Another favorite is the iconic Taprobane Island, accessible at low tide, offering a unique glimpse into a secluded and luxurious retreat with its lush tropical gardens and historical mansion.
Dining in Weligama is a delightful experience, with a plethora of options ranging from local street food stalls serving delectable seafood and traditional Sri Lankan fare, to more upscale dining experiences by the beach, where you can enjoy fresh, grilled seafood while watching the sunset. The Roti Shop, a quaint local eatery, is particularly notable for its mouthwatering selection of rotis filled with an array of flavors, providing a taste of local cuisine that's both authentic and affordable.

Relaxing beach for surfing, beach walks, beach games & family time together.
Safe beach area & you get lots of nice cafes and restaurants to try out with a good range of food & drinks with music to enjoy. We really enjoyed Ceylon Sliders as our brunch spot & Cheeky monkey for dinner with some super cool music. Kurumba bay is super cool too for a range of food choices.

You go to Weligama to learn surfing, or otherwise use the beach.
Otherwise the place is maybe a bit too chaotic, dirty, and loud for European travellers ;)
There is garbage collection, but still a lot of garbage is lying around and ending up in the sea.

Weligama is small town.
Weligama is small town. We lived little outskirts in rural area, Weligama is cheaper than other distinations such as Mirissa nearby. However if one needs to party and need restaurants then you cannot find many at Weligama.
We were looking for quiet, relaxed and comparitively cheaper 15 days break between our two months vacation and Weligama helped us with same. Mirissa beach is more better and lively than Weligama Beach. However small section of beach near Cape Weligama resort via Kumbalgama junction is quiet and peaceful.
Having your own or rented vehicle is definitely plus point or else one has to hire Tuktuk to Mirissa which may cost 1000-1400 LKR To and Fro dependinging on your bargaining skills.
Once can definitely go to both mirissa, unwatuna and galle from Weligama on day excursions.

