help speed things up before we got on the road or apologize for bad service. After such a lovely stay we didn’t end on the best note.

The room was so spacious and comfortable with just some little extra’s in our room to make it even better including the turndown service at night! Loved the wine tastings on offer and the staff doing the wine tastings were so friendly and knowledgeable!

The pillows in the rooms need to be changed and give guests the option of a firmer or softer pillow. The wine tasting was really a disappointment as it involved a sparse selection of wines and amaretto. No person who wants to do a tasting wants to have a liqueur in their wine or food pairing. The fine dining experience was not as expected. The Bistro has tastier and better food than the fine dining options. The lamb meal served on the 3rd December was terribly fatty unseasoned and a poor reflection of otherwise good food whilst at Granny Mouse. Maybe the chef/s should look at how meals work together and the combined taste and flavour of each ingredient. My wife paid R100 to make my birthday a little bit more romantic as stated by the Granny mouse staff but we ended up having a swans created out of our used towels placed on our bed with flowers from the Granny Mouse Garden and not roses as was purported to my wife. This was the furthest thing from romantic and more unhygienic than anything else. Furthermore you'd expect Granny Mouse to accommodate a birthday and make it a bit more special with a complimentary cake or cupcake however my wife was made to pay R50 for same.

My wife and I loved the bistro food. Breakfast was exceptionally tasty. The peace quiet and tranquil setting was really relaxing. The place is well kept and clean. The staff are friendly and always ready to assist.

Lack of entertainment on site. The pool water was a bit green and the pools were not very inviting to swim and relax around them. The wood on the pool deck was dry and discoloured, needed treatment
