Hugging the Ligurian coastline, Genoa boasts Europe’s largest old town and Italy’s largest seaport. As birthplace of Christopher Columbus, its heart and soul is the port, site of the Naval Museum and the ship-shaped Aquarium.
By the old port (Porto Antico) are several bars and restaurants serving the local speciality – pesto. Other Genoese favourites are focaccia and fresh fish from its Mediterranean shores. Don’t miss the homemade gelato ice cream along the seafront promenade – Corso Italia. East of here is the tranquil Boccadasse neighbourhood, where colourful boats bob up and down.
The best city views are from Villetta di Negro, a raised, shady park with a waterfall. Below is UNESCO World Heritage-listed Via Garibaldi, home to the ornately decorated Palazzo dei Rolli.
South is the old town with its black-and-white cathedral and Piazza de Ferrari, featuring a large fountain and historic buildings including the Doge’s Palace. The surrounding area is a maze of narrow, cobbled streets flying the Genoa flag, supposedly where the English took theirs from. Each features bars, restaurants and unique shops, while fancy boutiques are on Via XX Settembre.
As you approach Genova Airport look out for the fortresses on the lush hills forming the backbone of the ‘Superb City’. Booking.com has a range of Genoa accommodation, from hotels to apartments and B&Bs.

You need time to understand and see this city - it is not "open" from the first sight - you have to blend in and find out it is great, very lively and very interesting city. Perfect for many things and activities.

Friendly and not expensive (like Rome). People don't try and con you as a tourist. Only issue is that alomost no one speaks English outside of a few folks, but Google translate can help with that :) Defo take the ferry to Porto Fino and stop at the 2 places on the way.

Genova was a beautiful place to visit with heaps of things to do and visit. We ate at local restaurants within walking distance with everything quite accessible. Only problem was that we were unfortunate with the weather and it was quite cold.

Genoa is beautiful city but this hotel is terribly horribly...
Genoa is beautiful city but this hotel is terribly horribly run down. From the entrance, the lobby, the elevators, the corridors and the rooms it is a total disaster. You should stay there or send someone to spend just one night. It should be off your list of hotels. They have not spent one cent on maintenance in many many years.

We love visiting Genova and return for 1-2 night breaks frequently as there is such a range of activities: museums, historic buildings, beaches, port, food, food, food!
We like how the buses, metro and trains match the timings listed on Google Maps, and how easy it is to purchase tickets by card via the ATM Genova app.
The aquarium and the area around the Porto Antico is a must as there is always something going on, like street performers.

Genoa was a nice looking city.
Genoa was a nice looking city. Unfortunately the two+ hours we wasted trying the find the property greatly reduced the amount if time we had to see some sights we wanted to see. We also tried to go to the aquarium but by the time we got there they were sold out for the day. Having only a half day greatly limited the sights we could see. We did go to Laterna and enjoyed the tour and the history of the lighthouse, the second oldest operating lighthouse in the world.
very clean excellent location under building you have big supermarket, Burger King also train station
very gentle man owner he keep in phone till he meet me and then take us to apartment
very clean , very friendly, drinking water , coffee maker , oven , camera arround building , free Wi-Fi
television , and most thing I like about him is friendly with us even my kids
also he helped us a lot in mid night when I needed taxi as I’m not speak Italy
I recommend even you single or families
thank you so much
The hotel is perfectly located in a shopping area, close to major sites and a few steps away from the old city.
Staying at the Bristol hotel which is in perfect condition is entering in a glamorous past which was replaced by modern hotels lacking soul regardless of their expensive decoration.
Do not use the elevator because the stair case is simply mind blowing. We stayed on the fifth flour and we just could not stop admiring every detail of this amazing building.
The hotel is located in the marina area and near to the old town. The major attractions and good restaurants are within walking distance. The breakfast spread was comprehensive with many local special dishes. The best that my family had in my one week stay in Italy. Please ignored those touts who try to direct you to a neighbouring carpark at the entrance of the car park hotel. Highly recommended.
**WE WERE SENT TO GRAND HOTEL SAVOIA - so this review is NOT about Hotel Continental**
The Grand Hotel Savoia is very nice, super clean, breakfast is superb in the panoramic terrace.
Right off the train station, so no need to use public transport and you can quickly reach the Hotel, leave your things and start sightseeing right away! All main attractions nearby.
We were only there for one night, because we were in transit from Italy to Corsica. The staff at the reception desk were very helpful in providing information and a map so we could enjoy our afternoon in Genoa. They were also very helpful in booking taxis for us to get to the ferry port early the next morning.
Convenient location, AC worked well, pleasant host Stephanie greeted me at check in and had tips on where to go eat, etc . Not luxurious but perfectly serviceable for a quick night in town before heading to the beaches. The price seemed fair given what other hotels were charging for the same night.
Location was very close to train station and flixbus station, so it was easy to carry my baggages until the hotel. Receptionist helped me a lot, to describe the city, and useful tricks like streets which I have to avoid at night.
We liked the room it was really cleaned and comfortable. The stuff from hotel was nice and helped us with parking the car on other site of the street since parking place is a bit small. Hotel is located only 20min to aquarium.
The location in Nervi is superb - right in front of the train station (a great way to get around in this part of Italy) with views of the Mediterranean. The hotel is spotlessly clean and all staff are bright and friendly.
The President is a great hotel with great staff that is in desperate need of a renovation. The rooms are perfectly clean but look like something from a nineties movie. The staff is really excellent and very very nice.
Friendly host, a bottle of sparkling vine in the fridge by arrival. Location near beach, (Spiaggia Sturla), walking distance to Vernazzola Beach and restaurants and the local Coop food store. Two separate bathrooms
- Quality and size of the rooms is really good
- proper breakfast (for italy)
- beautiful hotel and nicely decoratef
- located in a nice neighborhood (very important for Genua!! Dont stay close to the Aquarium!!)
The staff were exceptionally helpful when we parked in the wrong place and then got lost walking to the hotel. They came and found us, and the next day arranged transport to where we did park.
The hotel is good enough for its price. Very central location and we even had a good city view. The breakfast we cancelled because it is really looked poor. But that is normal for Italy.
we had 1 hour to find new place cause our previous place have canceled our booking unexpected. The hotel staff was very polite, helpful and nice, I strongly recommend this place
