Spreading for hundreds of kilometres from the mouth of the Oslofjord, Oslo is the largest city by area in Europe and is liberally covered in pristine forests rising up into the outlying hills. South of the unassuming city hall lies a vibrant waterfront known as Aker Brygge, which in summer is full of bustling outdoor restaurants and bars.
For the prettiest buildings head to affluent inner-city suburbs of Frogner and Fagerborg, or admire the traditional Scandinavian wooden houses of Bygdøy and Holmenkollen. Monumental buildings include the Royal Palace which runs daily tours and the Akershus Festning, which is a medieval castle that also served as a military base and provides impressive views of the Oslofjord. Oslo City Hall, or rådhus, offers even more distinctive architecture and it is the location of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony.
Nature is never far away in Oslo which is ringed by an archipelago of islands which are extremely popular in summer. Hiking, kayaking and sailing are all easily achievable within the city limits. Just as popular, are the many museums. The national Museum houses Edvard Munch’s famous painting The Scream and Viking Ship Museum containing long-lost relics from Norway’s Viking past.
From downtown Sentrum to the Oslo Airport Gardermoen to the stunning statues in Frogner Park, Booking.com has over 80 hotels and other accommodations available.
Not the cleanest city in the world, but fine. People are not talkative and they are rather reserved, but they are trying to be helpful when needed. A lot of beautiful places to go, including parks, other 'nature' centres, restaurants. Great public transportation. People speak great English. Mind that everything is rather expensive. I would most certainly visit again.

Oslo is where you stay to go other places in Norway.
Oslo is where you stay to go other places in Norway. A few sights were closed, the rest were so-so. Lot of people watching in the area of Oslo Central station. Locals get out and enjoy a nice day. Pay the difference and stay near the central station, lot easier to get around, lot to do, most things walkable.

What a great city! I hope to come back again someday. Lovely people, lots of great walking areas. Excellent infrastructure for travellers (easy train transport from the airport to downtown); the tram was easy to take as a foreigner. Food was delicious everywhere we went. We were especially impressed with the Comfort Hotel Børsparken.

The only thing we did not like was the high standard of living which is good for norwegian but not good for a traveller from Central Europe :D
There are many fantastic museum which are worth to visit.
Excellent hotel with stunning views over the fjord and city centre (we stayed on the 19th floor). Flybuss stops directly outside which was fantastic as we needed to catch the 4.10am and have three teenagers! Great breakfast (with generous amounts of smoked salmon), lovely pool and sauna and large comfortable room. Oh and also praise for having 5 lightning fast lifts as I've stayed at many a hotel that feels that 2 is enough! Would definitely come back.
Convinient place to stay at. Very central in Oslo within walking distance for major attractions (Akers brygge, Tjuvholmen, National Opera, MUNCH). Rooms at the small size, but for a 3 star hotel very good. The hotel in itself has an interesting 100 yrs+ history built by young farmers union. Most of Norway's famous writers, painters and actor have stayed at the hotel, and the hotel owns 10% of the nearby theater. Ask the staff for its history.
The room was small, but efficient. It's in a great location, but still quiet. I appreciated that there was a fan already in the room, since it was a little warmer than usual. The breakfast was WONDERFUL and I loved having a Nespresso in my room
I was in Oslo twice on my trip to Norway, and the second time I booked another hotel and I wish I had booked Astoria again.
Thon has the BEST staff!
Actually it’s an ordinary hotel with cons snd pros, but sometimes the most important thing is how you feel while you stay at a hotel. We felt very happy during our stay in Thon Hotel. Very cute lobby, amazing staff and special mention to breakfast. You expect this quality only in 5 star hotels maybe. A very charming breakfast room and amazing food with a wide variety
It's just right for staying in Oslo while visiting my son and his partner. Great value for money and very comfortable. It's not a 5 star hotel but for what it is it's excellent.
Added to this, the location is ideal with a tram stop right outside the hotel. Very convenient to access most areas in Oslo
Great breakfast, free sauna, comfy bed, nice view on the surrounding forest. We loved everything! Also, amazing value for money, considering it's Norway. You can easily reach the hotel with the T1 metro from the city center. The next day we walked to the center - it's long but there's a lot to see!
Absolutely loved the room, it was huge, super comfy bed, very nice Shower room, pretty much a 5 star hotel bedroom.
We loved the roof top with the great view and cocktails and the breakfast buffet was excellent. The staff a super friendly and eager to assist you.
Great location facing a park on Karl Johan Gate. In two weeks and six hotels, this was by far the best breakfast buffet that we had in Norway. Rooms were small but not unusually so for an old building in a large city. Rooms were modern and very clean.
Really great staff and a good location. Room was comfortable. The best breakfast I’ve ever had in any hotel in Europe! So much variety and a very wonderful staff! And the only hotel on our trip to Norway that offered decaf coffee in the lobby!
Location excellent, safety measures very good the automated self check-in was a very good idea, others can emulate. room size is too small compared to the tariff, got much bigger room at Norway Trondheim.
We selected as close to train station and we were doing "Norway on the Nutshell". It is 5 minute walk. But what I loved was atmosphere and staff very friendly and supportive. Excellent breakfast.
Modern and comfortable hotel, very good location in Oslo city centre, great value for money. The breakfast was excellent as well. Most of the rooms are small, but comfortable.
Staff was extremely helpful when my debit card didn't work. Breakfast was best I had in Norway. Close to museums and restaurants. Id definitely recommend and stay there again!
Breakfast was absolutely amazing! Huge variety, well prepared and full of delicacies you don't usually find at breakfast buffets, not even in 5 star hotels!
