Old style Manor type building in a quiet position, 15 minutes walk downhill to the beautiful town of Whitehaven/harbour. The hotel staff are very pleasant and helpful and will call you a taxi if required. There are many bars and restaurants in this small town and several shops. Beautiful drive from M6 motorway, around half an hour. Also close to the towns of Workington and Penrith, both very different and nice to explore. There is also a free car park at this hotel.
Boasting a bar, Georgian House Hotel is set in Whitehaven in the Cumbria region, 29 km from Wasdale and 29 km from Muncaster Castle.

Lovely property in the back streets of Whitehaven, from the minute we walked in everyone and everything was perfect, the room was lovely the bar area and restaurant was also lovely.
The staff were like a well oiled military machine wearing their earphones whilst moving around. Nothing was any trouble for them.

We stayed in Whitehaven to attend the Whitehaven Rugby league game so the Mansion was in a perfect position. |We also visited St Bees, Ravenglass and the Whitehaven harbourside so an excellent location. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The fact I was able to have a swim each day in the pool was an added bonus

Interesting to discover coastal walks , a bit disappointed that Beacon museum charge for admission ! Surely locals / visitors / tourists should be encouraged to see and learn about the area in general without being hit with a charge . Public can eat in Moresby Hall and are great value for money !

Beautiful harbour. Beacon museum very interesting.
Beautiful harbour. Beacon museum very interesting. Easy access by road to places of interest with fantastic mountain scenery, valleys and lakes.Take a boat trip on Lake Windermere, return journey only £17. Avoid driving up to Surprise View - it's not for the faint hearted or inexperienced driver, especially if you have an approaching vehicle, with inches to pass and a long drop!! Ravenglass 15 gauge steam train ride not worth the money as not much to look at.

Places to eat are plentiful and excellent cooking, the Beacon museum definitely worth a visit. Parking plentiful but some can be expensive. Roads take a bit of getting acquainted with as streets are a bit twisty turny and some are one way so best to drive with care and know where you going, Whitehaven is a lovely town with plenty to do and see with an amazing amount of history. Definitely worth a visit, but our long weekend not long enough

Whitehaven is a lovely Georgian and Victorian coastal town with views across the Solway Firth to Scotland, and across the Irish Sea to the Isle of Man. Although, in common with many provincial towns after Covid, there are quite a lot of empty shops, there are still plenty of nice cafes and coffee bars around the town, and it has two large supermarkets and a leisure centre. The harbour is lovely, and even has its own resident seal right now (June 2023) - Stella. It's easy to get into the heart of the Lake District on the good main roads, so if you fancy a stay in a friendly coastal town away from the main tourist rip-off spots, I'd recommend it. And try the Jefferson's Rum Story on Lowther street, really worth a visit!

The harbour area is lovely.
The harbour area is lovely. There is a real sense of faded grandeur about Whitehaven: it's easy to imagine what it must have been like in its Georgian heyday.
Our first time in the area: if it wasn't so far from home, we'd be back. St James' church is a gem, with lovely people who were welcoming and happy to chat.
You need to be mobile and ready to walk up hills in Whitehaven. A nice place in sunny weather.

Whitehaven is a historic town with port.
Whitehaven is a historic town with port. We were wary of potential crime and evidence was around (triple padlocks, grills ,police patrols and many pubs etc but nearly everyone we engaged with were jolly and friendly . The Tivoli is set in the heart of an historic road that has been revamped but getting a bit tatty (as many towns) over time. Really nice heritage , sports and cultural areas and harbour with some good town/coastal walks and sea air. Overall positive vibes from our stay.
Bobs Place is a great place to stay if your are exploring the north lakes area. We spent a great Easter break there moving between Whitehaven and St Bees.
The accomodation was well appointed and we lacked nothing to make the stay homely. Nice and clean and Bob was very welcoming and even provided fresh milk alongside the usual tea and coffee tray.
I presume Mrs Bob also left us some knitted Easter chicks with creme eggs, lovely touch.
Will definitely book again
I got a seaview room, and from the moment we arrived the hosts were very friendly and inviting. It was like a hotel room instead of a regular B@B with access to everything whenever we liked. The garden was really lovely and I could have sat out there all day. There is a booklet with places to eat/drink that are close as well as a book with places to visit around the local area. Breakfast was cooked to perfection as well with plenty of options to choose from.
It is a basic hotel, former student residential place, nice sitting area in the garden (basic). The bed was perfect for me, firm. Surprised that cleaner comes in the morning to make the bed and change the bins. The staff that I encountered were lovely. Not bad location if you are looking for a stop over that's cheap. Whitehaven harbor is basic but nice and quiet, about 30-40 min drive to Keswick.
Good breakfast choice and hot when arrived. Staff attentive at breakfast and quick service. Hosts very knowledgeable of local area and places to eat in the evening. Great location for visiting Whitehaven and surrounding area. Plenty of private parking. We had the room at the top with the four poster bed, worth the extra money for the large room and the very comfortable bed.
Would stay again.
The Chase Hotel is very well managed. Additional towels given to us promptly. Towels changed every day. Excellent breakfast. Ample and adequate parking. Just a 12 minute walk to the selection of restaurants down at the harbour. Convenient for the England Coast Path, and the Coast-to-Coast as well.
I love that it was dog friendly, first time taking my dog away with us who was is only 9 months and it was made much easier with the staff at the hotel helping us when we needed.
The room and grounds are lovely lots of walks and places to relax, we will definitely coming back again soon!
My room was exceptional, clean, cosy and lots of choice at breakfast. It is located right by the train station and the town centre. As a young female travelling on my own, Brian and Claire made me feel very welcome to the area. I couldn’t recommend Lismore House enough.
So for bed and breakfast you need a comfortable bed that is set away from noisy traffic, a wholesome breakfast so you dont need lunch and pleasant, informative, respectful and good humored staff......TICK, TICK, TICK. Would definitely go back when next in the area
Extremely friendly staff, very accomodating and made to feel very welcome. The hotel was very warm and the bar area a nice place to relax and play cards as a family. Very welcoming with our dog as well. This is a great spot to base for the coast and Lake District.
Lovely clean, comfortable hotel. Nice and quiet. Warm welcome, very pleasant, friendly host who cooked tasty breakfasts. Three well behaved and friendly dogs to greet us. Short walk from Corkickle station, and pleasant downhill walk into Whitehaven.
Great location, just a short walk into Whitehaven; Kathy is a fantastic host and serves a very good breakfast. Room was fine, just took a while to master the shower. All in all a very pleasant stay.
Location is excellent. Quality of the shared kitchen, dining area and living room is very high. Ensuite room on top floor was perfect. This is amazing value for money
