From the check in process, to the check out, the staff always made sure you were comfortable and had what you needed. The location is easy to get to and the rooms themselves are stunning. A big selling point of course was the private bath, but a pleasant surprise was their restaurant. My booking included breakfast and a Wagyu course dinner and both were delicious and very satisfying. For a one night splurge, I highly recommend this hotel.

I would highly recommend Ryokan Tori to anyone travelling to Kyoto. The hosts were warm and friendly and extremely helpful in giving directions etc. Breakfast was delicious. The onsen and tea ceremony were the perfect balance of relaxing and educational. I was not sure if the futon bed would be comfortable to someone used to Western accommodation, but it was actually one of the most comfortable beds I slept in during my whole trip - including five star hotels, etc.
This hotel has got to be my favourite of my big Japan trip. The rooms are pretty and have traditional characteristic themes, emulating Ryokan atmosphere with tatami mats throughout. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful, and I absolutely loved the huge variety of Onsen facilities with free ice lollies that came after, which was a massive treat after a full day of sight seeing. Also their breakfast buffet is next level! This hotel was slightly on the pricier side but 100% worth it. I will definitely stay here again.
The place was amazing, it was our first time staying in a traditional Japanese Ryokan. The tatami mats, public baths, futons, and all the traditional decor was very beautiful. Staff were very accommodating. The two men running the place tried their hardest to communicate with us in English (they're learning! Very cute). Breakfast was so beautiful, was an amazing start to the day. The baths were INCREDIBLE. The best bath I've ever had. Perfect temperature, so clean, the tub was massive. Toiletries and all the amenities were lovely, too.
The traditional Japanese wooden house with the tatami floor bedrooms, very comfortable futons and the private garden view with the camelia blossoms. Amazing breakfast and tea & coffee facilities. The host was really welcoming and provided excellent restaurant recommendations. Good location and easy connection with great coffee and food near by, check out Yoshihara for amazing coffee. The public onsen was incredible. We will be back!
It was a worthwhile cultural experience to stay in a traditional Japanese ryokan, enjoying the beautiful and filling breakfasts each morning and the onsen at night in the provided yukata. The location was about 5 minutes away from the bustling Nishiki Market on foot and just a little longer to other shopping places and bus stops. A 10 minute walk from the nearest station (Karasuma-oike). The service is exceptional - they helped us book a taxi smoothly and quickly when we were in a rush.
A small and quaint ryokan about a 10min taxi ride from Kyoto station. The staff were absolutely amazing and sat us down for treats and hot drinks upon arrival while checking us in. The house itself it beautiful and quiet, we loved sleeping on the tatami mats and the futons were extremely comfortable - there is an option to add extra padding into the bedding too. Breakfast was homey and had both Japanese and western options, loved everything about our stay and will definitely be back!
It's a ryokan in a high building where you get yukatas, bento breakfast (beef is best), futons on the floor and a wonderful indoor onsen. We lived there for 3 nights and the best time to vizit the onsen was at 4 pm or about midnight. We walked to Gyon and Kiyomizu-dera, it took about 30-40 min.
A great ryokan hotel with good location (close to Kyoto train station), amazing onsen. Good for a calm stay to enjoy Japanese spa, eat traditional Japanese food in restaurant and experience traditional Japanese ryokan stay: tatami beds, furniture, homeware kimonos.
This Ryokan is located near several bus stops, perfect to sightsee Kyoto. The JR station is 10 min bus far away. The staff was very kind and warm as a real example of Japanese hospitality. This stay offers also several services like bike rental and onsen free tickets. The location was very relaxfull and quiet. Our room was equipped with tatami floor and futon beds. The room has several amenties, shower and bath tub. It has been a real japanese experience. We loved it!
