Everything! Absolutely everything! The place is a piece of heaven! Don't think of going to any other hotel in Zanzibar. The staff here are exceptional. All of them. Frank at the reception is a true gentleman; he knows what the guests like, and he makes it ready even before I ask. Regina at the restaurant makes your meal an unforgettable experience. She is always smiling, and she gives all her heart to make you happy. Irene is like another sister for me. So kind and respectful. Also, the guys at the restaurant and the guys who take you to the shore by boat. True gems. This hotel is all about the staff. For me, they were family. I love you and I will return.

This is a very private boutiqe hotel, with just around 12 rooms - about 6 were occupied while we were there. It felt really private.
Breakfast is a la carte, with many options.
Staff was constantly cleaning and doing small fixes around the place. It was always stunning and spotless.

Pongwe is an isolated beach, at low tide the sea is very far away and, even at high tide, it is very shallow - you cannot swim. Kiwengwa beach, next door (10 minutes by car) is much better, more lively, with many shops and good hotels.

There is not much to do in the local area other than visit other hotel resorts. We did visit a local school to make a donation and I would advise bringing something with you to donate e.g notebooks, sweets, money

Small remote holiday village with the white sand beach but not having good beach maintenance (seaweed, some dirt on the beach). Little bit far from anything in Zanzibar (far from Stone city and airport, far from spectacular Nungwi and Paje beach). No bars, restaurants, shops and infrastructure outside the holiday resort due to remote location and low density of tourists.

At first sight you can say....what to do here ?....no shops, just some local fruits selling points, no crowded areas, less traffic than anywhere but more nature than anywhere around. It's exactly the opposite comparing with Paje. If you need a quiet, family friendly, uncrowded spot.....ask for Pongwe. And if you want to understand why I'm saying these....just go on Pongwe beach when low tide is there.

I did not visit Pongwe town.
I did not visit Pongwe town. I stayed in a luxury boutique hotel north of the town as I like a quiet holiday. The only problem was the tide leaving an unattractive expanse of muddy rocks. The hotel's pontoon helped with access to the sea when the tide was high.

The accommodation and restaurant in Weavers Lodge was outstanding and the beach was idyllic. The tide tends to be out until about 3pm (July/Aug stay) and there are some sharp rocks - if your feet are particularly fragile, water shoes are a good idea. We cycled to the next village - an enjoyable afternoon trip. Very friendly locals.
Amazing place! Probably the most beutiful place where ever I stayed. Direct access to the beach, the atmosphere was so calm and relaxing, we just chillin on the balcony for hours every day, listening the sounds of the silence. I felt if Im dreaming many times. The suite is literally few steps from the ocean.
Beautiful hotel and wonderful employees who helped us in every case. I recommend it to everyone who appreciates peace and quiet.
I'm a travel writer and have stayed in beautiful hotels all over the world, but I have never experienced the level of hospitality and warmth that I received at Pongwe Bay Resort. The room was exceptional and very comfortable; I felt extremely safe there as a solo woman. The food was all top-notch. And at every point, there were employees who wanted to make sure I was having a great time. My only regret is that my stay was too brief.
Very friendly, helpful staff. Amazing food, quiet - perfect for families. The villas, pool and restaurant were all stunningly beautiful. The grounds were kept looking pristine and gardeners were out every day helping to keep things tidy. Our room was cleaned every day and our beds turned down every evening. The hotel managers were really helpful when advising us on trips around the island and places to visit.
Everything was perfect. The Hotel and its facilities are amazing. The room was perfect. The staff were absolutely wonderful! We informed them that we were visiting Zanzibar on our honeymoon and they made sure that we had a memorable stay with them. From the room decorations, to the delicious food and great hospitality of the staff; everything was perfect. Special thanks to Chef Mubarak, Janeth and Esta :)
Very relaxing and confortable boutique hotel on a private island in Pongwe bay. The cousine was excellent, the atmosphere very charming and the staff amazing: in particoular I want to thank you Margarita, who warmly welcame and assisted us during our stay, and Frank, who teached me Bao (local game) so well that by the end of the holiday I was able to beat him!
The food was amazing. The place was really clean and well kept. I loved how intimate it was - it probably has twenty rooms max so felt quaint and boutiquish. It was also right by the water so meals are eaten with a view of the water and you can chill all day on the sunbeds right in front of the hotel and in front of the ocean. Really beautiful
Pros:
-Huge villa, with nice porch and cute little plonge pool; and perfect view onto the beach
-Pongwe is THE most remote place in Zanzibar still, so book if you want total tranquility (but also lack of any kind of shop;)
-Nice bedrooms, with good airco
-Part of a consortium with another villa and a small restaurant.
The hotel is beautiful and tastefully decorated. The staff is friendly and attentive, and the food is excellent. The spa is also very nice with a good range of treatments. The beach area is nice (just be mindful that during low tide you need to walk if you want to swim). The overall atmosphere is very relaxing.
The best place we stayed in Zanzibar. The beach front location and space was amazing. It has a very friendly and relaxed feel.
The staff, however, make the place! they were so warm, engaging and we loved our evenings at the bar with the owners and barman chatting away.
It felt more than just a hotel.
million thanks to Petra, the most dedicated and helpful I’ve ever met !
Tulia is a perfect place to stay in their, I loved their pool and the water slides is brilliant! my kids was suggesting to stay in the hotel for good and was always asking to leave it !
Just one word, perfect.
staff was the best you can ask for.
place is beautiful with real Zanzibar vibes.
location was peaceful with very nice beaches.
rooms are clean and spacious.
food was delicious and pretty varied (except for breakfast).
Staff friendliness and the hospitality the managing director (Ali) provided. The food is excellent and good red wine. Pool is beautiful too. Good security. We had an excellent time and recommend this hotel.
The cottage rooms are exceptionally good value for Zanzibar - they are spacious, right on the beach and incredibly private. The food is good and the beach is quiet without beach boys which is a huge plus.
Everything was amazing. We enjoyed our time with the warm welcome from the staff including the hotel general manager..
The surprises prepared by the hotel regarding our anniversary was appreciated..
