Each review score is between 1-10. To get the overall score that you see, we add up all the review scores we’ve received and divide that total by the number of review scores we’ve received. We are currently testing a weighted review system in Malta and Iceland (excluding hotel and vacation rental chains). For properties in these countries, the more recent the review, the bigger the impact on the total review score calculation. In addition, guests can give separate ‘subscores’ in crucial areas, such as location, cleanliness, staff, comfort, facilities, value for money and free Wi-Fi. You can review an Accommodation that you booked through our Platform if you stayed there or if you arrived at the property but didn’t actually stay there. To edit a review you’ve already submitted, please contact our Customer Service team.
We have people and automated systems that specialise in detecting fake reviews submitted to our Platform. If we find any, we delete them and, if necessary, take action against whoever is responsible.
Anyone else who spots something suspicious can always report it to our Customer Service team, so our Fraud team can investigate.
Ideally, we would publish every review we receive, whether positive or negative. However, we won’t display any review that includes or refers to (among other things):
To make sure reviews are relevant, we may only accept reviews that are submitted within 3 months of checking out, and we may stop showing reviews once they’re 36 months old – or if the Accommodation has a change of ownership.
An Accommodation may choose to reply to a review.
When you see multiple reviews, the most recent ones will be at the top, subject to a few other factors (what language a review is in, whether it’s just a rating or contains comments as well, etc.). If you like, you can sort and/or filter them (by time of year, review score, etc.).
We sometimes show external review scores from other well-known travel websites. We make it clear when we’ve done this.
These guidelines and standards aim to keep the content on Booking.com relevant and family-friendly without limiting expression of strong opinions. They are also applicable regardless of the sentiment of the comment.

The very friendly and helpful staff, especially the lovely receptionist. The breakfast was outstanding - beautifully cooked and plenty of it. The mini-bar fridge was very useful.

South AfricaBooking.com allowed us to book a room with 2 Queen Size beds, and this fact was stated on the confirmation document mailed through. However, I mailed Kwalala Lodge shortly before arrival to confirm that all was in order, and a return mail stated that no rooms with 2 Queen beds were available, and that only ''kwota'' bed options were on offer. On arrival, a mattress had been placed in our room for our daughter, which was fine, but did make the room very cramped. It is clear that the staff weren't sure of the difference between bed sizes, insisting that Queen beds were smaller than single beds. All very confusing. Similarly, it was insisted on arrival, that our card for payment had been declined. This after having paid a month previously, using the Booking.com app. The manageress printed out the statement, and the card numbers presented to us, were not linked to our own card in any way. Again, lots of confusion. I would suggest that the staff, while very pleasant, do undergo some training.

My wife and I stayed over on our way to Hluhluwe for our honeymoon. The staff treated us to a beautiful romantic breakfast the next morning before we left for the next leg of our journey. Thank you for the friendliness and efforts !! Oh and the pool is beautiful and an absolute pleasure

United Arab EmiratesWe booked two queen beds and when we got there we were only given two single beds and we booked for 3 people and paid R1900 to sleep in two single beds , no shame. We asked for the breakfast we ordered pack for three and we only received 2. The shower drain was blocked and the room was flooded with water. . Staff was too busy for us , they just left us with the key at the reception and we didn’t even know the room number , we had to wait for 30 min not knowing where to go or what to do .
