It was perfect on my way back home (Plett) from Stellenbosch. It is a perfect location for overnight stay. They were waiting for me even though I arrived only after 19:00. The room was spacious and beautiful with fresh fruit, coffee and rusks. The bed was absolutely heaven. Breakfast the next morning was absolutely delicious. Don't ever go past this gem. It is your home away from home. Will be back soon.

Perfect location, loved the country feel, the fresh air, waking up to the sounds of birds chirping, the neighboring farm animals, the scenery. The accommodation was the perfect size and a true home away from home. Very comfortable and cosy. Lilly, the resident staffi was an absolute charm. We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle.
We just LOVE Somerset Gift! We stayed in Fish Eagle. From the view and facilities to the helpfulness of the farm mangeress, Tanya, everything was lovely. Tanya went out of her way to make sure that we were comfortable and gave us all a very warm welcome (including the fur kids!). There are beautiful waterfalls and rockpools that you can hike to and there is also a river and a dam with kayaks.
There is a huge indoor fireplace for the winter getaways and a huge undercover outdoor braai with dinner table and chairs. We brought board games, cards and puzzles and had endless laughs around the table.
If I absolutely had to moan about something, it would be the pressure of the shower. It is very low and soft - but! ....honestly we were swimming so much it really wasn't a big thing. I just can't think of anything else that was a negative :-)
The wood fire hot tub outside is a super bonus!
We will definitely be back!

What a surprise awaited us.
What a surprise awaited us. This town has a very warm and relaxed atmosphere and we didn't plan long enough to stay and explore all that it has to offer. A one night stop over was not enough. Colonial and Dutch influences in the architecture and a lovely selection of shops and restaurants and places of historical interest, which we simply didn't have time to see, but will be back to explore.

The TV did not work.
The TV did not work. When we checked it was broken and it looked like the lady hosting us knew about it but did not care to mention that. When we call about this TV not working at night she said I quote "Just press all the buttons until something happens sir" we were shocked! In the morning her apology for this also did not sound sincere as you could tell she was well aware that it does not work. Went to the bathroom at night and when switching on the light the electricity blew and the whole place did not have lights for the rest of the night. When we mentioned this in the morning it was a known issue and they blamed load shedding for it.
My partner was looking forward to swimming the pool was GREEN! and quite clearly not been maintained for years. It is nothing like what you see on the listing, you would be scared to even stick a finger in it. It's the type of dirt that you can't see at the bottom of it. We asked for the bicycles they said we could use on the listing and there were only two bicycles, the one had a flat tire so we couldn't use it. The other one that we had to share was not maintained well and also had a chain locking the whole time. We were just shocked that there are only two bicycles available for guests.
The Restaurant on the other hand was a pleasant experience. The gentleman hosting is very friendly and authentic it's amazing. The food is value for money as well. Had one of the most amazing meals the free breakfast is also good value and a proper meal. Wifi good and the music is lovely and the place all together has nice indoor and outdoor calming seating. We could come back for the dining experience it was exceptional. My partner and I spent the week talking about how calm and authentic the gentlemen hosting us were. He was just an exceptional experience I can't stress enough.
In summary, we would come back to dine definitely!. But to sleep No, don't see how they justify the cost for it as well.

In the past I always just passed Swellendam on my way to another destination. This time I spent three days and what a beautiful historical town it is, surrounded by the Langeberg mountains. Friendly people and excellent food especially De Vagebond restaurant where we also had the opportunity to watch the rugby during loadshedding and experienced the lovely Ostrich meat dishes!
One of my favourite hotel stays. We had a lovely time at Schoone Oordt, the owners and staff were so kind and attentive, the house and room were gorgeous, and we had the most delicious breakfast. The bed was very comfortable, and it was such a treat to have a fire and hot water bottles in our beds on a cold night. Swellendam as a town was really lovely, and we had excellent meals at the cafe and restaurant recommended by our hosts. Would definitely return.
What an amazing experience at an awesome place! Surrounded by a breathtaking view of the farm and pool area. Love that there's activities indoors to keep busy. From the bathrooms to beds so comfy, wonderful. I can go on and on. The Manor house is even better than the pictures posted on this site of the place.Definitely returning and definitely worth that gravel road! Thank you so much for having us. What a friendly person Sonja is. All the best
Loved the hosts, loved the property, loved the location!
our room was delightful especially the attached balcony overlooking the lush gardens. Oh and did I mention the delicious breakfast? fresh picked mushrooms, homemade preserves, fresh squeezed juice. hosts had great suggestions and made reservations for us for dinner and golf. also wanted to mention the City of Swellendam has a very chill feeling. safe to walk even at night.
What a gem! The host, Hector is an excellent host seeing to our every need. The special touch like the homemade biscuits and hot chocolate, showed the great care that was taken to make guests feel at home. A book with all the information of the town and area, made good reading. Beautiful garden with the bird feeder was so special. The bed was super comfortable. We can highly recommend this establishment.
The house is beautiful and the living areas are spacious. The beds were very comfortable and all had electric blankets. There is also large fireplace that was great on the cold nights. There are hikes into the nature reserve directly from the farm. We really enjoyed our stay and the kids especially enjoyed seeing the animals on the farm.
This property is well kitted out with everything you need to make your stay comfortable. It is very well thought out.
We we’re there on a very cold an rainy day in Swellendam and the fireplace was absolutely magical. We were very cosy.
Beds are big and comfortable.
Probably one of the best overnight stays we’ve had.
The peace and quiet was exactly what we were looking for. We grew up on farms, so this was perfect for us to feel at home and relaxed. Excellent walking on the farm, plenty of braai wood and everything you need for mozzies and loadshedding!! The farm is well situated to explore the area.
Great location in the heart of Swellendam, clean, and if it had been summer, a nice pool area. The staff were friendly.
We weren't too pleased with the arrangement of the rooms, but then, the price was very good, so we didn't feel hard done by.
the Hotel is one of its kind, old and classic in a nice way.
It was on our honeymoon and we had to make a stop in this lovely town during a trip through the garden route. my wife and I loved the experience, and had a pleasant stay.
Everything was clean, staff was friendly and welcoming. Really a great location for kids and likewise adults.Selwyn Beauty of the farm and quiet surroundings was much needed.kis enjoyed the pool area. Will definitely return
