This is a very special, small hotel on the edge of Lake Garda. We had a balcony room with fabulous views across the lake and the sound of the water lapping against the shore all night. The staff were warm, welcoming and helpful. It is an incredibly relaxing place to be in. Dinner in the restaurant was perfectly cooked and good value. Breakfast was a varied range of hot and cold food

Small town surrounded by the mountains. It is perfect for bikers. Long rides including perfect uphills and mountains as well. The lake is just perfect for sailing, swimming, boating, windsurfing. Hiking is also a great possibility. Garda lake has a lot to offer. The water is colder on the norther side and warmer on the souther part.

We did not really explore Gargnano at all.
We did not really explore Gargnano at all. All we did in this town outside our apartment was going to a nearby bar/restaurant for a quick coffee in the morning.
It would be unfair for us to judge Gargnano based on our experience.

We stayed in Lago di Garda for a week (one day at a hotel,...
We stayed in Lago di Garda for a week (one day at a hotel, the rest at a friend's villa), and perhaps this review is somewhat negative because we were just coming from a 2-week vacation in Croatia, but Lago di Garda is a bit over-rated.
Based on the unreliable local transportation system, one quickly gets the impression that people (middle-income or lower) without a car are not welcome.
The scenery of this huge lake surrounded by mountains is very impressive and beautiful, however we were very turned off by the fact that there are snakes in the lake! To be fair, on the very populated beaches, there were none to be seen but as soon as you find yourself a less-populated area, you would see snakes swimming around. What we also did not like is that access to the lake is often obstructed due to the way construction was allowed to take place.
From a budget perspective, the choice of restaurants is geared more towards the higher-end, which reflects the kind of people you see vacationing here. What I found annoying were the opening/closing times of shops and restaurants. Expect to have difficulty in finding a place to eat in case you want dinner before 7pm and watch out for automatic service charges.
Based on observation, most locals are rather old and most foreigners are either German tourists or Germans who have bought property here.
My impression was that this is the perfect location for people of a certain age wanting peace and quite in a sunny destination or couples wanting a secluded getaway.
My brief rating would be "beautiful but boring"

Its a place where you just walk around looking at the lovely structures of the houses, the little delicatessen , the small but very modern and classy clothes shops , stop for lunch by the small port and just take in the atmosphere. Tip though, always book a restaurant for dinner on Sundays.

An overcrowded and a bit overhyped place.
An overcrowded and a bit overhyped place. The traffic is a horror show and you will be glad leaving the place in one piece.
In our opinion there are other places with simular views that are better, like Istria, Croatia. (East coast)

