It's clearly a city that is growing its tourism sector by building new hotels and restaurants along the coast. The current location is lovely on the beach, and the hotels and restaurants are great, but the infrastructure is still developing (as one should expect in a developing country) so can be a bit difficult to navigate.

Durres is nice to visit for the day if you’re coming from Tirana as it’s a 30 minute bus ride and only 180 lek. However, this is a case of Instagram vs reality, the photos of the beach do not measure up. Unfortunately the beach is riddled with building debris and plastic waste, making it unsafe to walk on barefoot. I would not return and would not come here for a beach holiday.
Sunsets on the beach were nice.

Durres is the largest seaport of the country and the oldest...
Durres is the largest seaport of the country and the oldest city in Albania with almost 3,000 years of history. Learning the history of this country was valuable in understanding the areas where I have been. Albania has suffered much under the cruel 40-year dictatorshp of Enver Hoxha that lasted until 1985. He was an atheist and ordered all buildings of worship to be destroyed. Thus, I have only seen a handful of churches and mosques. The Grand Mosque is located nearby and is a lovely piece of architecture. The calls to worship that come from the speakers on the minaret (pointing in all directions of the compass) are pleasant to hear even if they start at 6:00 a.m. The calls are heard 5 times a day and is a part of every day life.
There are several open air archeological sites within walking distance. Museums were closed unfortunately during my entire 14-day stay. Cafes are everywhere and offer inexpensive tasty traditional food.
It is obvious that the city is very affluent with the influx of tourism. The sidewalks in the centre are made of polished stone. English is spoken or understood in limited degrees but enough for me to be understood. When I pay for an item, I put the small change in my hand and they pick out the coins needed and are always careful to let me know what they are doing. Albanian currency is the LEK although they will accept euros at 100 LEK to 1 Euro.
Durres has been my home for two weeks and it has been a relaxing and enjoyable time.

Durres is on the one hand an exiting city, but on the other too crowded.
The traffic is terrible. High airpolution. Mentality of people different to what we are used to in Europe.
Every body is very friendly when asked for help or support, and a lot of them are speaking broken German lanuage, 90% of the young males lover 3er BMW, the older generation is more or less Mercedes-fan.
All other cars are not cars, but vehicles.
But be careful. Not all are your friends.
The females know two ways of talking only: 1. loud / 2. very loud
Beside the capital Tirana, and the big towns Durres and Shkodar, where people most live, the country is poor, but with a lovely landscape.
It takes more then 3 weeks to discover Albania and its secrets. But its worthwile, once you are retired and still fit and adventoures.

we went to the city of Durrës twice, once by city bus (but inside the bus was very crowded) and the second time we went by taxi. The city was very beautiful and we saw development constructions being done, the food was very tasty, I recommend it to others because they will find what they are looking for in their vacation

