The offered breakfast for Y1,000 was fantastic. Filling and a range of Japanese breakfast offerings. Location was good, with a bus stop right on the corner of the hotel location. Bus could take us into the city centre or up to the snow lifts but stops at 5pm, keep that in mind. Host was fantastic, always friendly and helpful service.

Shinazawa, hotel in Nozawa Onsen

Situated within 32 km of Jigokudani Monkey Park and 41 km of Suzaka City Zoo, Shinazawa features rooms with air conditioning and a shared bathroom in Nozawa Onsen.

The accommodation is lovely, with spacious rooms, comfy tatami beds, and traditional pyjamas provided. The staff is super friendly and the breakfast is excellent. There's an onsen onsite and other options nearby. An excellent dinner is available at a reasonable price. Also, Tommy's Burger is across the street. I read that some people commented on the location not being good. I'm not too sure what they were expecting. It's only a 15-10 minute walk from the ski field, and some equipment providers let you store your gear at the base, so it's a pretty easy walk. I highly recommend this accommodation and would definitely stay there again.

Nakajimaya Ryokan, hotel in Nozawa Onsen

Nakajimaya Ryokan is a 5-minute walk from Nozawa Onsen Bus Stop. The bus stop is a 25-minute direct bus ride from JR Iiyama Station.

Modern, newly refurbished (with a lift!) yet still keeping to the traditional Japanese elements of a Ryokan. We loved that they offered a semi raised bed. Bedding was really comfy and our room was really spacious. Didn't have any issues with the in-room amenities at all! Amazing variety of local breakfasts every morning and great that you could have your own private breakfast area. Loved the samue provided and that it was refreshed daily! Onsen was kept very clean with a lot of amenities (spent a lot of time there!) Discount off ski passes & ski equipment if you're a guest here so you don't need to book your equipment in advance - just get it when you're there using their discount! Thank you to Yukiko-san and her family for opening their home to us and being so helpful.

Nozawa Onsen was readily accessible by fast train and a bus...

Nozawa Onsen was readily accessible by fast train and a bus. The Village had good amenities including a variety of eating venues. A free shuttle bus went around the town and to the ski fields every 15 minutes. The ease between getting between the Village, ski fields and accommodation was exceptional. There was even a travellator for going up to the snow and back to the town. The snowfall was excellent particularly as our visit was late in the season in mid March.

Amazing ski resort with great snow and very friendly personnel. Everything worked nicely and the small town center is lovely. Streets can get narrow so make sure you have parking in advance if going by car. Also check distance from ski lifts.

Beautiful, clean inn with wonderful hosts.

Beautiful, clean inn with wonderful hosts. Great common premises, especially the kitchen, which is great for breakfast (you can buy coffee pods at cost from the host). The futons were very comfortable. We hope to return! Recommendation for future guests: try to make reservations for restaurants for your entire stay once you arrive (and the inn staff can help) to avoid lining up in cold weather.

Stick to businesses owned and operated by local Japanese. Those owned by foreigners are often over-priced with inferior service....sure you might get to speak English, but stay home if that's important...;)

Our room was amazing - super spacious, beautiful views, authentic Japanese feel with futons and tatami mats and the temperature was perfect. The location was also impeccable - 2 minute walk to the ski resort and ~5 minute walk to many cafes/restaurants/onsens etc. Nice and spacious communal area with comfortable couches and lovely views. The Japanese hosts were very friendly and helpful. There were no regular private showers but instead a public bath on site - lovely after a cold day skiing. It was also very quiet.

The hosts are beautiful and friendly, spoke great English and were very helpful. The Japanese breakfast was tasty, healthy and different each morning. There is a public onsen very close that is really hot but perfect after a day skiing. Very close to the local bus to the slopes or a 15 minute walk uphill. A 5 minute walk to the main bus stop and information Centre. 10 minute walk into town. Nozawa Onsen is a wonderful and Togoro a perfect place to stay.

The Host Saiko was so wonderfully charming, and kind and accommodating. The lodging was authentic, traditional and relaxed. Very convenient location- couldn't be improved- right by an onsen and the ski travelator in the middle of Nozawa Onsen. Delicious breakfast and dinner. Wonderful staff, Diana also did everything to ensure a smooth journey with any issues we had easily sorted. Heater in the rooms very useful as rooms can get quite cold in the Winter.

Our favorite hotel in Nozawa, stayed there 3 times already. It's a little further from the center, but staff is really helpful and ready to give you a lift, plus there's a ski shuttle stop just outside of the hotel. Comfortable western style rooms with private bathroom, good value for the price compared to the other places in the area. Tasty hot breakfast is included in the price as well. Will definitely come again!

The staff, location, and cleanliness of Marushige was excellent! Everything was very organized and the shared bathrooms were not an issue as they were very clean and easily reserved. The feel is quite traditional Japanese with floor mats for beds and slippers provided for indoor use, but provided that's not a dealbreaker I thought it was a wonderful place to stay

I went with friends for a ski weekend in Nozawa Onsen and we wanted a decent lodge at an affordable price. Lodge Matsuya exceeded our expectations. It's a simple place, but well maintained and comfortable. The proprietors were very nice and even reimbursed charges through the Booking.com site for one person who had to cancel at the last minute

Fantastic location balanced nicely with a short uphill walk to the gondola and a short downhill walk to the main part of the town. Room was larger than I expected for Japanese mountain hotel. Large drying room for both gear and clothes with a separate street side entrance. Easy to use large parking lot next to the Hotel.
