My stay at this hotel in Koyasan, managed by monks, was an unforgettable experience. The monks' hospitality and guidance throughout our stay were exceptional. The private dining in a traditional Japanese setting was exquisite, and the onsen was a relaxing highlight. Participating in the morning prayer provided a unique spiritual connection. The monks' parting gift added a personal touch to our departure. If you seek a remarkable and culturally rich stay in Koyasan, I highly recommend this hotel.

I spent a night at this temple in mid-January. It was unique. The atmosphere, the architecture, the food, the possibility to participate in goma ritual and the morning prayer. It was cold in the corridors and the temple rooms, but that is normal in those old and traditional Japanese structures. The oil heater in the room did a good job. But the highlight to warm up is the bath! It's just wonderful - a traditional Japanese bath with a wooden tub. What was also very special, was to be served dinner in a room of my own (I was travelling alone). The temple is located right beside the entrance to the Okunoin cemetery - so a bit off the centre of Koyasan, but the perfect place, if you look for tranquility. This temple is also special, because it has a really really long history, and it's architecture is mirroring the architecture of Koyasan's main temple.

Situated in Koyasan and only 39 km from Tama Museum, 高野山 真田坊 蓮華定院 -Koyasan Sanadabo Rengejoin- features accommodation with garden views, free WiFi and free private parking. The air-conditioned accommodation is 39 km from Kishi Station. The ryokan provides a public bath and luggage storage space.

At the ryokan, each unit is fitted with a tatami. There is a private bathroom with bidet in some units, along with bathrobes, slippers and a hair dryer.

The temple is relatively small, but very cosy. They have a beautiful rock garden and a pond with koi fish. The monks and the staff are very friendly. You can attend a 40 min meditation at 5pm and a service at 6am. The temple is located somewhat outside of the city centre (10 min walk) which means that there are no day tourists (only those who stay overnight - still many). I stayed for 3 nights, during the day the temple was very peaceful. I was staying in an expensive room with a private bath+shower and a great view onto a small rock garden, which was very peaceful. Most rooms don’t have own facilities, though, and you’ll have to observe bathing hours (6-9pm) to use the communal baths (separate for men and women). The food was excellent.

Dinner had so many vegan dishes and they were delicious. Breakfast was smaller but still filling. It won't be a western breakfast. The futon ended up being comfy and warm but the halls were cold in the morning. I suggest arriving at the start of check in to take full advantage of everything there is (enjoying the pond, onsen, tea in room while reading the info on ceremonies). Location was great for the big 3 sites, if you don't mind walk 20 minutes in either direction.

Unique experience of lodging in a beautiful buddhist temple. The place has a very special atmosphere. The (buddhist vegetarian) dinner and breakfast were rich and very tasty. The staff was super welcoming and friendly. Good onsen bath. Traditional Japanese-style room (tatami mats and futon beds) was really spatious and comfortable.

The temple, ryokan, grounds, and surrounding areas are magnificent. The staff were very accommodating, and the dinner and breakfast were exceptional. I still dream about their miso soup and pickled- and tempura vegetables. Our room was superb. We enjoyed staying in a traditional setting, wearing a yukata, and keeping warm under a kotatsu.

You are warmly welcomed by the monks who explain the program of your stay. Whilst dressed in your supplied yukata, you eat dinner and breakfast, creating a ryokan feel to your stay. The morning prayer was very uplifting and a wonderful experience to observe. The in-house onsen was an added bonus and very warming.

This temple is particularly good value for money. The futons were the most comfortable in all of our stay in Japan. The monks were very helpful although quiet and austere. We arrived sick so didnt participate in activities. The onsen baths were nice but a long way from the rooms. Beautiful grounds. Amazing amazing food and lots of it!

Staff are really nice and accommodating. Our room is really clean. A great place to experience Ryokan (A type of traditional Japanese inn that typically features tatami-matted rooms, communal baths, and other public areas)and Kaiseki (traditional multi-course Japanese dinner). You also get to experience the morning prayer. Location is also walking distance to some of the tourist spots and a 15-20min. walk from bus station. Excellent experience for us! Highly Recommended!

Staying at the Fudo-in during our time in Koyasan was really special. They looked after us so well and prepared the most amazing vegetarian banquet. The room had traditional tatami flooring and futon beds which added to the experience. The public bath was wonderful. Joining the monks for morning prayer was the icing on the cake. We couldn't have asked for more. If you're planning a trip to Koyasan, consider this for your accommodation. You won't be disappointed!

Very welcoming monks Very close to the bus station and at a walking distance from the temples (careful, you must be back to the ryokan by 5pm) Dinner and breakfast (vegetarian) are delicious and served directly in the room The room was cosy and traditional, with comfortable futons, and yukatas are available There is a large hot tub, similar to an onsen to be shared with the other guests, this is where you shower too (you must be comfortable with nudity) We attended the morning ceremony, a unique moment
