I attended a conference at the AICC and for convenience I ate my dinner at the Mount Meru Hotel. I enjoyed the safari to Tarangire Park and had a lovely goat and lamb BBQ at the local Kwa Mrombo (a street full of BBQ goat meat in Arusha).

Arusha is not a pleasant place, on the very dirty crowded streets there is non stop people grabbing and talking to you all wanting money, we had one person tell us about his mother in the hospital and wanted us to pay her bills. Arusha is a means to a safari and that is it.

Arusha is a busy city.
Arusha is a busy city.
I have visited old German Boma which was converted into Natural History Museum.
Seen also Arusha Declaration Monument and Clocktower which they claim it’s located in the middle of Africa or let say in the middle between Cairo and Cape Town.
They have some supermarkets like Shoppers Supermarket or AIM Mall on the way to Arusha Airport.
East African Community HQ and Heritage Museum.

A typical African city, colorful with open local markets and malls, safe to walk around and very friendly people. Ideal location to start your safari because most safari organisers start safaris from there. I’ll definitely visit Arusha again.

Great city to stay in.
Great city to stay in. Definitely the safari hub; at least four major safari destinations (Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti and Ngorongoro crater) within a day's drive. Lots of great (if sometimes challenging) hiking to be done in the foothills of Mount Meru and the Kilimanjaro (or climb the mountains if you feel like it).
Easy access through Arusha (domestic) or Kilimanjaro (international) airports. Taxis are cheap, but make sure you agree on a price beforehand,

Good variety of shops and interesting cultural and heritage...
Good variety of shops and interesting cultural and heritage centre. Convenient place for starting point for safari. Views of mountains/hills at times. Climate not too hot. Maasai market interesting.
Loved this spot - away from the craziness of Arusha but also easy to access by dala dala (plus a short motorbike trip - they will be waiting to take you but be prepared it is a very very rough road!) For the price I was very pleased with my private room, the property has lots of space to explore, and it is easy to organize many activities. I enjoyed chatting with the other guests over 7pm dinner and afterward at the outdoor fire pit. Small shop to buy drinks / snacks opens at 4pm, free bananas any time, and water refill as well!
Planet Lodge is super convenient, being on the outskirts of Arusha centre, on the Kilimanjaro side. It takes about an hour to get there from the airport. The staff were extremely welcoming and very happy to help. I stayed the day before embarking on my safari, and for two nights after the safari. The hotel is very quiet, and felt very safe. The bedrooms are nice and meet all your needs. Having a pool is a plus (although it was quite cold), and the food was generally very good.
The PEOPLE working there are the nicest people we met! They are all so friendly and willing to assist with whatver you need! We felt like family! Home away from home!
We really enjoyed our stay (4 nights in total!) and we highly recommend this hotel to everyone who wants to visit Arusha (located about 15 mins out of the city, but the hotel can arrange easy and cheap transportation to the city!) And make sure you try their food!! They cook delicious! :)
Idyllic hotel with lovely surroundings. This was our first stop in Tanzania and we were made to feel very welcome. Loved the food (very reasonable at around £3 for dinner and less than £1 for beer). Our double room was clean and comfortable, excellent for the price we paid!
Would recommend hiring bikes for the short cycle ride to Lake Duluti - we really enjoyed exploring the surrounding villages and spotting beautiful birds and reptiles on the lake.
The hotel is very nicely decorated in real hardwood. The room was spacious and clean with a big comfortable bed.
The outside has a very nice garden that's good for enjoying the breeze and relaxing.
The restaurant was very good for dinner and breakfast.
The staff were all fantastic and friendly and made for a wonderful stay.
I will be staying here any time I am in Arusha and recommend it as a great start or end stay for safari.
The staff was amazing!! So friendly! They recommended an excellent place for dinner right near by and even walked us there. We were leaving really early the next day and they kindly woke early to pack us breakfast for take away. The room was so cute, plus there was an outside fire pit. We only wish we had gotten there earlier so we could have enjoyed more time there. We would definitely book again next time we’re in Arusha!
The location was just perfect, not far and not close to the city center. Amazing hotels along the way. The house itself was clean, beautiful and had a lovely garden for outdoor sitting. The host was the perfect help throughout the stay. Recomended a lot of good places to make our stay memorable.
Loved it and would definitely go back again when a chance arises.
Staff was the main reason I rate the property as 8 but the product& facilities are totally away to name it as a hotel. I would like to recognise Moses the manager/ Neama in restaurant/ grace the HK they were doing their best to make sure the guest are happy even though the hotel condition/ product status were outdated and not valid for guests by all means
The Vijiji is a lovely boutique hotel with beautiful rooms, a refreshing pool, gorgeous gardens and delicious meals. The staff were all welcoming and kind. Activities are also offered and I took advantage of a local walk in the villages which was beautiful and informative. Great place to stay near Arusha.
great location, very nice staff, very clean place. If you are expecting luxuryous accommodations, this isn't the place. It is pretty good value for money. they arranged airport pick up in Arusha, drop off at Killimanjao and the driver was on time, vehicle was in great shape and it was value for money.
I like to think of this place as a bed and breakfast or boutique hotel. It is a small cute hotel located off a dirt road about 15 - 20mins from Arusha Airport. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Food was cheap and nice. Location was in the middle of town with so many businesses nearby.
Charity Hotel provided outstanding value. I mainly needed a place to crash in Arusha before getting picked up for my safari, and the hotel was perfect for that purpose. There was a pleasant garden though no other amenities. Service and Wifi were acceptable, especially at the price point.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was large and the bed comfy.
The location was great as it's very close to the Maasai market and the city center. After dark the area felt a bit scary but the hotel itself felt pretty safe as there was a guard and some guard dogs.
The hotel is beautiful. Definitely one of the top in Arusha. We were travelling for a honeymoon and we got an upgrade, which was a beautiful gesture. The room was comfortable, clean and stylish. We dined in the bufet restaurant and the quality of food exceeded our expectations.
The hotel is probably a good stopover in Arusha on the way through to Serengeti... For work however, it's comfortable (the room turned out to be an entire apartment) but pricey. Breakfast and dinner is ample buffet but uninspired.
Great luxurious rooms and located close to Arusha airport. There were 2 restaurants that served Western meals as well. The staff prepared breakfast boxes for us to leave at 5am. The beds were very comfortable.
Very new, Super clean and comfortable.
The owners, a young and energetic Tanzanian couple have created a lovely peaceful setting. Great if you need a rest between safari travel and visiting the Arusha area.
