Location is walking distance to main streets for restaurants, shops and bus stops. Whole experience was amazing, really remind me this was a Temple Stay and not a Ryokan. The monks were really patient and understanding for foreigners, tried their best to share their beliefs and traditions. Vegetarian Dinner and Breakfast was also great, simple but flavorful! Tatami room was as expected and more :) Shared bathroom/sento (?), was a first/good experience. Lastly, mornings prayer at 6am, should not be missed. Would highly recommend staying here for an Temple stay experience!

This was the highlight of our Japan tour and we really recommend vist Koyasan.

Koyasan
Located in the sacred Koyasan area, Saizenin offers simple accommodation surrounded by mountains and many temples. Originally developed as a lodging for the temples’ pilgrims, it conducts Buddhist services every morning that guests can attend. Nankai Koyasan Train Station is a 15-minute drive away.
Fitted with tatami (woven-straw) flooring and traditional futon bedding, each room comes with a flat-screen TV and a seating area. A safety deposit box is also provided.
Koyasan is a beautiful area and well worth staying a night. Saizenin is stunningly appointed and the morning prayer was a very spiritual experience. It's right opposite an amazing temple complex which is so busy during the day but you have it to yourself in the evening when the day trippers have left. The monk cadet school is just up the road and being woken at five in the morning with their beautiful mass chanting was also a totally unique experience. The textures of the traditional vegan Shojin Ryori food are difficult for Western tastes, even for those accustomed to Japanese cuisine. But I admire that they have strictly upheld their traditions and have refused to adapt to the potential demands of their foreign visitors. It's an experience.

Beautiful and unforgettable experience. The Monks staff very kind, they accept tourist into their world. The vegetarian food (no meat, no fish, no onion, no garlic) was delicious. We are honoured to be part their buddhist ceremony in the morning. Thank you for everything.
