We enjoyed the company of our tour guides who took us to Isandlwana and Rorke's Drift and explained the battles that took place. Mphiwa Ntanzi and Douglas Rattray were so informative that it felt as if you were reliving what had transpired so many decades ago. Breakfast, Lunch, Tea and Dinner were at Fugitive's Drift. So much food, that a person was putting on weight :) A standard vehicle can get you around Rorke's Drift, but it would be better if a person had a 4x4.

Interesting place to go for its historical significance but otherwise no other reason to visit. No electricity in the museum when we went there - staff could have said. Not much knowledge or interest coming from the museum staff. Asked about a guide and was just told 'No'.

Great base for the key sites in the Zulu-British war with Isandlwana only 30 mins away on a beautiful, untarred but easy road. The ELC Arts Centre at Rorke's Drift is also worth a visit for high quality handwoven carpets and printed fabrics.

I have wanted to visit Rorke’s Drift for many years, having read several books on the Anglo-Zulu wars. Standing on the actual battlefield brings a whole new dimension to your understanding of the series of events that took place here. Paul, a guide arranged through Rorke’s drift lodge was fantastic. His untrammelled knowledge was vast and his passion made history come to life. The scenery is stunning even if you are not into battlefield tours. Not many visitors when I was there which was good.
