All rooms overlook Mount Aso, and they are fitted with a flat-screen TV, a mini-fridge and an en suite bathroom with free toiletries. Carpeted rooms come with twin beds, while Japanese-style rooms feature traditional futon bedding on a tatami (woven mat) floor.

Spacious room though there were 3 of us. View from indoor onsen is nice, lucky that Sakura is blooming.

Minshuku Asogen, a property with a garden, is situated in Aso, 30 km from Egao Kenko Stadium Kumamoto, 38 km from Kumamoto Castle, as well as 38 km from Suizenji Park. The property is around 39 km from Hosokawa Residence Gyobutei, 8.8 km from Mount Aso and 30 km from KK Wings. The ryokan features rooms with air conditioning, free private parking and free WiFi.

I can only rate this place as 10/10. It's what you would expect from a Ryokan, and more. Specifically, i'd say two things are better than other great Ryokan, the onsen (private suites with windows that can be opened to "transform" the main room into a rotemburo at will) and the kaiseki dinner, where chu-toro, basashi and marbled beef were on the menu. Apart from an extensive sake menu. Other than that, the owners / team managing it are super nice and helpful. Perfect place to enjoy before/after an Aso trek.

This is a darling little place set in lovely rural tranquility. The beds are comfy (for 2, anything else is futons on the floor and would be cramped). The WiFi was good. There’s a washing machine, which is great for long journey travellers. The sofa is comfortable for relaxing and it would be great for self-catering if only there were any kitchen utensils and basics.

The room was spacious and clean, the futon was comfy enough. Hosts were nice, feels like if you were living in their house (I mean... that's a bit the case). The view on the mountains was super nice. That's a bit in the middle of nowhere but can't complain at all, if you go here it's to be in the middle of nowhere anyway. Still not too far from a few beautiful places (by car). Bonus point they have cute cats.

Absolutely amazing! I have been to over 20 hotel and ryokans this month enough to get me level and 3 of benefits and absolutely nothing compares to it. Amazing style, private onsen. Amenities like free ice cream, sake and soft drinks. Stunning views of Aso. Friendly staff.

    - Staff was super friendly with us, also gave us a quick onigiri meal before leaving by car - The accomodation had a free parking lot nearby - All equipment was clean, feels new, and we had no issue at all, even if we stayed just one night - There is a nice hot spring only 10 min by walk, which is super handy. It gets very dark, but with the lamp given by the staff we accessed it very easily. Also the staff provided a map of with other hot springs. - Beds and room in general is very confortable
