It is a lovely town and a great place to stay if you want to explore Cinque Terre. You can combine a hiking/cycling holiday with a beach holiday. The train service is excellent and if you don't want to hike you can explore all 5 towns by train.
Monterosso itself has pleny to see apart from beaches and the restaurants are excelelnt, especially if you like seafood.

This was the best of our accommodations during our 2 week stay in Italy. Marta was amazing and provides shuttles and a good breakfast of granola, yogurt, fruit, pastries and even eggs, pancakes and cappuccino. The views were amazing and the rooms were very comfortable. I prefer a softer bed than what was in the room. However the pillows and linen were soft and comfortable.
Marta goes above and beyond what is necessary and always greeted us with a smile
I would definitely stay here again.
The b and b is up on a hill and a shuttle is provided but we walked back and forth without difficulty into the main part of town.

Attractive village, but split into two by headland (tunnel links the two). All amenities, but slightly spread out. Good (but when we visited, busy) train links to other Cinque Terre villages. Also boat links if weather ok. We found it an ideal base for exploring Cinque Terre, including walking the SVA (Blue Path), albeit walking is challenging. Scenery to die for.

The walk from Montorosso to Vanassari (SP) is very steep at each town with difficult steps.up and down. It is very beautiful but requires excellent balance and footwork for 300 meter of climbing at each town. The towns are special and the food is even better.

This is the place to stay if you have young kids.
This is the place to stay if you have young kids. We travelled with our 5 and 7 year old and we couldn't have picked a better place to go! Of the five towns, Monterosso al Mare has the best flat beaches that allowed my kids to skip rocks, search for sea glass and play in the water safely.
Very near the water is a playground that was clean and well taken care of. There were nice shops in the square with clean bathrooms and yummy treats we could snack on while the kids played.
A lot of people said that Monterosso wasn't as charming as the other towns, but it was pretty charming in the old part as we walked the streets nestled up past the playground.
We came in April and lucked out with weather. I could see how in the Summer it could get crowded and hot, but we felt like the crowds were minimal and the temperature was perfect.

Had a good overall stay, the room was small at first but Nadia was helpful, found a more spacious room for me, only bathroom bit small but from what I heard, Cinque Terre has limited space to cater tourists, so its fine, amazing breakfast, so much choice and something new everyday, the hotel i just few minutes walk to train station so next stop Vernazza is few minutes ride
Also theres a lovely garden on 4th floor, balcony with a terrace and sea view for all customers, in case you get hotel back view, I'd love to stay here again
- Perfect location to visit Cinque Terre, easy to reach from the parking and also from the station
- Lovely room with balcony: bathroom was recently renovated and clean, room was spacious, balcony view was beautiful, the whole place is just super nice, they also have a lovely terrace at the entrance
- Service is great, all the ladies at the reception were amazing! Not common to find such good service in Italy (I’m Italian), everyone was very professional. Also the home-made breakfast was delicious.
Loved the location right on the beach. Couldn't believe we got a huge deck outside our room overlooking the promenade and beach. This hotel was a converted house originally built 100 years ago or so. We rented 1 of its 2 rooms. My husband could have stayed out there forever! Montorossa has everything: great beach, old town, hiking, lit promenade for evening stroll, shopping and great restaurants. Manual was very gracious, friendly and informative. We would highly recommend staying here!!!
We were very well received, assisted with luggage and shown around the premises. Beautiful garden and an onsite bar was nice to have. Most probably the best breakfast we had in Italy, Location was a short walk from the station. Due to nature of Cinque Terre, be prepared to have to climb some stairs and walk up a hill, but nothing too bad. Lots of nice restaurants and shops within a two-minute walk. Close to the beach. Hotel provides beach towels. We spent one night in Monterosso.
We were very happy about the location of the hotel - Monterosso is one of the best villages to stay if you go to Cinque Terre. Even though it was in a pretty central location, our room was facing a smaller street that didn't present a lot of noise. Our room was very neat, clean, spacious and exceeded our expectations. The breakfast was served in the terrace facing the sea and we loved that. Gabriele was very attentive and gave us restaurant recommendations that we really loved.
We had friends who stayed elsewhere in Monterosso and told us about "small rooms" - not so with Hotel Margherita. Generous sized rooms, friendly staff. Reasonable breakfast. Excellent position - 5 minute walk from the train station, up a small incline but no trouble even with heavy multiple bags. After you check out, they can store your bags and there is a toilet and shower you can use if needs be
Hotel Marina is a great location right in the town of Monterossa. Walking distance to all the shops and Osterias. breakfast is served on the upper deck under Lemon Trees and it was outstanding!. After Cruise tourist leave, the town is quaint and not so busy. Not a far walk from the train, which is how we arrived. I would recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay in the Cinque Terre area.
The location was in clean, more quiet spot in Monterosso, which, after visiting a few of the other towns, agreed was the best location in the Cinque Terre. The staff was thoughtful and kind. They let us keep our luggage at the hotel while we toured the area. The breakfast was plentiful and quite good, especially the artisan tarts. Our room for 4 people was a good size and was very clean.
Andrea and his staff were very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. They provided links to very helpful resources with information about Cinque Terre. Additionally, the hotel is close to a municipal parking ramp. A relatively short walk to the main area with restaurants, shops, etc. Rooms were small and basic, but consistent with expectations for a hotel in this price range.
The location of the property was amazing! Close to the station and Monterosso was a gorgeous place to stay. The host, Stefano, was a lovely man and allowed us to keep our luggage at the hotel all day, as well as the use of the facilities and bedroom. The breakfast was very yummy. All facilities were perfectly clean. Our stay was very comfortable. Highly recommend
The price of the room is good for how large!! A lot of space, AC and mini fridge. We got a balcony and it was very nice. The shower is clean and good water heat and pressure.
The hotel is far away considering how small the town is but only about 7 minutes from the beach.
Breakfast was ehhh but there is such good food in Monterosso it doesn’t matter
Hotel in quiet location away from hubbub of seafront, set in beautiful gardens. Easy walking distance to station, longer walk to restaurants and older part of Monterosso. Room very clean and everything you needed provided. Good shower with plenty of hot water. Good breakfast choice and nice terrace for sitting outside. Would definitely visit again.
The location is perfect. Super close to the train station but then also close to the old town of Monterosso. The host was so welcoming and gave us a fantastic overview of Cinque Terre and how to get around. Great value for money for an area that is usually so expensive. Note it is a basic hotel but that is exactly what we booked.
While rooms were basic, they were comfortable and provided everything one needed. Location was perfect; the included breakfast was fantastic / variety of fresh and delicious food; the grounds are beautiful and it was exceptional for having a pool onsite. Would very much recommend this hotel for anyone visiting cinque terre!
The owner and her staff were delightful and very helpful. The room was pretty tight but we expect to be cramped in Italy hotels. The towels were very scratchy. All in All a charming, if not elegant, hotel located in the heart of Monterosso. And it is the only town in Cinque Terra that you can drive to.
The location is fantastic a short walk from the train station, they also have their own beach club/day bed area on the beach, this is needed as the beaches are so busy and the other areas run out of beds. They also have a lovely little outside area for breakfast and drinks over looking the ocean.
The location, the friendly staff, the new and clean rooms. Elena the host was very kind and helpful. The rooms were perfect and the location of this hotel is wonderful! We loved our stay and would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone visiting Monterosso
location is right on the beach front of Monterosso and was perfect for our stay in Cinque Terre. The room had a beautiful view and the owner was super hospitable.
