The weather was so bad that I don't think we saw the best of the town.
However the front is very clean and there are a few shops in the town centre plus a cinema and a concert hall.
It is a good place to use as a base to visit other places and the bus service is very good if you don't have a car.

I was disappointed there wasn’t a tourist information office but the library staff were very helpful as was the guest house owner.
I enjoyed visiting the landmarks and just walking along the coast. The Jam Jar cinema was also worth a visit.

Whitley Bay is an up and coming town with some lovely shops.
Whitley Bay is an up and coming town with some lovely shops. It also has easy access to Newcastle and the surrounding area by road and by Metro. In the summer Whitley Bay is busy but in the winter it is much quieter.
I have visited this town many times while visiting my daughter. On this occasion my visit was not a holiday; I was helping my daughter to move house.
Great location overlooking the seafront and the bay. A very easy stroll into town and a pleasant walk to Cullercoats and Tynemouth. The friendly staff at the restaurant downstairs allowed us to use their car parking spaces to unload and load the luggage and then we always managed to find a parking space in the streets behind the property. Parking was free with the permit provided. Raymond the host was very helpful with any queries being answered by return. All in all, very good value for money and we would definitely stay there again.
Quite simply the best guest house I've ever stayed in. The whole property is spotlessly clean and Paul and Lee go the extra mile to ensure you enjoy your stay. Always ready to impart their brilliant local knowledge - they are tremendous ambassadors for Whitley Bay and indeed the North East. Breakfast was cooked to order and was fantastic on each of our three mornings as we worked our way through a varied menu. If you're planning a trip to Whitley Bay this property should be your first choice. Thanks for a wonderful visit.
The house is gorgeous and feels like a home from home with everything provided that you could possibly need. The house is beautifully decorated and styled and makes you feel like you are living in luxury. The communication with the owners was excellent and their restaurant and activity tips were great. The location is perfect for the beach and for the town centre - lots of lovely independent shops including a fabulous bookshop called The Bound. 5 stars, 100% recommend!
South Parade where the hotel is situated is a stone throw from the beach and front. The rooms were lovely, clean and light and airy. Loved the decor. The staff who checked us in were very helpful and clear. Once we had booked and we had completed our side of the check in we had all our details within about 5minutes. Loads of shops at the top end of the street and places to eat. Will definitely be returning.
Beautiful place, ideally located for the wedding venue we were attending. We received a lovely greeting from Michael. The room was very spacious and immaculately clean. Modern bathroom and a very comfortable bed.
Breakfast was delicious. Plenty of choice and freshly cooked. The whole hotel was spotless. Great communication right from the day I booked and on the day. I would definitely look to stay here again.
Whitley bay is gorgeous and The Metropolitan is so close to the beach and lots of bars and restaurants but in a quiet street with parking.
Ordering breakfast was easy and lots of choice for something a bit more special. It was perfectly cooked and beautifully presented with friendly, helpful service.
I couldn’t fault anything if I wanted to. It is the best place I’ve ever stopped in in the North East.
The whole 3 days we enjoyed, it was basic close to shops amenities but did us for sleeping as we like to be out and about exploring during the day staff was nice bedrooms clean and tidy reasonably sized comfortable we didn't do breakfast as we decided to eat out so couldn't mention anything on the breakfasts would def stay again if we visit Whitley bay again maybe try breakfast :)
Excellent location in a very peaceful country environment but so quick to get to Newcastle, Whitley Bay etc. Also perfect for staying a night before sailing from Port of Tyne. Very warm welcome from the charming owner (and helpful with directions!). Very nice room. Very clean. Good value for solo traveller but excellent value for two or three occupants.
All good. Friendly staff on arrival and at breakfast. Large, comfortable single room. Excellent breakfast. Hotel is very well located in the heart of Whitley Bay on the seafront. My purpose was to watch Whitley Bay FC and Whitley Warriors - the walk from the hotel was around 15 minutes. I would be very keen to stay here again.
The location of this Hotel is great, right on the front. The other reason we picked this hotel, was because it is dog friendly. The room itself was quite spaciousand was very clean, a tray of tea and coffee provided.
It looks like this hotel has recently had some updating and it’s good.
My room was nice and comfortable and the breakfast was nice and fresh.
Great location just off the promenade.
Very clean bathroom, with plenty of hot water. Room had a fabulous view. Very centrally located. Good car parking near. Great breakfast served by a very lovely lady.
Very central, staff were friendly and room spacious, comfortable and clean.
Loved the cafe next door and the pub downstairs. Enjoyed our stay in Whitley Bay.