Weligama beach itself is very crowded and not very clean; however, there are amazing and practically empty beaches just a few minutes away. Options for restaurants like almost everywhere is a hit and miss, but I did find amazing and varied options for very good prices.
We loved everything about Marriott.
This was our honeymoon trip. The moment we saw the room we were fascinated by the spacious room, lightning and breathtaking ocean view. We stayed for four nights and, surprisingly, we had something new everyday to try..food was amaizing and the staff were super friendly.
To be honest, that is the best hotel experience I have ever had.
I must say, both foreigners and locals were equally valued and treated.
Highly recommended for everyone out there to have a fabulous holiday experience with your loved ones.
The view overlooking my room was fantastic! The bed was big and comfy too. Danushka went above and beyond to help with my needs while staying in Weligama. The location of the place is a bit of a walk going over to the main road, I would recommend renting a motorbike if you would be visiting the central town and Weligama Bay frequently where majority of all the cafe's/restaurants are. The neighborhood is quiet and the people are friendly. The WiFi here is fast compared to the rest of the places Ive stayed in Sri Lanka.
The breakfast, lunch and dinner were all great. The hotel offered a great variety of options including the restaurant Tides and in-food dining which we used. If you are a fan of yoga the hotel offers yoga sessions twice a day. There are two swimming pools, two kicker tables, two tennis tables which we played. The ocean view is gorgeous. The room is huge and has everything one needs. Staying at Marriott Weligama was the best decision of our vacation.
O2 hotel was great stay.clean rooms ,comfortable beds, nice rooftop view.hot water ,AC ,TV and fast Wifi connection were included all rooms. The staff were exceptionally good .very near to weligama surff point.good location .very good breakfast ,lunch and dinner at economical prices.food was very delicious. They have absolute best white sauce and french fries 🍟thanks for a wonderful hospitality.Highly recommended .Definitely coming back..
Romi..
The size of the hotel is good and the view from the balcony is scenic. Rooms are maintained and clean.
There is a small restaurant area offering a selection of food and drinks.
Lounge area on the top floor very pleasant.
Staff was amazing and helpful whenever needed (always giving some recommendations)
Quiet area and not far from Weligama bay.
Tuk-Tuk to Weligama bay : 500 lkr
Tuk-Tuk to Mirissa : 1000 lkr.
We booked the hotel last minute and got immediately our rooms. I really liked the rooftop of the hotel with nice view on the sea. The location of the hotel is perfect if you are looking for nice and not overcrowded beaches within a 5 minute walk. The bed was huge and the breakfast was delicious (Pankcake, typical Sri Lankan dishes). Everyone was really friendly and helped me in case of questions.
fantastic experience! The room was not only spacious, comfy, and impeccably clean, but the added beauty of a river view made it truly special.
The air conditioner provided fresh air, and the bathroom was spotless, emphasizing the hotel's commitment to cleanliness.
Outside, the relaxing garden added a serene touch to the stay. Reliable Wi-Fi was a plus. Highly recommend for a perfect stay!
I am Korean and I have been living in Sri Lanka for 4 years. Living here, I obviously have a lot of experience. I highly recommend this place. More than anything else, I was very impressed by the owner's consideration. It is difficult to find such considerate people in Sri Lanka. If I visit Weligama I will stay here again. And they provided the best service they could during my stay!!!
This hotel is such a good place to stay. it's near to the beach, a lot of restaurants are around it. you even don't need a tuk tuk. there are only 7 rooms, so it's rather quiet place. the internet is so good for Sri Lanka.
the best thing about this hotel is their manager. He is so helpful!
They have around 5 different breakfasts, not only eggs like around other hotels in Sri Lanka.
I was planning a fee days and ended up staying more than a week. I felt so comfortable. I was at home. Irish, the owner, would come everyday to check we were good, cleaning the common areas, checking if we needed something…
He would stay and tall with us. Felt like a friend. I was sad when leaving and if I visit again Sri Lanka, Weligama Bay House is my comfort place.
Located rather outside of Weligama center, I consider it be an advantage, as the central area is way too noisy. The hosts were very nice, the room was clean and freshly refurbished. Private parking for bikes available at the hotel's ground. The room's light, the bed is soft, hot water in the shower. Good breakfast which includes local food.
The location is great - just in front of Weiligama surfing point. The room is very nice — king bed, conditioner, hot water. it’s also has a wide space in bathroom. The staff was very friendly and helpful, especially Weere, manager of this hotel. For breakfast you can choose from 4 options, and pineapple pancakes are delicious!
first of all the staff was harm and helped us anytime and about everything! room was new and clean all the time. The hotel located at quiet area just near the main road. Breakfast was delicious !! Highly recommend the avo- smash! We really did best time at Scenic Bay! For hiro and all the crew - thank u big time!
The hotel is beautiful. From room, to pool, to grounds, and the beach everything was great! Staff was welcoming and worked to make sure my stay was excellent. Had a check out in the middle of the night and they offered to pack me a to go breakfast without me asking.
Very nice and brand new hotel/ hostel with super nice and care-ring hosts! Makes sure to be there Monday’s to join the family curry night. Super delicious! It is only two steps away from the beach and within walking distance to everywhere in Weligama.
This is the best stay of Holiday in Sri Lanka cause they gave us good hospitality by providing High standard service ,it was amazing with scenic bay crew , its very close to beach and city center area as well i would highly reccommend this hotel
Amazing hotel, with private pool, healthy breakfast and comfortable rooms. Great value for money . Very friendly and helpful stuff, personal thank you to Sanjith who helped with everything.
The hotel was right on the beach- walking straight into the water. The breakfast was good if you order the Sri lankan one. The pool is amazing. The staff was very easygoing and helpfull.
This hotel was one of the cleanest hotels we stayed in Sri Lanka. The hosts were very friendly and sweet. The hotel was very close to the beach. We highly recommend.