The property was beautifully maintained and our apartment...
The property was beautifully maintained and our apartment had great shared space. Swimming pool was great to laze in whilst enjoying the view of the mountain in the background. Lovely touch on the complimentary prosecco! The receptionist and owner were very helpful and quick to respond to our requests and queries. Location is a quieter side of Lake Garda catered towards family and older folks compared to other parts.
Only negative part is the apartment itself did not have bin liners for all the bins and washing detergent & sponge for the kitchen. Additionally the cleaning could be improved (E.g. floors were generally slippery, curtains needs some washing, one of the bed linen had what looked like dust and garden cuttings on it which we didn't uncover until the last night since it was at the end of the bed and underneath the blankets)
- location is out of this world
- greatly maintained
- staff are professional
- dine in was delicious
- room service is excellent
- balcony was great
- an upgrade that assured our privacy was a pleasant surprise
- the lobby is spacious and comfortable
- breakfast was varied and delicious
When you arrive close to the hotel’s location you notice board signs that says 5 stars and a capital “L” next to the hotel’s name I assure you the “L” stands for LUXURY in capital letters…..well done Lefay team
Paola, Sergio and the staff are wonderful hosts. They were kind, hospitable and helped with dinner reservations and shuttling us in the golf cart.
The courtyard is truly a work of art. We enjoyed using the spa and the room was very comfortable and spacious.
Gargnano is a great place to stay, it feels much less touristy than other towns on the lake. The scenery/mountains start to become dramatic here, and still it is not too far to visit the south of the lake.
- the location is quiet and ideal for hiking (plenty of interesting places in and around the village Costa: 'Percorso dei 5 Borghi' and 'Sentieri di Costa' theme walks, Cima Comer (<- best view of Lake garda!!), etc.)
- Lake Garda is a half-an-hour drive from the place
- huge (and delicious) variety for breakfast from local products (ham, cheese, etc.)
- lovely restaurant (with local dishes) next door (no pizza here!!! :P)
- lovely hosts :))
The hosts were very accommodating and picked me up from the bus stop when I was having issues with transportation. The apartment itself is very spacious and has a great view. There's also a washing machine available which was a big perk. If you're looking for a quaint, quiet village, Formaga is perfect for you. We enjoyed the peace and quiet as well as the opportunity to easily walk/hike to nearby villages.
The property was spacious, clean and had everything we needed including a washing machine, dishwasher, wifi, and two fridges and a freezer. We weee there in 36degs and the house was still very comfortable. The location was perfect as was walking distance to both Gargnano and Bogliaco and lots of little beaches by the lake. The small village of Villa had some lovely restaurants and was beautiful.
We stayed at Lefay hotel as part of our honeymoon, from the moment we stepped food in the building we were welcomed by the team there. The whole stay the staff where professional and attentive and there was no stone unturned to ensure we felt happy with our time there.
We felt relaxed and had time to unwind during our time at Lefay and would absolutly go back in a heartbeat.
Amazing hotel! We booked for a night and then decided to stay for one more night. Clean and beautiful garden with a fantastic lake view. Very delicious breakfast and dinner. Hotel staff is very kind and helpful. We enjoyed every single minute in this hotel! Will come back for sure. Thank you so much for amazing holidays, Hotel Palazzina!
Absolutely spectacular view of Lake Garda! Each room had a balcony overlooking the back of the property and the lake. The staff was very attentive and accommodating. Excellent dinner with drinks overlooking the lake. Away from the busier parts of Lake Garda which made it seem very quiet and secluded.
We loved this Hotel. It's a real gem. The Hotel itself is beautifully maintained, the views are to die for and the restaurant and wine selection are excellent. We have two dogs and they were welcomed with open arms. The hotel even has a special area where the dogs can run free. Our dogs loved it.
The family who ran the place us feel like we were more than just guests. Breakfast was very good and we were assisted with everything. Hard to find a large bed in most hotels but we had a nice queen bed. They view we had was incredible and we were walking distance from many good restaurants.
This hotel is a real treasure - i had a feeling of staying at luxury villa, with private territory, closed from the eyes of strangers. Amazing breakfasts, served in the garden! So friendly and welcoming Max and Fancesca, who are always there and ready to help!
The restaurant was great, but then the breakfast was not as good as we expected based on other reviews. Staff varied. Some were extremely nice and helpful while others were just fine. Views are great even if there is that parking lot in front of the hotel.
Location is super nice, overlooking the lake Garda, spacious and clean room, nice patio, parking place on site, great breakfast. The owner Marika and her family are super nice hosts, I wish all my travel experiences could be that pleasant.
We had a great stay, everything was pico bello! Great breakfast and very good cappuccino. Peaceful spot, very close to the lake. The hosts are the reason why we choose a B&B over a big hotel. Nice start of our road trip through Italy :)
This family run small hotel right on the lake was a real highlight of our trip. Breakfast was exceptional, especially when eaten right on the lake front. The staff were exceptionally helpful and we didn't need to use the car!
Spectacular and quiet location with beautiful garden
Good restaurant with very friendly staff
Large room with renovated bathroom and great view
Very good breakfast
Direct lake access as well as hotel pool
location was quieter than other areas in lake Garda, some lovely restaurants 100 yards from hotel, lovely private beach and bar opposite hotel. bus station 10 mins away and boats 15 minute walk away
Beautiful view of Lake Garda. Everything was very clean. That staff did everything to ensure we had the best stay. Beautiful boardwalk with a variety of restaurants within walking.