We made a visit to Durrës on the second part of October.
We made a visit to Durrës on the second part of October. The weather was still very good. (26-30°C).
The best thing in Durres was the value for money. The food is really good. The fish is super fresh/localy , and this for very low prices. The prices are 3 times lower than in Belgium.
People are very friendly but there English is not that good. The area is safe and the people are honest about their prices.
You really see that it is a country/city in development. There will be old-abandoned buildings next to new ones. And the infrastructure is old or non existing.
There are some old historical ruines in the city. But they are not cared for.
But certainly it is a nice please to visit for 1-2 days.
Orlando and his brother are the owners and they are clearly passionate about providing a comfortable experience for their guests. They were super responsive and got me anything I needed, whenever I needed it. The rooms are tidy and the location of the hotel is perfect: you're in the peaceful part of the beach, away from the city center of Durres. The best part is the view: My room had a balcony and a view of the sea to greet me everyone morning. (I think all the rooms in the hotel have a sea view). I will definitely stay here again.
We had an absolutely delightful experience at this place! The location was perfect, the breakfasts were delicious, everything was impeccably clean and tastefully decorated. Moreover, the incredibly kind and friendly family who ran the place made our stay truly exceptional. Their warmth were unparalleled. And a big thank you to Johann. His helpfulmess truly made our stay extraordinary. This was our last stop during a 3-week trip around Albania, and without a doubt, it was the best one with the loveliest hosts and perfect place
Located right on a beautiful beach. There hotel staff was friendly and very kind. The breakfast was included every day and there were many choices. The water was about waist deep berry far out. It was a vast area so even with many people it didn’t feel crowded. Very family friendly with many children playing and people from all over the world. The rooms were not large but they were clean and there was a beautiful terrace overlooking the Adriatic. lovely vacation spot…Hotel Virginia, Durres,Albania.
The owner and his team was really very kind and helpful. He was in contact with taxi driver and met me at my arrival (yes at 1h30 AM ^^) The apartment is clean, located in a quite street, just 1 or 2 minutes walk from the beach :) The food at the hotel restaurant is nice and you can ask for whatever, the team will do their best to help you and find you a solution. I really enjoyed my stay and will definitely come again :)
My stay at the Adriatik Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. From the warm welcome at check-in to the breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea from my stylish room, every moment was pure luxury. The impeccable service, delectable dining, and well-maintained amenities created a truly memorable experience. I highly recommend the Adriatik Hotel for a 5-star getaway with a perfect blend of elegance and indulgence.
The hotel was very neat and beautiful, they allowed us have a early check in as we were stressed from the journey. The staffs were very lovely and friendly and went above and beyond. The view was amazing and the breakfast was very lovely. The rooms were cleaned properly every day. Special shoutout to Yoni as he was so patient and kind. We all loved this hotel and will definitely be back when in Albania again.
Large apartment, very comfortable, private and quiet. Close to everything and easy to get around. And parking very close!! While traveling around Albania , I have found that to be difficult at times. Jessie is such a great host. He was very communicative, friendly and helpful. He even offered to give me his parking spot if there wasn't a spot near by, but there was. Totally enjoyed stay.
Really unique place to stay in Durres, located in the central location. Awesome view and you can feel as on the ship when sitting on the balcony. Staff was very friendly, professional and helpful - they helped to arrange and even guided us to the taxi. Breakfast was very good and a bit different from what we had in the other hotels, like Albanian alternative cuisine :)
Everything! This was my 1st solo trip to Albania and I could not have had a better place to stay. It made everything so much easier for me. The host was very helpful, friendly, accommodating and so kind. The room was spacious, clean, quiet and close to the beach. I loved staying there and will be definitely recommending to friends who visit Durres!
Nice place, I liked the authentic style (a lot of woodware in the room) and it makes one more impression of the travel to Albania. Kind and lovely personnel, family management style. I visit hotel in the end of season, so there were calm and comfortable. It costs its money, and the portions in restaurant a-la-carte big and tasty.
Breakfast was excellent with multiple hot and cold options. I enjoyed the Opportunity to try several Albanian pastries. The waiter running breakfast was the most attentive and best staff at the hotel. Hotel location with sea view , across from the boardwalk and quick access to all major attractions was perfect.
Hotel is just 500 meters from the beach, there is a tourist road with lots of shops, good supermarkets and veg/fruit shops, plenty. It is 5 km from the city center, hotel is quiet, has parking and an outside kitchen for everybody.
Lots of sitting options inside and outside with tables to eat and relax.
A fabulous holiday from start to finish, a beautiful hotel, all the staff were friendly and helpful, the food is amazing and plenty of choice for everyone. The rooms are amazing with fabulous views. The location of the hotel is lovely, a short walk from the beach.I would definitely recommend Envy hotel.
The hosts were super nice & went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional, even sharing some fruit from their own garden with us — true Albanian hospitality. Probably the best value you will get for your money in Durrës — highly recommend.
By far best hotel in Durres. The location is perfect. Great food and the service was excellent. This was on the top of the list of best stays/experiences ever. Staff was very hospitable and there for every need of mine. Thank you so much.
The breakfast was more then enough with a variety to satisfy you. Great location. I definitely will refer family and friends to stay there. We will be going back again to this hotel on our next visit to Albania.
Everything was perfect as you feel you are at your home. It's really nice feeling where you see yourself is part of Durrës especially at the morning time.
The owner is the best man in Albania :)
Everything was perfect.
The apartment met all the descriptions I read in this post.
I will recommend it to all of you who choose to spend a few relaxing days in Durres/Albania.
The location was great but a shuttle service to the city center will be extremely helpful for all the visitors. The food was tasty and beer is always cheap in Albania.
